No they had nothing to do with Gothic Serpent if that's what you mean. They were part of the UN contingent which was led for a brief time by US forces so MARCOS interacted with US forces for liason and stuff.

AFAIK They provided Sniper Overwatch in the harbor for the ships and security for senior officers etc.
Yes, as part of the UN peacekeeping force. All branches were involved - Army, Navy, IAF. But not many people know that Indian troops also took casualties in Somalia, 12 if I am not wrong. Also, after few years Marcos was classified into Marcos(Advanced) and Marcos(General Duty). Later at some point it was discontinued though. Don't know how the formation is nowadays.
The members of the early batches of IMSF were real badasses, most of them were part of the Project Sunray(Special Group).

Dude is a certified badass. He rescued two kids from a burning hut and then physically brought down the burning hut with his bare hands to contain the fire. Was awarded Shaurya Chakra.

Here is his Shaurya Chakra citation:
Yes, I have talked to so many SFs veterans from Para SF and Marcos. Some of them are quite inspirational. Bt there something different about PO Thapa. He is a professional sailor and truly an unconventional guy, 5 mins with him & you'll come back pumped up. He has that go-getter mindset. And even though he is not an officer, he's a natural leader, his knowledge and expertise on most subjects are vast. Must be because he's someone who was always very clear about what he wanted and joined the navy out of passion not by destiny or accident. He sets the bar too high for other Indian NCOs and JCOs. After leaving the navy, he made a good career in the commercial cruise industry as well. Also, he has helped many ex-Marcos to enter the private maritime security and the commercial shipping industry.

Feeling second hand embarrassment😬.
What about NSG in particular?
I have faith that they will be trained (within their resources) to accomplish the task at hand. -SAG/SRG/ Mahilla whatever. Each one serves a different purposes and they will fullfill the purpose. Ethos goes a long way in the NSG.

Debate on are they needed should be in NSG etc is a seperate topic
