That was just an example. What makes you think Pakistan will simply target 1-2 cities ? They'll target anything and everything which is of value.

We've had this discussion before. There is no way to ensure that these pieces will be pro India

Destabilization is indeed something to worry about. Imagine 4-5 Afghanistan like crazed states with 200million jehadis.

That is pure speculation . According to some sources, Pakistani nukes are proven Chinese designs.

They have more nukes, simply because India is larger in area and Pak mil knows that they can't win a conventional war.

btw our thermonuclear tests were a dud
Yes Pakistani nukes are of Chinis origin but of the 70s. CHIC-4.
We can argue over our TN in some other thread. This thread anyways talks about a conventional response to a nuke strike and the reasons for it.

There is a big difference between pakistan use of nukes and India's use. India will still exist
Pakistan will not. Pakistan has played a nuclear bluff for a long time why didn't pak
Use nukes in kargil? There was a threat of an Indian surge deep into pakistan then

Are you talking about avoiding a nuclear war? Well everyone wants to. But like you said, we never know with Pak. I personally have maintained over the years that the Pak nuke threat is a bluff but then we need to have options ready just incase they are not bluffing.
Yes

India as a country will survive a nuclear strike. We are just too big to be destroyed

You also have to understand nuclear targeting. UK had all its 200 nukes targeted at Moscow. That it what they concluded after deliberating over and over again as to what it would take to destroy Moscow. Pakistan is not UK. No megaton nukes, no reliable delivery system. Add to that our ABM.
Yusuf, Pakistan is not UK. But we're not USSR either.

During the Cold War, nuke-proof structures like NORAD were constructed to preserve top leadership of Superpowers. Additionally, major cities had thousands of fallout shelters for civilians. We have nothing equivalent in place (what I know from open source info)

After the destruction of our political and military leadership, there will be complete chaos.

We're talking of thousands of megaton warheads in case of USA or the Soviet Union, in case of Indo-Pak conflict its a couple of hundred 100kT warheads which no one is sure even work. As of now, Pakistan can't take out more than a few cities even with a first strike. It'd be best to disperse our assets and hope for the best.

There must be some acceptable level of collateral damage that Indian govt has found acceptable?
But the damage to pak will be existential. Indian govt at bare minimum needs to drills in schools
And set up contingency plans for governance and the military.also pakistan 10kiloton firecracker
May not be an extreme scenario you imagine?

Which if they work, will wipe out a race, or probably majority of India

Nope. Fallout would be deadly in the planes , but not enough to wipe out the majority of the population or even 20% of it.

A 140kT warhead won't even take out all of Delhi(with blast radius alone, fallout is a different matter)

@Everyone....

That is not going to happen with 60 year old SCUD they are using and the crude
Uranium reprocessing that takes 5 years to produce yellowcake as well as their
Non existent fissile material while India has third largest stockpile by some
Experts estimate.

For a 13-18 ton nuclear material could cause so much damage, how much would a 140 megaton would do?

What if they already have some nukes? Some sources have also said Pak has more nukes than India.

The fallout if people would survive would be this.

no i guess Indias first goal during start of major war will be to destroy pukis nuke firing capability by both missile and through air force and army's covert back door operations our primary goal would be to destroy at least 60-80% of their nuke capability in 1st week of war it may be hard but it's our only way.

And if our mother land suffers any nuke attack we should not plan to create 5 different problem for us in future by dividing them rather help them to get their 72 pig in heaven.

Pakistani arsenal is made up of Hiroshima yield bombs.

That same design is there with NoKo and their test was a dud. Best estimate was 4 KT IIRC.
India does not reveal what they have but look at fissile material as an accurate measure rather
Than comparing crude Uranium on antiquated no don't ding don't missiles.

The question I raised is not that if India have nukes, or the kilo tons of Pakistani bombs.

They are simple if one is dropped over India it would certainly mean game over for India, even if we end up, obliterating pakistan in the process.

why do you think so when you have a living proof Japan which emerged top of world even when the health care was not that great in treating radiation as it's now

Because
1) India ain't Japan
2) And the nu kes today are 100 or 1000 times greater than that dropped over Japan.
3) Spare a thought for the people who ll caught in the cross fire, it ll be majority of normal citizens like us.

A nuclear Pakistan is a reality we have to live with right now. A nuclear war with them is not a matter of if rather when unless we do something about it.

A single nuke won't mean game over for India.

One 10kiloton nuke would not be game over it would not be enough to destroy any
Major city. 18 kilotons were used in nagasaki and hiroshima the blast killed roughly 70,000-
100,000 people and the radiation over a million.

A nuclear Pakistan is a reality, but not a nuclear war, there is so much that can be done to prevent it.
Add, I guess we must also be prepared for the worst case scenario's. it should start with shelters for normal citizens.
