SF could check the Airtronic USAs RPG-7,as it is lighter, reusable, reliable platform and could fire multiple warheads.

The Gurus may be able to shed some light on the following:

I just finished a book called "Escape to Nowhere". It is written by an ex-R&AW officer and talks about the defection of Rabinder Singh to the US in detail.

The book has some amazing insights of what happens within R&AW.

One line which caught my eye was " The vice chief of R&AW visits a "special unit" based in Arunachal Pradesh. The unit is frustrated as they are highly skilled and supremely trained but are not being unleashed on the enemies of India.

What unit could this be , which reports to the vice chief of R&AW

Will add some more to the post regarding their mountaineering skill ..

During one incident at high altitude our lungs were grasping for oxygen and few of their people along us were smoking cigarettes, That is how they are where we are at our limits ..

Elite "Vikas" troops climb Mt Everest for fun. Apart from that there fitness level is on par with Para SF if not better.

Interesting stuff, the first time I have known a R&AW officer to even mention SG's existence.

The book is written by Amar Bhushan and I am pasting the page below for everyone to have a read

Chapter titled Day 59

It was a busy day for Jeev. He left very early in the morning for a secret training location in Arunachal Pradesh. He had expected that his discussions with field commanders would be over before lunch but the debate got intense and occasionally heated. Several commanders wanted to know why they were not being utilized against Naxalites, terrorists, and militants when they were better equipped and better trained and more mobile than any security force in the country. A few mentioned that ironically, it was their efficiency that was proving to be their biggest drawback. No one wanted to involve them in operations because they invariably outmatched the regular forces in hitting at hostile targets. An officer was bitterly critical about the way they were forced to abandon an operation when they had reached within the striking distance. Another officer wondered whether their gross under-utilization in live operations was not a crime against government resources. Almost everyone claimed that the leadership at all levels was letting them down by not utilizing even five percent of their potential. “I appreciate your sentiments,” Jeev said, wrapping up the debate. “I feel the same way as you do,” he added. “Sir, why don’t you do something?” asked an officer.
“That’s because I do not occupy a position where a difference can be made. It starts with the Chief and ends with the Prime Minister. The former is too clever to get into this mess and the latter is too ignorant and scared to force the issue,” Jeev explained. “What should we do then, sulk?” shot back another officer. “Keep training hard without despairing over larger issues of governance,” Jeev said, feeling guilty. The discussion carried on during the late lunch session, though less animatedly.

What do the gurus reckon this secret unit is?

I think it's fair to assume that very little is known about the activities of our SFs, especially SG and SFF, so much of the information in public domain is based on hearsay, picking up bits here and there peppered with some first hand information. Most people who really know are not going to talk much. So to say that one is better than the other or some are overrated, merely an opinion, not necessarily a fact.

Regardless, it's good to know that there are elite warriors out there defending this land from enemies round the clock. What we and the Government need to do is make their job as easy as possible and those of the enemies as difficult as possible.

But do remember, cleaning a mess is far more tedious and time consuming than creating one, so to expect instant results is not only unfair, but smacks of arrogance and ignorance.

That said I look forward to the news that the jihadi scum who attacked and ambushed our soldiers recently, were dispatched to jahannum and raise a silent salute to our men in uniform- special forces or otherwise.

What's more relevent than what unit is being discussed (I have my suspicions but it is irrelevent really) is the sentiment being expressed by the low level operators, this would be replicated across the military. This must destroy morale.

Sadly I can't say that Modi's govt has changed the picture at all, these guys must still be frustrated.

I think it will create bigger questions .
1) what our SF are doing in Afg , Somalia when we have border problems of ours .

2)Red , "Aman ki Tamasha" gang etc start questioning real intention of india in Afg , uttering same nonsense as Pakistan claim that , we use them to train TTP etc (I wish we are doing same).

3)Public opinion about india in normal afghan person , who think India only involve in peaceful construction activity ,unlike US , NATO who destroy their country , will change . This soft power is great asset for us in Afghanistan.

These 3 are just now in my mind , may be other pointing out manything.
