The version of the police force is " Why should they equip police who mans a population where 99.9% of the population are normal civilians"
They went on to say that enforcement happens with the intel and perceived threats.

But..IMO cops should be well equipped..highly lethal and ready to strike anytime... now that the terrorist tactics have changed to open firing upon crowds using automatic weapons..and most of the time these attacks like that in Paris is linked to home grown groups.

Daya Nayak reinstated

Encounter specialist PSI Daya Nayak was on Monday reinstated into the Maharashtra Police force for the second time in his controversial career.

Nayak, a 1995-batch officer, was suspended in 2006 following allegations of disproportionate assets but was reinstated in 2012, after the charges against him could not be proved. He was posted with the West region Control Room in Mumbai, and was transferred to Nagpur in 2014. When he refused to take up the posting and failed to report for duty for over a year, he was suspended on July 2015.

“The order instructing him to join the Nagpur police was cancelled by the government in August. Thereafter, there was no reason to continue his suspension. He was reinstated on Thursday,” DGP, Maharashtra, Praveen Dixit said.
