Re: INSAS Rifle, LMG & Carbine

New Delhi: CRPF, which is deployed for anti- Naxal operations, has decided to shun its standard weapon of combat, the indigenous INSAS rifle, and henceforth arm its troops exclusively with the AK series of assault rifles.

The force has also sought to procure 20,000 new AK series rifles for its troops deployed in the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas in various states and counter-insurgency theatres in the North-East after it found that the INSAS rifle was not proving to be as "operationally suitable" as the Russian made AK-47 and -56 series of combat rifles.

The country's largest paramilitary force, with its three lakh personnel, is now planning to reduce the numbers of INSAS rifles in its armoury after a technical and scientific comparison with the sophisticated AK rifles found that the latter was more effective.

Field commanders of the force deployed in the anti-Naxal operations grid said they were increasingly sending the INSAS to the weapon repairs store of the force.

The Indian Small Arms System (INSAS) rifle has been the primary weapon of the force for a number of years now and it is even relied upon by the Indian Army for use by its troops in various combat theatres.

The INSAS was developed for the first time in late 1980s by the Ordnance Factories Board (OFB) for aid of the Indian infantry forces.

"INSAS was never the preferred weapon for us in operational areas like in the Left Wing Extremism theatre. We have found that our men are more confident with the AK series rifles," Central Reserve Police Force chief Dilip Trivedi told PTI.

The Director General, however, said INSAS will continue to remain in the force as CRPF has a multi-faceted role in the internal security domain of the country which includes dealing with law and order problems and conduct of elections among others.

Re: INSAS Rifle, LMG & Carbine

Few corrections >>

==========================

AK are issued only where 1B1 is not operationally effective that is over CT areas, Coz 1B1 is not a spray and pray firearm like an AK or a Carbine, Hence its use in CT environment is limited ..

CRPF, which is deployed for anti- Naxal operations, has decided to shun its standard weapon of combat, the indigenous INSAS rifle, and henceforth arm its troops exclusively with the AK series of assault rifles.
==========================

INSAS is family of Indian small arms, Correct name INSAS 1B1, The change of firearm is depend on terrain and environment ( "operationally suitable" ), AK-56 is not Russian ..

INSAS rifle was not proving to be as "operationally suitable" as the Russian made AK-47 and -56 series of combat rifles.
==========================

AKs are world`s most dumb and stupid firearm, not sophisticated which makes them actually user friendly ..

What on earth is ' Repair store ', More like armory where firearms are kept and maintain ..

after a technical and scientific comparison with the sophisticated AK rifles found that the latter was more effective.Field commanders of the force deployed in the anti-Naxal operations grid said they were increasingly sending the INSAS to the weapon repairs store of the force.

MUMBAI: Post 26/11 terror attacks, Mumbai cops' arsenal has been beefed up with advanced and sophisticated weapons.

These include rocket launchers, under barrel grenade launchers (UBGL), automatic grenade launchers (AGL), sniper rifles, mortars, projector grenades, corner shot weapons and cord-detonating explosives. That apart, cops have also got a large number of general weapons such as SLRs, AK-47s, Insas rifles, machine guns and stun guns.

This data has been procured by activist Chetan Kothari in response to a query under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
Kothari said the quantity of weapons, of both Indian and foreign make, shows the Mumbai police force is prepared to combat any terror-like situation. "The main question that arises now is whether the force is well-trained to handle such weapons. Also, whether the weapons will work properly during emergency," he said.

Mumbai police spokesperson DCP Mahesh Patil said the department has been using sophisticated weapons post 26/11. "These weapons provide the force with an added edge to combat any terror-like situation. Experts from companies that deliver these weapons train the force in using them," said Patil.

The RTI query revealed the city police have 14 rocket launchers, 391 grenade launchers, 44 mortar, eight sniper rifles, 29,373 SLRs, 3,975 AK-47s and 3,916 Insas rifles and over 4,000 machine and stun guns.

The department also purchased 4,500 bullet-proof jackets in a span of 11 months, between March 2011 and January 2012.

Maharashtra state inspector general (law and order) Deven Bharti told TOI: "After 26/11, the state government purchased rocket and grenade launchers, snipers and other advanced weapons. These highly sophisticated weapons are used by special forces such as the Anti-Naxal Force and Force One in Mumbai. Even cops from other important metros have got such weapons."
A senior IPS officer, who requested anonymity, said the city police had faced flak for using outdated arms to counter terrorists in the 26/11 attacks. "These sophisticated arms have been mainly procured from the US and Germany.

The new weapons include rocket and grenade launchers, sniper rifles apart from MP5, MP9 and colt firearms, which were only used by paramilitary forces, are now also with the city police," he said.

Post 26/11, immediate measures were taken to deal with emergency situations by arming city police with new combat vehicles, state-of-the-art weaponry and commandos trained in latest technique. "We have ensured we get the best weapons for our men. We have procured a few and will get more in the future," former Maharashtra state director general D Sivanandhan had said in August 2009.

Now why would the Mumbai police need rocket launchers and mortar, do they even a firing range big enough to practice using rocket launchers and mortar?

Is that a rocket launcher? Looks like a Carl-Gustav to me.
Yes Sir,that's an OFB made Carl Gustav Mk-2 84mm Anti Tank Grenade Launcher.Manipur Rifles was the first police force in India to have this weapon in their arsenal.Nowadays,it seems that this has become the weapon of choice of most of the anti-naxal special units of the state police forces like the Jharkhand Jaguar or the Chattisgarh S.T.F.:ranger:
