@AVINASH4061, in your experience, has the 5.56mm caliber ever been inadequate? On that note, what do you think about the IA trying to make the switch to 7.62*39mm with the AK-"203"?

Thanks.
5.56 definitely has better penetration and ballistic performance over longer ranges. But, what a combatant expects is to put his adversary down and render him unfit to fight with minimum shots being fired. 5.56 penetrates through the body, the wound created thus is less severe, body is high on adrenaline in these times. Therefore many a time the guy being hit esacpes, running for a few hundred metres in the hills and mountains. 7.62 that ways punches real bad, the wound ballistics is severe and the effect immediate. However I am not sure about the recoil management in the new platforms like the 203s. The 103 are only slightly better when compared to the AK 47.

There is a birdcage style flash hider on the 203, similar to the Dragunov. So the recoil impulse should be less than any other 7.62 AK. But this is speaking in relative terms, as it is going to be firing the 7.62 cartridge, so there will be quite a kick.

Also, would 5.56mm with heavier projectile solve a few of the abovementioned problems? 77gr or even 90gr for example.

And where did you guys source 5.56mm ammo from?

The problem with many folks is that you people form opinion based on games! Or the theory that you read in books. How many times have you fired Dragunov? What do you know about ammunition of different grains?? It seems fancy to read with all these jargons, but don't pitch the questions at a level which is far beyond pragmatic comprehension. Keep it simple, keep it stupid for it to be understood and executed.
No offence

Well, you are right about the games and books part. Simple and stupid. Understood.

Compile 5 important questions and place it here I will post sir answers in this thread
1. Do we have an atmosphere where our small arms tactics/drills evolve from time to time.
2. What sort of a sniper culture do we have in the SF.
3. How good/bad are our night fighting capabilities.
4. Many on this forum have said that there is a need to separate the PARA SF from the Parachute Regiment in order to ensure better usage of our SF. What are his views on this.
5. 9 Para SF has trained with other countries SF who have better equipment than us, so after so many exercises why are there minimal upgrades, is it the senior leadership which is mainly from the infantry or is it the MOD babus/politicians or there is a resistance to change from the force itself.
6. His choice of weapon (assault rifle).
7. And lastly if he can share any experience.

@AVINASH4061 sir what are your views on the first 4 points
