You guys are being unnecessarily harsh.
CivCas is part and parcel of operating in counter-insurgency.
They're nearly unavoidable.

Expect more such cases if insurgent activity increases.
Indian Army is doing the right thing by being up front and apologizing. Many would just grab the local seized inventory from the nearby police thana, bribe the officer there and plant the guns on the dead.

Unlike in Kashmir, NE has hunters who carry lil shitty rusty guns which, while only good for small game, give off a silhouette of an armed man.
The PID pucker factor goes through the roof because in Kashmir, you can pretty much be sure that any armed man who hasn't communicated his intent beforehand to the local authority responsible (JKP members/SOF in civvies) is a terrorist.
Not so black and white in NE.

Again, regrettable as it is, move on. No one hits civilians just to hit civilians.

Would definitely be preferable if they increase ISR assets but then again, drones won't penetrate the thick tree umbrella of NE.
There's probably some revision going on in SOP as we speak.

Regarding the incident in the NE

it’s obviously bad and should not be happening BUT one cannot really avoid such instances in an armed conflict and when you add the additional complexity of nighttime and men walking around armed (for legitimate reasons) it’s a bad cocktail.

I hope SOPs are revised if they can be but full marks for the SF officer being open and accountable, that is legitimate leadership on display and kudos to the IA and the SF battalions for fostering such responsible men. Also heartening to see that these guys (armed forces) do not see the locals as the enemy (can often easily happen in a COIN mission)

also can’t rule out the enemy using such ambiguous situations for their own subversive reasons.

I hope a full investigation takes place, regardless of AFSPA soldiers need to be accountable for every round that exits Their rifle and SFs even more so- they are entrusted with a higher level of freedom but that only means they must have a higher degree of accountability, they can’t be like the cowboys you see in Western units who descend into boodthirsty brutes and terrorise their enemy and local populace alike.

shitty situation all around and it’s unfortunate that these guys have to be put into such a situation and a complete reflection on political failures that have not been able to secure an end to this turmoil even 75 years after Indian independence. SFs should not be operating on their home soil day and night in these low level fights.

Can I ask a noob question here.

Received a 10 minutes long original video of the incident, they are special forces operating in the dead of night deep inside forest with no light at all still non of them were carrying any NVD / TI (helmet mounted or Rifle) with them.

Is it normal ?

Yup it is, helmet mounted night vision is something Para SF doesn’t even use in combat. But here some fanboys were insisting, “no they have the wurldz besht ekwipment with them”.

The officer himself admitted that "andhera Ho Gaya tha thoda" on the video itself. Ill-equipped is the term for this unfortunate incident, don't see how someone excuse this

well I don’t want to jump to conclusions but this is exactly where reality hits you straight in the face. I said a few pages back that you can delude yourself for as long as you like but reality has a habit of teaching you a lesson.

all the denials or grandiose comments about superior training/human capital and now silence

This is where the rubber meets the road- social media bragging about having the best SF is only good until you actually need to do something.

everyone labelled the ‘Gucci gang’ were claiming hair this- a lack of proper equipment effects your training and capabilities and makes you an inferior force but we’re dismissed or name Called

Even now some will defend the indefensible and somehow claim PARA SF can make do with less

SOF in the US have bad night vision training since the early 1990

NONE of the PARA SF seen in the incident even have NVG mounts on their ACH

the vipers or ACH+MACS are just for demonstrations. EVERY SINGLE TIME you see PARA SF in the real world on operations they are in a sorry state, actual African militia levels

Dude para sf does not need night vision! Its for those bisleri soldiers🙄. Para sf lives on a diet of 90% carrots for months, it leads to them having better night vision than some cats.

The state of these ‘special forces’ is as terrible as this incident
having some of the most subpar equipment then putting them in this situation is atrocious. Everyone in the chain of command from the COAS to the battalion CO for the last 15 years should be criminally charged for this

sadly if someone is punished for this incident it’ll be a lowly officer on the ground whose remit doesn’t extend beyond the ground level
