Analysis on Kupwara Infiltration

Fresh Tribal Infiltration Into Kashmir

By B. Raman

"The heavily-forested Kupwara is not the sprawling urban Mumbai. Encounters within forests have nothing in common with encounters with terrorists entrenched inside urban buildings and going on a shooting spree in crowded public places in a big city such as Mumbai. But there are disconcerting similarities between what happened in Mumbai between November 26 and 29, 2008, and between what has happened during the last five days in the Kupwara area----- simultaneous, well-orchestrated attacks on multiple targets, whether static or moving army patrols, a skilful use of hand-held weapons and gadgets such as GPS systems, suicidal and not suicide terrorism, strike, stay and fight tactics instead of the hit and vanish tactics and an ability to keep the encounters with the security forces going for a long time in order to make an impact on the local population and the international community through dramatic media reports.

Extract from my article dated March 26, 2009, titled "From Mumbai To Kupwara In Jammu & Kashmir" available at http://www.southasiaanalysis.org/papers32/paper3117.html

While the Government of Dr. Manmohan Singh has maintained its usual silence on what has been going on in Northern Jammu & Kashmir (Kupwara, Uri and Baramulla areas), there have been worrisome reports in the media about the infiltration of one more group of 30 well-trained terrorists-cum-insurgents from the Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK) into J &K. This group, which has been described as a "Taliban group" to distinguish it from the earlier infiltrators who belonged to the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LET), is well-trained and has shown a capability to keep our security forces engaged in conventional style battles. If the media reports of the way the new infiltrators are fighting are to be believed, what we are seeing is reminiscent of the infiltration of a re-trained and better-trained Neo Taliban of Mulla Mohammad Omar into Afghanistan in 2003. The re-trained Neo Taliban showed a remarkable capability for mixing conventional style stand and fight battles and suicide or suicidal terrorism. The US-led NATO forces in Afghanistan are still struggling to grapple with the re-trained Neo Taliban infiltrators from their sanctuaries in Pakistan.

2. The use of the word Taliban in describing the new batch of infiltrators into Northern J&K can be confusing. The Pakistani media refer to the anti-India terrorist organisations, which consist largely of Punjabis and Punjabi-speaking Kashmiris (Mirpuris) from Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK), as the Punjabi Taliban and to the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which consists largely of Pashtuns, as the Pashtun Taliban. The TTP consists largely of the Mehsud and Wazir sub-tribes of the Pashtuns. Next to the Punjabis, who constitute about 75 per cent of the Pakistan Army, the Pashtuns constitute the second largest number in the Army---- about 20 per cent. They are recruited from both the North-West Frontier Province (NWFP) and the Federally-Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) ---- with the Mehsuds and the Wazirs constituting the largest single group of Pashtun tribals recruited into the Army from the FATA.

3. When the Pakistan Army tried to annex J&K after Pakistan became independent in 1947, it first sent into J&K Mehsud and Wazir tribals who projected themselves as local Kashmiris. Initially, the Pakistan Army totally denied any responsibility for their depredations, but ultimately it accepted that the tribal infiltrators were from the army. These infiltrators managed to occupy some parts of J&K which were constituted into the POK. As a reward for their services, many of these Mehsuds and Wazirs were allowed to settle down in the POK after their retirement from the Army.

4. When Ayub Khan wanted to occupy J&K in 1965, he again sent the Mehsuds and the Wazirs into J&K and tried to project them as indigenous Kashmiris. If Lal Bahadur Shastri, the then Indian Prime Minister, had not retaliated by ordering the Indian Army to enter the Lahore area thereby creating panic in the Pakistani army, these tribals from the Pakistani Army posing as indigenous Kashmiris would have probably occupied Jammu and even Srinagar. After the war was over, Ayub Khan had these Mehsuds and Wazirs from the Pakistan Army re-settled in POK. During the military confrontation between India and Pakistan after the foiled terrorist attack on the Indian Parliament on December 13, 2001, Pervez Musharraf used to say that there were 150,000 ex-service-men re-settled in the POK, who would put up a fierce resistance to any forays by the Indian Army into the POK. These ex-servicemen largely consist of Punjabis, Mehsuds and Wazirs.

5. Against this background, the new group of infiltrators into J & K could be either members of the so-called Punjabi Taliban or members from the families of Mehsud and Wazir re-settlers in the POK who are being referred to by the locals as the Taliban, meaning the Pashtun Taliban. In the past----in 1947-48 and in 1965---- the infiltration of the tribals was a prelude to a regular invasion by the Pakistan Army. This time, the objective of the infiltration seems to be to strengthen the claims of some non-governmental and governmental experts close to the administration of President Barack Obama, who have been saying that a solution to the so-called Kashmir problem should be the starting point of any effective fight against terrorism emanating from the Pakistani territory by the Pakistan Army.

How you can propel change, make a difference

There are ways in which the educated middle class can use this anger to push for changes in the system, writes Vir Sanghvi

Is there something that we can do with the anger that all of us feel in the aftermath of the Mumbai attacks? Can we find some constructive way of channelling it apart from appearing on TV shows and demanding that so-called Pakistani flags be removed from slums near our favourite five-star hotels?

It saddens me that so many morons from Mumbai’s chattering classes went on TV to declare that on the whole terrorism was a bad thing but gosh, when it appeared this close to their doorstep it was so bad that we really had to give up on democracy/attack Pakistan/abandon our civil liberties/not pay taxes or whatever.
Because the middle class awakening can make a difference. There are ways in which the educated middle class can use this anger to push for changes in the system. The events of 26/11 exposed the structural weakness in the way India is protected. We may not have the votes to change the way in which it is governed, but we certainly have the power to push for changes in the way it is policed. I yield to nobody in my admiration for the Armed Forces (despite the odd admiral who may have behaved like a prat in the aftermath of the crisis) but the problems in our security structure do not have anything to do with our excellent army, air force or navy.
They have to do with the police. It worries me that the police have not got the credit they deserve for the successes of 26/11. If you look at the CCTV footage that was released by the authorities of the scene inside the Taj you realize that long before the commandos went in, lightly armed Mumbai police officers and constables were already inside risking their lives as automatic fire and grenades rained down on them.
Also Read Vir’s previous Lounge columms
The deaths of such officers as Hemant Karkare took place only because they led from the front, actually placing themselves in the line of fire. We forget also the sacrifices of individual lower-level officers and constables—the railway policemen who attacked the terrorists with their World War II vintage 303s and the policemen from Mumbai’s DB Marg station who using hand arms and lathis arrested Mohammed Ajmal Kasab—and got him alive. One sub-inspector, a 54-year-old man with a family, grabbed Kasab and did not let go of him even as he was shot several times. He died but his efforts put Kasab into custody.
We forget also that the NSG—the undoubted heroes of the siege—is a joint venture between the police and the army; the NSG’s director general, J.K. Dutt, who personally led the operation and impressed all of India with his modesty, clear-headedness and leadership qualities, is an officer from the Indian Police Service (he is now probably the one alumnus that students of Mayo College, where he studied, are most proud of but that’s another story).
The NSG was set up by Rajiv Gandhi (as was the Special Protection Group, India’s answer to the US Secret Service and one of our finest forces—also run by the IPS) specifically to fight terrorism and it has never failed at a single operation.
One problem is that successive governments have not had Rajiv Gandhi’s passion for security and intelligence and all the forces have been denied many of the facilities that they require to function effectively. A larger problem is that all state governments ignore the crucial issue of police reform for fear that a professional police force will not allow them to interfere with its functioning.
It’s here that the middle class has a role to play—it is one area where we can make a difference and can change things for the better.
Take the example of the NSG. No sooner had the media highlighted the fact that the force did not even have a designated plane than the government promptly ordered three planes for the NSG. Now, the strength of the NSG will go up and there will be NSG units stationed in major cities.
All this is entirely due to pressure from the media. It’s not just the media that can make a difference. I saw banker Amit Chandra, lawyer Cyril Shroff, businessman Cyrus Gazdar and others on Maneka Doshi’s CNBC programme and was impressed by the clear-headedness of their vision. Now that group has found more like them and taken the legal route. They’ve filed public interest litigation demanding that the Mumbai police be given the facilities they need to secure the city effectively.
They have also asked why successive reports of police commissions have been ignored. And they’ve urged the court to ask state governments to push ahead with police reform.
Those members of the group I have spoken to are realistic about their prospects. They know that the battle for reform of the police force—which involves many state governments and political parties—will be a long and hard one (can you see Mayawati agreeing to let go of her hold on the UP police, for instance?). But they think that the effort is worth it.
They are more optimistic about using the judicial system to get the Mumbai police the facilities they need. Their petition asks the court to appoint a citizens group to oversee the process. That way we can be sure that the money that is spent actually goes on the right things.
So yes, there is a role for the educated middle class. What a shame then that the buffoons of Mumbai’s Page 3 set nearly blew it for us.

Four new NSG hubs to have 241 commandos each

Four new NSG hubs to have 241 commandos each

New Delhi, June 26: The four NSG hubs, getting operational next week, will have 241 commandos each for counter-terrorist and anti-hijack operations.

While the Mumbai hub of the National Security Guard will become functional on June 30 after being formally inaugurated by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, those in Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata will be operational on July 1.

The hubs at Kolkata and Hyderabad would also be upgraded to the status of "regional centres" soon and the commando strength at these centres would be more than the Mumbai and Chennai bases, NSG sources said today.

"A cohesive unit, comprising army and paramilitary commandos, has been stationed at all these hubs. The commando strength will be 241 personnel at each of these hubs," they said.

The elite "Black Cat" force, headed by Director General NPS Aulakh, has already transported its men and material to all these hubs.

"The logistical support and the weaponry have reached the hubs, which have been furnished with necessary infrastructure related to communications and troop bunkers," they said.

Till training facilities are developed at the new hubs, fully trained commandos from NSG's Manesar (Gurgaon) garrison would be deputed to man these centres.

The decision to set up regional NSG hubs was taken in the aftermath of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

Mumbai NSG hub to be operational on tomorrow

New Delhi (IANS): The Mumbai hub of National Security Guards (NSG) would become operational Tuesday, nearly seven months after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

"After the Mumbai terror attack, a need was felt to have the presence of NSG in other metros also for effective and quick response in countering such incidents. Thus, four regional hubs were sanctioned and are being raised and operationalised at Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata," according to an official statement here.

While the Mumbai regional hub becomes operational June 30, the hubs at Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata will become operational on July 1.

"The government has also sanctioned two NSG regional centres to be established at Kolkata and Hyderabad. The existing hubs at Kolkata and Hyderabad will subsequently be merged with the regional centres," the statement added.

The new NSG hubs have been established at Marol (23 acres) in Mumbai, Nedunkundram (85 acres) in Chennai, Trimulghery (22 acres) in Hyderabad and Badu (20 acres) in Kolkata.

"Pre-fabricated and permanent structures are being constructed to station NSG commandos at these locations. The National Buildings Construction Corporation Ltd (NBCC) has been assigned the construction work," the statement added.

After the Mumbai terror attacks, the cabinet had approved setting up of NSG hubs in the metropolitan cities to quickly mobilise commandos in case of a terrorist strike.

"With the establishing of the hubs, the response time of NSG for countering any terrorist action would be reduced very significantly,” said the statement.

Force One Commando Unit of Mumbai

Force One to be operational by Aug 15: Maha govt

Mumbai, July 04: Force One, set up by Maharashtra government on the lines of the National Security Guards in the aftermath of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, will be operational by August 15.

Force One will be ready to take up its job on August 15 and its members have already completed preliminary training, Home Minister Jayant Patil said.

Over 1,600 young policemen from the state had expressed their willingness to join the force, but after a thorough physical and mental examination, only 320 were shortlisted.

Some had to be dropped as they could not cope up with the strenuous physical exercises during their training period.

Presently, 150-odd commandos are being trained at the State Reserve Police campus in Pune.

After completing the ongoing second phase of the training, the selected candidates of the Force would be sent to Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa for advanced training, Patil said.

The objective is to show them how to deal with various conditions and learn modern combat techniques, Patil said.

Graduate and English speaking cadets would be given preference for the training, he added.

The South African government and private agencies will give training to Force One commandos, the minister said.

The commandos could have been given training here like the NSG but the Home Department wants them to see other systems and find out what best can be done to deal with terrorism, Patil said.

Force One will be deployed at major cities like Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur.

The state government is also planning to acquire land at Goregaon in western suburb and south Mumbai for easy access for the Force in emergency situation, he said.

A location in Marathwada region would also be identified for the purpose, he added.

UZI diplomacy: Israel/India know no peace

UZI diplomacy: Israel/India know no peace

The cooperation between Israel and India, with U.S. blessing, is really destroying the peace and starting a new arms race in south Asia, due to such intensive Israel Cooperation with India, Pakistan and India came at the brink of war 3 times since 1998. These arms sales were part of a declared NDA policy to forge an alliance among India, the United States, and Israel
India is one of the 39 countries with whom Israel has signed “secret co-operative agreements” to prevent information leaks from joint security projects. India and Israel are two democratic countries who killed more than one million people on the name of insurgency from 1947 to 2008 (Kashmir, Assam, Palestine).

In the 2001-2006 India had purchased arms worth nearly $15 billion from Israel and has been its largest client for military hardware.2006 to 2009 $9 billion arms purchased by India from Israel. According to figures released in 2008 by the Israeli Defense Ministry India accounted for 50% of Israel’s military exports. The report “Wrong Alliance” from 1992 to 2001 states.
From anti-missile systems to hi-tech radars, from sky drones to night-vision equipment, Indo-Israeli defense cooperation has known no bounds in recent times.

Brajesh Mishra, outlined a proposal in a speech to the American Jewish Committee in Washington in May 2003 that India, Israel, and the United States should unite to combat the common threat of Islam. Israel is most probably behind the Indian parliament attack in 2002 and now in Mumbai terrors attacks of 2008 to accelerate arms sale to India and destabilize the integrity of Pakistan who is considered great threat to Israel security and stability. All three serving chiefs of India have now visited Israel in the last 2 years.

Israel Mossad have infiltrated in Jihadi Organization structures through Indian influence in Afghanistan to help and train them for starting a proxy war against Pakistan in Baluchistan and in FATA and plunge India and Pakistan to brink of war
. There is already an on-going relationship between Israeli Intelligence agencies and their Indian counterparts. It is well known that Mossad routinely infiltrates even “friendly” intelligence agencies and uses them to plant information which helps Israel – one of such operations that Mossad is currently working on is codenamed “Clean Break.”

So what’s the reason behind defense ties between India and Israel?
Pakistan’s missile and nuclear weapon technologies are main concern to Israel. Pakistan is a supplier of intermediate-range missiles and if transfers this technology to boost its arm industry to countries like Iran, Libya, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Syria then Israel will be in serious problems – as stated by Efraim Inbar who is a professor of political science at Bar-Ilan University and director of the Begin-Sadat (BESA) Center for Strategic Studies Israel.

India helped Israel during the 1967, Middle Eastern conflict, by covertly sending military equipment to Israel. Before that in 1963, General Shalfid, Israel Chief of Army staff, visited India for discussions with his Indian counterpart. In the military field in India’s critical hour of need of the 1971 war with Pakistan, India sought Israel’s help to supply it with the devastating artillery weapon, 160 mm mortars and ammunition, exclusively manufactured in Israel.

India embarked on its nuclear tests with the support of the international community, namely the United States and Israel, because the US desired a nuclear force to balance China as a nuclear power in Asia and Central Asia. Israel benefited from this cooperation–according to some sources–by being permitted to conduct two nuclear tests on Indian territory, the components transferred on board an Israeli C130 military aircraft that landed in India two weeks prior to the tests. India also makes use of its nuclear cooperation with Israel in maintaining qualitative superiority over its enemy, Pakistan. This was stated by General Ahmed Abdel Halim a member of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs (ECFA) in a Alhram weekly and included in a report called “Israel, India and the Arab World“.

During India’s 1999 Kargil war with Pakistan, Israel rushed military support to India, cementing the nascent defense relationship. Israel sent its laser guided missiles to India during the Indo-Pak Kargil war of 1999, making it possible for the Indian Mirages to destroy Pakistani bunkers in the mountains. Jane’s Defense Weekly, which gave details on the supplies, reported in March 2000.

Israel, the rogue nation & illegitimate child of America supplied missiles, portable radars & other weapons during Kargil War in 1999 as confirmed by Shri Rahul Bedi (India’s defense analyst) on BBC and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) – 8 in 1999 for surveillance purposes (Army) – 20 in 2000 during the Kargil war UAVs for high altitude surveillance, laser – guided systems and many other items were supplied within 24 hours ‘Indian Express’ July 3, 2000.

After September 11 attack on the World Trade Centre, and attack on Indian Parliament Israel has been selling defense supplies to India, just from 2002 to 2008 India buy more than $25 billion dollars worth weapon and transfer of technology from Israel. In June 2002 as part of “Operation Parakram,” after the attack on Indian Parliament, Israel supplied hardware through special planes after a visit by the Director-General of Israeli Defense ministry

Israel helping the Indian forces in Kashmir and in Maoist area against right of self determination, Indian version Counter Insurgency. Israeli deputy chief of general staff, Major General Moshe Kaplinsky, visited J&K, including the 16 Corps headquarters in Nagrota for presumably helping India with “counter- insurgency”.Article in the Jerusalem Post India has signed a $30 million contract with Israel Military Industries (IMI) for 3,400 Tavor assault rifles and 200 Galil sniper rifles, as well as night vision and laser range finding and targeting equipment. Tavor assault rifles, Galil sniper rifles, and night vision and laser range finding and targeting equipment to kill the innocent Kashmiri on the name of insurgency.

More than 90,000 Kashmiris are killed by Indian force from 1988 to 2008 by these weapon from Israel. India buys the counter-infiltration devices Israel uses on Golan Heights and in the Negev Desert. 4 battalion (3000) was send to Israel for special training against freedom fight in Kashmir Ghatak force. India refurbished the “Ghatak” force soldiers and officers trained by Israel in fake anti-terrorist operation especially conducting Operation in Indian Held Kashmir and Maoist insurgency areas.

Dan Williams in his article for Reuters wrote, “Israel arm sales peak despite Lebanon war fallout”. Israel acquired an element of strategic depth (crucial for a geographically small state like Israel) set up logistical bases in the Indian Ocean for its navy. Three Israel submarine are stationed in Indian ocean in Bangalore.

Despite this, however, it is remarkable that India and Israel managed to come together on a range of issues, especially the close collaboration between the Indian intelligence agency, RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) and Israel’s Mossad. While India got tacit help and support from Israel during its 1962 war with China and 1965 war with Pakistan. The Times of India stated in April 2008 that Indian and Israeli defense officials have initiated work on an unmanned helicopter. Being developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) unmanned air vehicle division Malat.

According to latest report, Pakistan army has captured Israel made weapon in Baluch insurgency and in ongoing operation in FATA and in Swat. Uzi diplomacy to press hard to Pakistan for diplomatic relation through supporting insurgency and Dr. A.Q. Khan (NPT) matter in Pakistan by Israel (Jews) lobby to investigate him by FBI and Mohammad Al Bradi (IAEA).
According to JINSA, India has had to significantly boost its defense budget in order to finance all its new Israeli arms purchases: By 2010 New Delhi’s annual military budget is expected to reach $100 billion.

The Great concern to Israel and India is Pakistan increasing defense cooperation with Iran, Jordan, Syria and Egypt, Yemen, and second most important is GCC countries are heavily relying on Pakistan forces, 60% GCC Defense forces are Pakistani origin (Bhrain,Qatar,Oman,UAE,) 60% armed forces are belonged to Pakistani people and in case of (Kuwait, KSA) data is not available.

Though India and Israel only established diplomatic relations in 1992, their relationship has blossomed over the past 17 years, particularly in the defense arena. India has become the Israeli defense industry’s top foreign customer, with some $1.5 billion in annual purchases, and Israel is now India’s second most important weapons supplier after Russia.

A coalition of US-India Political Action Committee (USINPAC), America-Israel Political Action Committee (AIPAC) and American Jewish Committee (AJC) has vehemently lobbied to gain the Bush administration’s approval for Israel to sell four Phalcon early warning radar planes to India worth US $1 billion. Sales included upgrades for MIG 21 aircraft and T72 tanks originally purchased from Russia, the Barak anti-missile ship defense system, communications equipment, laser-guided munitions and the Phalcon. The first of five Phalcon AWACs were delivered in 2007. Co-partnerships are now developing between Indian and Israeli firms.

Israeli arms experts are also seeking to sell the Arrow II anti-tactical ballistic missile system to India, which would require U.S. approval due to shared technology in the ATBM system.

In 2008 U.S. $2.5 billion defense project with Israel, the developments of missiles capable of intercepting aircraft and other aerial targets at a range of 70 km is to be undertaken by India’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Israel Aerospace Industries.

The Indian arms purchases include:
1. Barak Naval anti-missile defense system this system would provide India with a close-in point defense system against the Harpoon and Exocet missiles acquired by Pakistan.
2. Sales included upgrades for MIG 21 aircraft and T72 tanks originally purchased from Russia.
3. Phalcon advanced airborne early warning systems.
4. Green Pine early-warning and fire-control radars.
5. Up gradation of 180 130 mm M-46 field guns by Israeli firm Soltam.
6. Super-Dvora Mk II fast attack craft.
7. Heron Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
8. Star Night Technologies Night Vision Goggles.
9. Spider quick-reaction surface to air missile (55 km range) $2.5 billion joint collaboration project.

A $480 million, five-year contract was concluded in early 2006 between the Indian Defense Research Development Organization (DRDO) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) for missile development. India and Israel are now working to expand their already considerable missile development cooperation to cover both air and land based missile systems. It is estimated that this new deal with IAI would be of the order of $2.5 billion. The deal, apart from missile systems, also includes radar systems made by IAI’s subsidiary, Elta Systems Ltd, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), and possibly satellites too.

On January 21, 2008 an Indian space launch vehicle lifted off from the Sriharikota spaceport on the Indian Ocean to put into space Israel’s most sophisticated spy satellite ever launched, the Polaris. The Polaris satellite is Israel’s first equipped with synthetic aperture radar that allows it to take high resolution imagery in all weather conditions. The radar looks through clouds or fog to see objects on the ground as published in a reported by Brookings. IAI launched its series of 5 such satellites that India has agreed to launch for Israel.

TechSAR all-weather, high-resolution radar satellite using an Indian launcher in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). In return, Israel has agreed to share certain images from the satellites with India, according to a report in The Times of India. Israel has made no secret of the fact that the prime function of TechSAR is to spy on Iran and Pakistan Nuclear Arsenal, Iran a country with which India has friendly relations and Pakistan, India have fought 4 wars and still fighting a proxy war in Baluchistan and in NWFP (FATA).

Pakistan understandably has anxiety about spy satellites launched by India being used to gather information on Pakistan, especially with reported plans to launch two more satellites. Times of India reported that although command, control and supervision of the Tescar will be in Israeli hands, “Israel will allow India access to some of the data sent back to ground stations.

Israel’s role in India’s counter-terrorism operations in Kashmir would make Israeli tourists all the more vulnerable in the state. In 2000, reports in the media said an Israeli counter-terrorism team, including military intelligence specialists and senior police commanders, visited Kashmir to assess India’s security needs. Since then, several such visits are said to have taken place. Kashmiris insist that “Israeli agents” were in Kashmir much earlier.

Conclusion
Pakistan cannot afford to lower its guard. India has proven to be an expansionist power and has also hegemonic ambitions. Pakistan cannot, therefore, afford “not to be” fully prepared to deal with the possible threats to its integrity from India.

After all, it was New Delhi that made possible the breakup of Pakistan in 1971, 1984 Siachin adventure and attempt to capture Karakoram highway to cut vital road link with China. India’s warm relations with both Afghanistan, Israel and Iran are motivated by the way it views Islamabad. In other words, Pakistan cannot be what Canada and Mexico are for the United States or what Argentina is for Brazil.

According to a the United States Congressional Research Service, Pakistan spent $45.1bn on arms purchases from 1992 to 2008, due to Monster Israel and India military cooperation.

The Indian consulates of having “less to do with humanitarian aid and more to do with India’s top-secret intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing.” to set-up networks of “terrorist training camps” located inside Afghanistan, including at the Afghan military base of Qushila Jadid, north of Kabul; near Gereshk, in southern Helmand province; in the Panjshir Valley, northeast of Kabul; and at Kahak and Hassan Killies in western Nimruz province.

Pakistan has to demand the UN investigation of Indian parliament attack in 2002 and role of Israel (Mossad) and probe into Mumbai carnage and attack on Norman house – Israel culture center why terrorist attack on that place.

Pakistan has to tell the Arabs the price Pakistan is paying as leader of Muslim ummah and unconditional support to the cause of Palestine and burden to its economy due to heavily spending on military expenditure due to Indian and Israel defense cooperation, India ambition to break the Pakistan again.

Indian Infantry, special forces to get new-generation carbines and rifles

INdian Infantry, special forces to get new-generation carbines and rifles

NEW DELHI: In the dazzle of strategic missiles, fighter jets, nuclear submarines and main-battle tanks, basic infantry gear often gets short shrift.
No longer. The 1.13-million strong Army is now on course to ink three deals for 3,90,000 new-generation carbines and assault rifles.

Defence ministry sources said the aim was to seal the deals, worth around Rs 7,000 crore, `as soon as possible' to bolster the `combat potential' of infantry soldiers and special forces.

Interestingly enough, the first phase of Army's high-tech F-INSAS (future infantry soldier as a system) project in the pipeline also focuses on enhancing the `lethality and survivability' of foot-soldiers.
F-INSAS, in fact, wants to transform soldiers into self-contained, fullynetworked, mobile killing machines, with a high degree of `situational awareness' and capable of operating in all-terrain and all-weather conditions.

Under it, infantry soldiers are to be progressively equipped with light-weight integrated ballistic helmets with `heads-up display' and miniaturised communication systems; portable visual, chemical and biological sensors; hand-held computer displays, GPS and ; and of course lethal firepower with laser-guided modular weapon systems.

The biggest of the three deals to be inked is the project to buy 43,318 `close-quarter battle' (CQB) carbines off-the-shelf from abroad for around Rs 4,400 crore, which is to be followed by the indigenous manufacture of another 1,16,764 similar guns under transfer of technology.

"The global tender for CQB carbines was issued in early-2008. The deal should be inked within the 2009-10 fiscal," said a source.

Soldiers will find the compact and modular carbines, equipped with night-vision devices, laser designators and detachable under-barrel grenade launchers, much easier to operate than full-length rifles.

Under the second Rs 2,183 crore project, the Ordnance Factory Board is to manufacture 2,18,320 advanced carbines based on the new 5.56-mm model developed indigenously.

The third deal, in turn, is the procurement of 10,730 light-weight assault rifles for Rs 385 crore. Incidentally, the 10 existing battalions of Parachute Regiment, each with around 850 soldiers, have now more or less been reorganised into seven Para-SF (Special Forces) and three Para-SF (airborne) units.

But equipping these special forces, tasked with conducting clandestine and `irregular' warfare deep behind enemy lines, with specialised equipment has taken place in quite a slipshod manner till now.

Army, however, says the 40 specialised items earmarked for special forces are now being fast-tracked. These include weaponry like TAR-21 Tavor assault rifles and M4A1 carbines, all-terrain multi-utility vehicles and GPS navigation systems, modular acquisition devices and laser range-finders, high-frequency communication sets and combat free-fall parachutes, among other equipment, from countries like the US, Israel, France and Sweden.

hope this gets materialised

We dont need conventional rifles anymore we need Bullpup versions. Reliability is a big issue when it comes to rifles. Let us see which one gets selected.
