Indian army trained in Burmese.

IMPHAL: Foreign Language School (Myanmarese) being run under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) achieved a major milestone on Monday as the first batch of 28 students passed out of the school with flying colours.

It was a major achievement for the school, established on July 1, 2010.

The school, besides training personnel from Assam Rifles, also trains troops from other Central Armed Police Forces.

The training would help personnel from these forces, who are responsible for manning Indo-Myanmar border, to interact with Myanmerese authorities on various issues from time to time and create bonhomie.

The 72-week course was attended by 24 students from Assam Rifles, two from BSF and one each from CRPF and CISF.

In the Indian army, it is not only Burmese that people learn, but many other foreign languages.

It is important to understand the language of the States that are under insurgency and the neighbouring countries so that one can decipher documents, assist in interrogation as also understand what the people are speaking about.

It helps in the Civic Action undertaken by the Army so that one could interact one to one and ensure that one has understood the issue.

Learning the language is not adequate.

One has to have the feel of the environment to understand the culture, customs and traditions to be effective.

This is about training in language skills, not jungle warfare.

well actual warfare training of one of the most prestigious force of India takes place in south africa. i wont disclose the force name but its very famous, professional, for operations of strategic implication and near to us. it is trained in south africa by veterans of IA 71 war.
