Doesn't this make it an easier target to shoot down?
How is it different from our operators latching on to wires under a Helo

If anything this is more "comfy" for lack of a better word

Shouldnโ€™t these duties be the job of VBSS teams? You donโ€™t see the US Navy sending SEALs onboard everyday for VBSS.
Fleet VBSS teams are not trained or prepared for high intensity hostile boarding missions, they are there to go up against smugglers and the like who are unlikely to be armed with anything, the gulf of Aden is a very different beast and the Somali pirates are often heavily armed with AKs, RPGs and PKMs

Most of the navies operating in that area have their naval SOFs embarked for the high-risk ops, a few years back ROK SEALS onboard a frigate took down a vessel that had been taken over by pirates

This is what a USN VBSS instructor has to say about it

@rkhanna @COLDHEARTED AVIATOR @abingdonboy

I've always wondered this...are they really ITBP personnel guarding the diplomatic buildings? Or just a cover for SG guys?

What expertise does ITBP have in diplomatic security? It's not even their mission (far as I know anyway) and the country in question is not even near the India-Tibet border which is their mandate.
Someone has to provide armed security for the at-risk Indian missions in the world, india doesnโ€™t seem to have an official force charged with it so itโ€™s done more of an ad-hoc basis, Afghan missions get ITBP personnel and Iraqi get CRPF (not CoBRAs but a hand picked contingent)

CRPF should probably be tasked to raise a dedicated sub-unit specifically for this task.

SG definitely arenโ€™t doing this job but it wouldnโ€™t surprise me if there are a few SG guys that go along with these contingents under the guise of ITBP/CRPF especially for the PSD role of the senior embassy staff.

Interesting...
NSG has the same system (sourced from France after interactions with GIGN)
The side of SG that is seen and spoken of in general media is the assault team designated for CI grid. Basically counter intelligence and counter insurgency operations.
The side which is not seen ... is not seen. And that is the truly Rambo stuff
I spoke to someone that actually knows about this sort of stuff and he said the that 90% of the work SG does is not on Indian soil.

Army Northern Command just had an RFI to buy HELMET MOUNTED PANORAMIC NIGHT VISION BINO
Where does it say anything about PARA (SF) here? This isnโ€™t a procurement by AFSOD or even IA HQ but northern command only

This is just as likely to be for Ghataks and some frontline troops than a SF unit.

now we can see the limitations of not going for a full fledged SOCOM,does AFSOD even have procurement powers? Havenโ€™t seen them float a single RFI to date

USSOCOM has an entire force modernisation program headed by senior officers, AFSOD is just an ad-hoc test and evaluation process and the respective service HQs arenโ€™t interested in modernisation of their own SOFs- far from it
