Why do Garuds use Glock 26? They don't need to conceal a weapon so they might as well use Glock 17.. @Gessler
Glock 26 has been IAF's service-issue handgun for a while now. Most likely the preeminent requirement was for downed pilots to be able to conceal it if necessary. This is Abhinandan's G26 -

So while Garuds have gotten some specialist weapons ordered for the purpose (Tavors, Negevs), when it comes to the sidearm they may have been stuck with whatever was service-issued by IAF.

Are those Aimpoint MROs?
The one in front is Aimpoint Micro T-1 on a riser mount.

MRO is from Trijicon and looks substantially different. The guy behind him has the same old Zeiss RSA-S. The Micro T-1 was seen before on NSG MP-5s on a couple occasions. Here in combination with an Anglesight, but without the riser -

I'm glad for this change. The sight picture on the T-1 should be significant improvement on the RSA.

What is the purpose of Garud again?
They are just kind of there.
U would think an air force SF would have a purpose but what are they here for?

Weren't Garuds ineffective during the pathankot attack? NSG had to come in coz of that?

In a perfect world, an Air Force SOF, beyond the usual SF capabilities like freefalling, room intervention etc, would have duties along these lines:

Combat Air Control (way more complicated than relatively simple Forward air control which in US can be done by personnel from any service after JTAC qualification). CAC involves basically setting up a small scale ATC in forward locations.

Pararescue - mounting CSAR missions for the recovery of downed Air Force pilots (or other personnel) behind enemy lines.

But we're not in a perfect world so In our case, due to lack of JTAC-type cross-service courses, Garuds are only ones who the IAF would allow to carry out Forward air control by observing targets & calling in air strikes. A Garud FAC party would carry & set up equipment like this -

...and due to lack of tiered structure, Garuds are also the ones who carry out more menial roles like Force Protection for IAF assets & air fields.

FAC, CSAR, JTAC and high value asset force protection (QRT/CAT role)

They need more specialist support assets though to properly exploit their role.

Garuds weren't deployed in particularly large numbers in Pathankot to be fair meanwhile an entire 200+ man (including support personnel) NSG CTTF was flown in to undertake the majority of the terrorist elimination efforts.

Garuds were deployed to protect specific assets and nominally achieved this objective, it was a Garud unit that first engaged the terrorists (losing an operator in the process and gravely wounding another)

Para SF were also on the ground in Pathankot to protect strategic assets of the IAF but NSG was intentionally the lead unit. The only blemish on NSG's Pathankot record (IMO) is the needless loss of Lieutenant-Colonel Niranjan Kumar's life during bomb disposal. Other than that, Pathankot validated NSG's tactics and capabilities and it remains a disservice to them that they are so under-utilised.

Not being able to see the name of manufacturer, but there are pics of boots of similar design from different manufacturers. Even company logos are same. I see boots of this design everywhere including SOFs.

10 PARA SF procured these DE ACH on battalion level & some of them with rails & mounts. Airborne & SF started receiving similar helmets after 2016. But manufacturers of both are unknown to me because full cuts designs are almost same.

Brand new TAVORs & no modifications here. Numbers unknown to me.

Whatever is going on at 26 SCG they are getting it right. So fascinating to see the hubs seeing such disparities in their equipment thanks to the free(er) hand given to Hubs to purchase their own equipment directly and not go via NSG HQ.

26 SCG even seems to have a higher standard of equipment than the CTTF in Delhi which is a remarkable change from when the hubs were basically given the hand-me-down equipment from CTTF/Manesar.

+ in almost ever 26 SCG image lately the operators are wearing those green scarves, I think it's something they have picked up from PARA (SF), doesn't really fit with a CT unit especially given the colour.

Keffiyehs. I've never figured out what they were for. Everyone deployed on COIN operations throughout the world wears one. RR, Green Berets in Syria and AF, etc. have all been seen with them..

Just asking, say a soldier is commissioned in an infantry battalion and after 2 years of service undergoes the process and becomes a Para SF. So after serving for, say 12 years in the SF can he return to his parent unit? If yes which beret and shoulder tabs would he wear, the maroon and para or the ones which infantry wear?
