guys first of all DRDO cannot make anything unless services give their requirement, because of audit problem. now for pakistan no need to have SLBM for them as we have enough land to fire at her from 700 km range Agni 1 missile.

IN is no fool to have SLBM fire at Panda from this site (assumption)

Panda will have its entire navy doing aggressive petrol at this area, therefore comfort is on the second location with about 1200km-1400km range (hope SK wont mind use flying our nukes from their area if need be in worse case, all is fair in love and war). IN dont want to loose its nuke under water legs.

The K-15 is a naval version of the Shaurya and its range will be 700-1000 kms. Even the first Arihant will be armed with the K-15. Each Arihant can carry 12 K-15 missiles. And the SSBN version will be able to carry 4 K-4 missiles with a range of 3500+ kms. That is enough to hit Shanghai from somewhere near the coast of Brunei.
Shuarya range with no payload is 700km so anything more with a warhead is wet dreams. 500km is a realistic combat range. There is no reason to fantasy about dream missiles, you can hit Chinese coastal cities with Arihant. Their ASW is so bad they will never find it.

Making the first shot is easy, you can go even closer.

Making the shot off the Russian/DPRK coast would be the mistake. You want to start WWIII?

Shaurya's range with payload is 700 Km, the Agni SLBM is supposedly 3500 KM with a 2000kg warhead.

You have proof there was a payload on its 700km test? Most times they don't.

There are multiple news items available, if anything the usual Indian modus operandi has been to deliberately reduce the range for public consumption. Good Example is Agni series. check out the warhead weight.

Armand2REP,

I am almost certain it had a payload. It was not a bomb, perhaps a big piece of lead or iron or a chunk of concrete, however, it definitely had a payload. Testing without such payloads is meaningless.

Guys - seriously? Now we are discussing where from we can launch nukes at China? And we think the Korean coastline is a good idea?

If it is ever needed, then the ideal place will be the East China sea - whatever the range needs to be for the SLBMs. Probably around 750-900 kms.

Shaurya and Sagarika are two missiles that most get confused with. Apparently, Sagarika (K-15) is an underwater missile, hence will be used by Arihant subs and Shaurya is a overland SSM for IN ships as well as the IA. The K-15 can fly very well to a range of 700 km+ with a 500 kg warhead.

red circle area at sea is K14 launch site and black circle at sea is area K 5 launch site. Area between them is most possible launch site for Panda capital. Hope Panda dont have long range radar facing that site for worse case situation.

Shourya only carries a 17Kt warhead... why bother.
At 17 Kt, is about as big as little boy and can cause as big a devastation as Hiroshima - with far larger loss of life in a densely populated modern city.

I hope we never have to see a day like that again in any war.

Wow, a 500kg payload is going to have only 17kt yield? India did the nuke test to validate new designs and gather data for simulation.

As per recent report that was posted by Nitesh a few days back, india is looking at weapon yield of 250kt. Though that will be on re longer range Agni missiles but for Shourya I am sure it's going to be a minimum of 100kt.

What 17kt warhead ?? Read the data posted in the third link carefully before posting your crap !

Mk-4: For light weight 17Kt Fusion Boosted
Fission (FBF) warhead
Mass: ~180 Kg

Mk-5: For 50Kt FBF or 200Kt Thermo Nuclear
(TN) warhead
Mass: ~340 Kg

Mk-6: For 150Kt FBF warhead
Mass: ~550 Kg.

17 kt warhead has weight of 340 kgs. A 150 kt warhead will have a weight of 550 kgs. So when the payload is 500 kg+ it means it is carrying a 150 kt Fusion boosted Fission warhead !

These numbers are wrong or perhaps we aren't good enough yet, but I would say the numbers are misleading. The American warheads on Minuteman and Trident are less than 350Kgs(MIRV) and carry 475kT of explosive power each. A 450Kg payload on Shaurya should give us between 500kT and 700kT, but size matters as well and more importantly our capability to create such warheads and even more importantly the need for creating such big warheads.
