Kolkata Police to induct copters for security and surveillance
Kolkata, Nov 15 (PTI) Kolkata Police is all set to induct helicopters for effective management of the security situation and to augment its surveillance capabilities.

The move is a step to modernise the force by introducing updated policing methods and tactics and it would start using the helicopters soon, a senior home department official told PTI.

"Inducting helicopters into the force will definitely help Kolkata Police to help in increasing surveillance in and around the city. Helicopters will also help in the effective management of any security situation," the official said.

At least two helicopters would be purchased in the first phase, he said adding that the order for them would be placed soon.

The force has already introduced snipers and commandos.

A detailed discussion was held between senior Kolkata Police(KP) officials and experts were recently held at KP headquarters here on the issue.

"There were discussions regarding the advantages of using helicopters in the city for quick deployment of forces to inaccessible areas and how to use them for city policing," said another senior Kolkata Police officer, who was present at the meeting.

There were also discussions on where the helicopters would be stationed so that they can be used easily at the required time, he added.

"The copters will have space for at least four persons to sit. The helicopters will have facilities for fitting guns and will be manoeuvrable in narrow spaces," the officer said adding that NSG-trained special KP police personnel would man them.

The induction of helicopters by Kolkata Police would also help the neighbouring police commissionerates in dealing with the crimes and keeping a surveillance in areas under them, the home department officer said.

Mumbai Police started using police helicopters since 2011 and other forces are mulling procuring copters for important role in emergency situations for surveillance as well as operational functions.

This is the kind of role that HAL LUH would be ideal for, as more and more forces around the country develop this requirement I hope HAL capitalises.

CHETAK COMMANDOS
GUJARAT STATE POLICE

H&K MP5-A5
SIG 556 SWAT
Looking very nice now they’ve got proper plate carriers but someone should tell that commanding officer not to wear his side arm like that. You don’t want to be crossing your body to reach for your weapon, that’s a big no-no in reflex shooting.

Punjab Police Special Operations Group
you can tell many of these guys are ex-Army by their weapons handling but no helmets just like the last bunch of jokers (Punjab SWAT) these guys replaced? Very unimpressive. Guess a bit of material really will prevent a ricochet or high speed debris from lodging into their skulls.

ANDRA/TELANGANA OCTOPUS COMMANDOS

PARAKRAM TEAM AT ANDAMAN
I hope the idea of PARAKRAM teams catches on, seen them here and Delhi.

Every major town and city should have these roaming around and able to respond immediately to an armed threat or terrorist incident. A SWAT team or QRT is usually centrally based or on static duties so will always take time to respond, they aren’t response elements by nature.

a similar model to what the UK has where almost all police are unarmed but there are Armed response units with specially trained firearms officers who patrol and can be called in for assistance

Delhi police Parakram vans.
What ab utterly pathetic state they are! Ancient AKs, no plate carriers, no spare mags, no radios, no helmets etc etc

but it’s okay they have elbow guards, bandanas and sunglasses because they need to look “cool” FFS.

they aren’t even holding their weapons correctly which makes me seriously doubt their capabilities. And these are meant to be the first responders to terror attack in the capital of the world’s 5th largest economy! Whoever signed off on this unit deserves to be pecked to death by hungry vultures.

Did they really learn nothing from 26/11?? A few determined terrorists with some relative familiarity with small arms were able to cut threw these poorly trained and poorly armed police officers like a hot knife through butter. It’s frankly criminal to expect these guys to be an anti-terror unit with this level of equipment, would you move in the direction of an AK-47 with nothing but a shirt on your back and a rusty AK in your hands? I certainly wouldn’t.

The concept is a great great idea but execution is worse than pathetic.
