WHY BUY VICTRIX SCORPIO?!!

Indian procurement system is probably worse than most: I came across news that Indian Army commanders can buy a small amount of weapons and equipment under emergency procurement powers. That’s good but I can only see corruption or incompetence.

Buying 30 or so Victrix Scorpio (each costs close to $10,000 with all the accessories) makes absolutely no sense when money is the limiting factor. You can buy 50 Sako TRG 42 or MRAD or AW with the same amount and get the same performance. Victrix is not even tested in battle!

Also, which other country has bought Victrix?! No one. Won’t that raise suspicion in Indian anti-corruption office? Whole world uses Sako, AI, Berett, Remington, PGM and without any trials super-expensive Victrix shows up as winner! Berretta is Italian Company and known to have indulged in corruption to secure orders. I am sure India knows Italians well by now.

I have similar doubts about procurement of overpriced Beretta MX-4 few years ago by India. These procurements smell badly of foul play.
‘if the Victfix is that bad then many nations will not be using it. Finland’s SAKO sniper rifle is good but not as good. There are comparable Indian rifles.

Which nations use Victrix? Where did you come up with “not as good” results? In what war is Victrix used operationally? Sako, AI, Barrett, Remington, McMilan TAC, PGM are used currently in almost all the troubled spots in the world by Western armies.

Italian army itself uses Sako-42 as primary sniper rifle.

All these rifles have accuracy in Sub MOA but Sako costs 40% less.

Key differentiators are quality of Sniper training, type of scope and quality of ammunition.

Wouldn’t you be suspicious if your general bought a weapon without any trial that no one else has bought but costs almost double?!

You are a SAKO salesman. You have to find faults with everything else.

For the first time since the acquisition of Scorpios, I have seen someone with doubts.

Well I think the sole reason you're having these doubts are because you have never been with an Italian chick.
And if you have then you know why Victrix got the contract.

Another funny fact about this.
Just few months after Northern Command got their snipers, Para SF also placed a small order for an off the shelf rifle.
And interestingly it was Sako TRG 42.

IMHO we seriously-seriously-seriously need a specialised Scout Sniper type program that is optimized for Indian conditions.

Highly trained specialist military personnel of specific ranks that can operate both independently and can be integrated into different battalions and/or fire assault teams for specific mission types, among other things.

Here's a study done by the US Navy after they found out that marines were washing out of the scout sniper course at a higher rate as compared to previous years.

It highlights the personality types, ranks, age, etc that correlationally result in successful (different parts of the USMC SS program) USMC Scout Sniper Course graduates.

As of now anything with the word sniper in it is a complete mess in Indian military, be it personnel, equipment, training or doctrine.
But hopefully things are changing. Indeed it will take time, but it will improve for sure.

And if I'm not wrong then scout sniping is one of the intended role of Ghatak Platoon. Combine Rangers, Scout Snipers and Pathfinders; and you will have Ghatak. Albeit they also need adequate personnel, equipment and training.

Rifle is so new, it seemed was taken out of packing for photo ops
No just routine field maintenance, that's a professional who treats his baby with respect. He will hopefully edge his name in the league of legends soon.
