You can't expect entrepreneurship from a state-run company of any kind. What's more, OFB is just a production agency, they have some in-house design capability for weapons, equipment & kit but it's all shit and 25 years out of date.

And the state-run R&D agencies have their own problems. Someone described their products (not just wrt tactical kit) as "made for scientists, by scientists". What that means is that unlike in Pvt companies, the design team, product-engineering team & end-user feedback isn't closely integrated in any state-run enterprise. In Pvt companies, this is done out of necessity to save money & streamline the business.

The result are products that are great on paper, cost a bomb to produce and are crappy to use.

And what's more, these agencies merely design products to meet whatever GSQR is furnished by IA - so if the Generals at Army HQ aren't up-to-date with what are the prevailing trends & solutions in the world of tactical equipment (most aren't, not just in India but anywhere), such GSQRs are never going to be up-to-date either.

Looks like some kind of minimalist model...I wonder if its just an adapter cable (for headset to interface with radio).

Standardize this stuff and you've got the basic SOF stuff covered. All we need then is an In-SOC with authorization to plan and operate cross-border for special recon, monitoring militant infilitration routes and picking them off, conducting raids and DA on local commanders and other HVTs, infiltrating their ranks as Kashmiris and becoming sleeper cells, picking off pakistani military liasons to these militants etc. We need to make special operations our primary tool to influence the region, the Ghatak can be the more direct combatants when needed and the army/RR should handle domestic issues. That being said AFSPA needs to be reworked a bit and the army needs to greatly focus on urban warfare training as a whole for jawans and officers alike. AFSPA has done more harm than good, and we don't need our conventional arm to get dirty that too at home. Leave that to the SF.
