Apart from special forces regiment, India also lacks proper airborne regiment. We only have 50th independent para brigade ( army HQ reserve) and few other para(airborne) battalions.
IMHO our airborne regiment should be developed into atleast 5-6 brigades, each with infantry, 122 mm mbrl, 105mm towed artillery, manpads, as well as 105mm light tanks and ifv( which can be refubrished bmp2s, when army moves to ficv) and lastly transport aircrafts and helicopters . Our goal should be to create a rapid deployment force(ability to deploy in 72 hours), similar to airborne regiments of Russia or China. This will hold territory when dropped behind enemy lines and link up with advancing convention forces.
Based on the Russian model? Not needed imo.. 2-3 more will be sufficient.

5-6 brigades is a huge ask. For starters, we need to create 3 Para brigades. 50th Para Brigade is already there. We can re-raise 77th Para Brigade and a third new para brigade. These three brigades along with President's Bodyguard and a para artillery brigade can be used to re-raise the 44th Airborne Division.

For this, we'll need to raise four more Para Airborne Battalions and one more Para Artillery Regiment. Everything else is already there. But with the current manpower restraints, even this is a tough thing to achieve.
I agree that this is difficult to acheive with current budget allocations. Even the 17 Mountain Corp which was raised is not fully equipped. A cost effective option would be converting some existing Infantry and Arty units into air-borne role. Existing old IFGs, and old BMP platforms can be refurbished (with CAGE armor and APS) and assigned to them.

Everyone nowadays is talking about SF re-organization and separation of Para SF battalions into a separate regiment, creation of AFSOD, reorganizing existing corps into combined arms type IBG etc..

However, I don't find much mention of developement of conventional airborne and heli-borne capabilities. They played a vital role during the 1986-87 standoff in Arunachal with China. They are a very big force multiplier and a rapid reaction force.

SFs are stategic assests, but they have their own role, Airborne forces have their own role. While it is important to develop SF capabilities, Airborne forces should not be ignorned at their expense.

It’s not rocket science, most of this stuff has been basic issue for Western SF for about 20 years now and is now issued to their regulars.

How the Indian military officers can consider themselves amongst the most professional in the world and still have their most elite units looking like rag tag militiamen is a puzzle I’ll never get. You’ll be hard pressed to find a SF unit on the face of the planet *worse* equipped than Indian SF units in 2021

Entire 20+ year military careers have been commenced and ended without much changing on the ground. You’d actually have to try to be this incompetent. I don’t know how it’s possible to even source some of the junk that Indian SFs still get issued, the suppliers have surely long since discontinued it.

Weapon is on safety and they are special forces they now better how to hold weapon
U know their confidence firing drills
Sorry being SF means understanding the importannce of muzzle discipline whether there is a magazine in or not. Safety on or not. It's supposed to be second nature like breathing .

Hell I know enough civilians in the states / Canada who have guns at home and start teaching their kids the same since they are 7-8 years old. Nobody plans an accidental discharge
