Exactly. Local Indian defense companies are slept on.
As @jai jaganath said- my point is effectively garbage in, garbage out. We can’t lay the blame for the kind of nonsense you see being issued at times on the producer as we have to remember that these guys build to a spec given to them by the user. So if it’s accepted into service that means the user is accepting the product is built to their spec

TASL and SMPP both have decent low profile PCs in their portfolios, the IA came along and told them they want garbage that belongs in the 80s.

No thoughts, just seems dumb to me

American funded and trained so ofc they had to have good kit still not an excuse to have bad gear for our guys
Indian units get plenty of training with the US (and others), in fact AFAIK India has the highest number of military exercises with US forces of any nation on earth. Somehow this exposure is not rubbing off

How come we never see them doing reload drills and rarely transitions to secondary? These videos always seem to last 20-30 seconds and are relatively straight forward flat range shooting
There are reloading drills but those are speed reloads, havent come across any Tactical Reload and there are 1 or 2 transitioning ones.

The keyword there was funded, if we start receiving funds from them we will have better gear too for example some time back when koreans army sf wasn't issued gear on par with their us counterpart (still dont for few equipment pieces), the guys under KATUSA get the standard gear of US counterpart which are better in opinion of former us and korean guys.

What’s the mechanism to allow extra funds for SF units without having a SOCOM? Right now you have to sorry state of not even battalion or company level purchases but team and individual scale updates.

SOCOM was the only way you were going to see real transformation to Indian SOF funding and capabilities. That has been nixed by the IA so it’s back to looking forward incremental updates

Someone has to force it down the throat from MOD, or wait to get lucky by having some one like General General B.C. Joshi

There’s a CDS now and theatrisation is the talk of the town again (not that it’s anywhere near a reality) so there’s always a chance

but it isn’t lost on me that the IA used the absence of a CDS to rapidly dilute and expand their ‘SF’ footprint.

+ again- very very few inside the top military/civilian leadership positions understands what SF are meant for so there’s not necessarily pressure to force this down anyone’s throat.

Well, i guess thats not the issue the application is, Kargil Review Committee did highlight the weakness but not all of them were implemented atleast properly.

not even that, I mean take this example. Before SOCOM was founded in 1987, Green Berets, SEALs used to get good amount of equipment which was good in those days. And remember before 1987, Green Berets had already done fantastic job in East Berlin, the idea of SOCOM didn't change that and it only stopped at the end of USSR a few yrs later. Similarly America had it's Grenada & Panama victory which kind of made them look good again so many years after Vietnam. Basic Common Sense is required to make a doctrine for your SF, employ them properly. And common sense is not a common practice.
