In the Indian army new units are raised based on operational experiences, once the situation subsides. For example rashtriya rifles was raised after the insurgency broke out in the 90s, where initially bsf, crpf and IA infantry were facing the terrorist without much success due to their different operational roles. Similarly nsg was raised after operation bluestar and spg was raised after IG so assassination.
In a sense, we are reactive rather than proactive. Hence raising any new unit based on orbat of foreign armies is highly unlikely. We haven't even been able to fully operationalize the lone Mountain strike corps due to budget limitations.
Even the specialist troop ideas which originated in other countries are reactionary in nature as well, when you see their history. For example : U.S Airborne was borrowed from nazi german concept initially.

That's why I was wondering whether the officer was dawning a Patka at all. Here, check this out -

I distinctly remember reading somewhere that the Patkas were tested against 7.62X51 mm M80 NATO rounds at ~50 meters but since I couldn't find that page anymore, I decided to put that figure at 100 just to be on the safe side.

By the way, have you ever heard the name gunner Rishi Kumar?? He is a gunner of an artillery regiment.
I have heard of him. Survived an AK round to the head

Yeah.. one per company is the way to go
Yeah, the numbers should have been expanded to that level over the years. By the way, any idea how many companies a typical IA battalion is made of?? Is it 7 or 8 companies per bat??

4 to 5??!! Assuming 120-130 men per company, that would mean there are hardly 600 men in a battalion!! Aren't they supposed to be like 900-1000 men strong??
Battalion also contain support troops to complement it's strength as there are shortage in no of officer per required in indian army.

I dunno. It should be 4 companies, but the total numbers don't add up...

Yeah, if you think about it, a lot of the things do not add up. For example, a Platoon has 30 men, so 3 sections but they are also supposed to have two GPMG sections, which should put the number at 34 at the minimum. By the way, I think US Army platoons are a lot larger than ours.

No they're slightly smaller. 3 squads of 9 men each. 27..

Why don’t we have a separate Marine Corps?
Considering we only have a few army battalions converted for amphibious operations but no dedicated force.

In USA, Marine Corps is the 4th Branch of the US Military.

Because a Marine corp is expedentiary in nature and that is not in India's current objective list.

We dont have the money to equip a Marine Corps. How much money would it take to equip a brigade size strenght?

LHD/LPD?
Rotary ?
Artillery?
Aux ships?
Landing vehicle?
Amphib armour/IFV ?

Our Armed Forces have to be expeditionary otherwise we will keep seeing Chyena and Porkistan knocking our doors at the LoC and LAC.

China is making its Marine corps, plus Indian Navy already has plans to acquire 4 LHD/LPDs and a fresh tender will be released soon as old tender was scrapped due to delay. So Navy has rotary planned for them.

I am not saying it is easy or inexpensive but you’ll have to do it in the future considering rising chinese expansionism.
