We should've grabbed the CAR-816 deal by the balls and gotten the Mk 318/M855A1 manufactured in a JV through SSS, but apparantly we want to be the only ones looking at 7.62x39 platforms as the future.
If we would have gone ahead with the deal we would have received 94'500 of them by now. May be a follow on order too would have been under process.
94500 (CAR) + 72,400 (SIG) = 1,66,900 is big number of modern guns.

If this is the carbine we chose, its a good thing the deal got cancelled. With such a short barrel 5.56 would lose its fragmentation capability and we would add to the 5.56 goes through a body myth again. Soldiers would have again complained about it.

The 93k 5.56*45mm carbine old RFI was originally intended for Fast track off the shelf purchase from abroad, similar to Sig-716. There was to be a follow on RFI for another 3.6L carbine, in which OFB would also be permitted to compete.

The new RFI allows OFB to compete. This new RFI QRs seems to be tailor made for the Sig-550 chap carbine from ARDE. Interestingly, ARDE is not going ahead with OFB as its production partner, and has invited private sector companies to bid for its production.

Are you taking about ARDE CQB one? The one showed alongside with JVPC by Kalyani Defense?

if arde carbine is used and manufactured by kalyani, might be actually be reliable ,but arde ar 15 carbine might suit it or a revamped arde carbine will be nice

Modern 5.56 rounds fragment just fine out of 14.5"ish barrel, It would be a differenr case if we're going around 9", the mk 318 SOST is in fact open tipped. Also fragmentation alone is not the way a rifle caliber inflicts tissue damage. The temporal cavity tear that comes from excessive energy transfer beyond what the body can handle leads to far greater tissue damage, this is why pistol caliber rounds optimally advocate for torso shots for reliable results: Its's due to their lackluster kinetic energy that falls within the threshold of elasticity of human tissue. They simply don't have oomph to transfer enough energy for the tissue to tear from it.

Either but a AR15 buffer tube in the back or put pic rails in the back of the receiver and it could take variety of stock available on the market.
Army did not specify m-lok or free floated handguard or adjustable stocks, so why would they bother with the additional cost?
