This is what happens when you are mindlessly hungry for small kills in Kashmir and forget to keep yourself updated.

I wish it was that simple.

US SFs(and so Western by extension as they eventually ape the US units) are where they are today because of lessons learned in GWOT, almost all the cutting edge gear they have is as a result of the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and to an extent Syria.


If PARA SF were focused so much on kills in Kashmir their equipment should have reflected it but like you said it was RR that were the first to introduce the ballistic shields into the valley.

I don't understand how after all these freaking years (decades!) PARA SF are STILL night blind and fighting in the daylight, surely they should have learned the value of surprise attacks in JK at nighttime and adjusted their tactics and equipment accordingly?


I wouldn't even count PARA SF as world-beating intervention or urban specialists, RR seem to be on their level at that.

There just isn't a very innovative culture within Indian SFs and they don't seem to be interested in evolving, they seem happy just to earn the Balidan and then walk around with the maroon beret.

In early 00s (GWOT) US SFs/SOFs had all the stuff we are considering cutting edge by Indian standards (integrated comns, 2-tube NVGs, lightweight helmets (with attachments) plus they had superior night-fighting capabilities to anything I've ever seen from any Indian SF- IR strobes, IR illuminators, IR chemlights etc etc

And this is the peculiar thing isn't it? Whilst RR and Ghatak units have made huge strides in the last 10 years, Indian SFs have somehow managed to stay still. Today you could have a RR trooper looking identical to PARA SF bar the Tavor

Something has gone deeply deeply wrong and I don't see how having faith in these clowns that created this situation to fix it makes sense




Even 7 PARA (Airborne) have Tavors now, I'm sure all the SF btns do now.



So what's impressive about this? A high cut with no integrated comns? A lightweight plate carrier without anything that would be useful in a fight, where's the med-kit? Where is the mission planning tablet? Where is the breaching equipment?etc etc

What is meant to make Special Forces special is their SPECIALIST training AND equipment


This is what Western SFs (and even infantry guys now) load outs look like:

In USSOCOM (and I'm sure this is the case now amongst most Western SFs), they have entire spaces dedicated for each individual operator and their personal gea, each guy literally has crates of specialist equipment, Indian SFs are lucky if they have more than 1 spare mag on Ops

contrary to popular belief AK rust far easier than AR type rifles.

But their action still functions. And it has more to do with the metallurgy of the rifle.

The night ops are using big torch lights and generators.

Para SF are not the best in Urban environment.

They are specialist of mountain and jungle warfare.

Patka protects you from Frontal and Backward hits from AK Rounds. A ballistic helmet has a bit limited full protection.

Protection against what?? 9mm to the front and shrapnel to the rest?? I wouldn't take my chances with a ballistic helmet if presented with the option of a Patka, maybe have mine customized to have the top section reinforced with several layers of ballistic nylon, that should take care of the shrapnel problem.

Oh and the Patka is rated NIJ Level III, so it ain't just the M47 rounds, it can stop M 80 NATO as well when fired from range of 50 meters and beyond.

Exactly, but when it comes to conventional warfare, we do need to factor in the artillery and other area weapons, so frag protection becomes necessary as well. The Patka, in it's present iteration, is completely inadequate in that regard. But for COIN ops, which seem to have become the defacto staple of our armed forces, a Patka just stomps a ballistic helmet to Oblivion.

I said most likely. Patka provides side protection too. Unless there is someone directly on top of you or you are bent over, it has you covered.

Yeah, saw that one. Begs the question as to why make the transition in the first place?? Why not simply modify the Patka design with top protection.
