AFAIK That’s an IR Illuminator,The laser is visible and used to aim without looking in the sight while IR (infrared) lasers can be used with night vision devices, as the bulk of a head-mounted night vision device makes aiming with iron sights or a conventional optic difficult. These lasers cannot be seen by the naked eye and are only visible when utilizing night vision devices.

The merpo lasers are not as powerful as Steiner DBAL ones . thus have a shorter range
Also , the Mepro lacks an IR illuminator that is used to illuminate the target ( basically an IR flashlight) , it is desirable that the illuminator and the laser are tuned in thus they are using the Steiners as it has both the illuminator and the pointer .

These Mfs cost around 80k a piece , almost as much as the gun itself .

I don't think SF units come under Corps, SF units are under Army Commands with multiple teams attached to different corps under the command, 17 Corp is in WB and 12SF is also in WB
