Why? With enough training and lessons it can be drilled into units. So why not state police SWAT units. Response with police SWAT units will be quicker, swift and more localized.

We need to get out of the elitist mindset. If localized units can do the job, then nothing like it.
"""""If""""". Force One can't deal with hijacking. No state police unit can. And MARCOS and Para arebt trained for such a situation either AFAIK. SFF is a light infantry unit. So out of question. No way SG gets the green light if the hijacking is within India. So that leaves NSG. Who exist for such a situation. Though it won't come to that. No hijackers will be stupid enough to have the plane land in India. So that leaves SG. But we all know the story of IC814. Make what you will of it.

Please read my post properly, I said if NSG can’t get there on time.
That's not an option is it?

Anyway, hijacking is done to coerce certain demands from the ruling dispensation.. that takes time.. time which will be used to dispatch NSG and brief them for a takeover of the aircraft if needed.

As things stand, NSG is the equipped and trained unit we have for this job.

And even nsg is sanctioned for 5 states so now they can easily reach anywhere

Even during IC 814 the plan was to land SG first to kill all the taliban surrounding the aircraft and secure the area then NSG going in to kill the terrorists but according to if they tried that there is a large chance of it going south

Lol SG has no such ability to get out of a plane and kill 300+ Taliban and secure the Area. You would need to first covertly insert a Battalion Sized force + Provide them Air cover then pray to hell that a stray RPG doesn't take out the NSG plane as well as 814.

Unless ofcourse you have Chuck Norris.

Dubai / Amritsar were our only shots.

Even french gign carried out their raid when the air france plane landed in merseilles in france .assaulting a plane full of passengers is an extreme level operation and only NSG has that on mandate no state swat units can do it

When an aircraft is hijacked mid air over India and does land at the nearest airport, who’s job is it to board or storm the plane if its necessary if NSG can’t get there on time. Does it go to CISF QRTs or State police SWATs?
For reference of that kind of situation and response I’m talking about here’s a video.
Cuz IMO, CISF QRTs the way they’re equipped they look like they are there to respond to threats on the ground based facilities only(As they carry AKs, INSAS Excalibur or folding stock variant and MP5s, IMO an AK and INSAS may not be suitable for use on an aircraft) and I don’t know whether state police SWAT members get training for this purpose.
NSG

the 52 SAG exists almost entirely for this purpose and is co-deployed with aviation assets so they can be anywhere in India within a 3-4 hour flight, if the situation requires a more immediate response then local units will have to create a plan. As it stands CISF QRT only exists to create an outer cordon and await NSG as far as airside ops go, they are more focused on CQB on the terminal side.

52 SAG has their main force at Delhi's IGI airport so my assumption is that IGI is designated the preferred airport to send any hijacked aircraft to and then NSG will be on scene almost immediately but if you're a hijacker you'd be incredibly foolish to chose to land at a capital city.

There are a few state QRT/ERT units that have trained for something like this, I guess as a contingency for when NSG cannot arrive in time.

That said CISF QRT needs to be re-thought, they should be trained and equipped to a level where they can board a plane and take out a hijacker in an emergency situation. As it stands they are basically just given a BPJ and declared a 'commando'. There is a QRT at every major airport in India and they will be the first responders to any such crisis and should be equipped accordingly, NSG cannot be everywhere at all times.
  1. Para SF
  2. MARCOS
  3. Special Group
  4. Special Frontier Force
  5. Force One has been trained in hostage rescue and counter terrorism (don't know about other SWAT units).
I'm actually laughing, not one individual in any of the units in the list above will have the required training or equipment to conduct an airplane intervention (force one are probably the only ones to have done some dry runs but their capacity is too limited to even seriously consider it).

52 SAG's entire organisation is orientated around aviation

For something as relatively simple as getting onboard a plane that 20-30ft in the air only NSG has the means.

Some units outside of NSG may have done some dry runs once for boarding an airliner but it's something 52 SAG does on a regular basis all over India from all Indian airlines. NSG is the only unit in India that is legally able to request any airline registered in India to give them an aircraft for transport or training purposes and obviously they are the only unit in India that has their own aircraft training simulator:

The fact that 300+ Taliban were guarding the plane were not known to Indian agencies. We had no aerial or ground level intelligence on IC-814. Only thing known was that the plane is in Kandhahar airport.

However when the rescue plane landed carrying the commandoes, the terrorists and NSA, the situation became clear. Hence the plan of attack on the IC-814 by commandoes were aborted on the spot.

It was on every TV even before the Indian Authorities were scrambling to fig out a response. We had active intel coming out of Afghanistan from our own sources. We had decent Humint in those days.

I am old enough to remember this entire episode like it was yesterday.

Btw you should research why the Plane was not immobalized in Amritsar and why the NSG missed them.

Could the senior members and professional elaborate more on the hijacking and why we failed to finish it off in India itself and also discuss if we had any viable alternatives instead of trading hostages for high value prisoners, for the ones who don’t know much about the incident?

A RAW officer later disclosed that the plane was allowed to leave Amritsar because onboard was a relative of the secratary to ABV.

Tubular assaults are the hardest of all HR situations, the guys who do it professionally have their own aircraft/mock ups to train on. etc etc
