They can be modified as a cruise missile carrier(SSGN), but that's about it.
The 83MW reactor will not be enough to power a SSN with similar displacement as the INS Arihant which needs to make quick dashes in and out of the battlezone, chase down hostile SSBN and SSN, gather intel and get the hell out of the area.

Still haven’t achieved true Second Strike capability. That will be done only if one submarine is always on patrol at any point of time. Guess we will have that capability with 4 or 6 SSBN. Also Arihant is expected to become training vessel soon as soon as S4+ or S5 gets available

It has 6 torpedo tubes, it can fire missile without any modifications.

That's not how SSGN modification works mostly .they modify the silos so that instead of carrying a single nuclear missile they can carry several cruise missiles .Ohio class SSGN alone carries 154 tomahawks in 22 silos

1 silo in arihant can fit 3 k15 missile, so it may be able to fit 4 bramhos or 5 nirbhay considering their diameter (0.6 and 0.52). While k15 is 0.75 in diameter

We don’t have 3 yet. The third bigger boomer is still under construction. And also it’s an assumption Arighat is active. We haven’t heard any news of missile tests from Arighat yet though it’s possible it has already happened and operational. We don’t get much news about our boomers.
Best case scenario we have 2 of them. And it’s not really possible with 2 of them, one will be always on deterrence patrol all the time.

3-4 gives you 1 on patrol at any time max. 1 going on patrol, 1 on patrol, 1 returning from patrol and 1 in refit

with the SBLM limitations of india as of now the second strike capability at sea is very much still a work in progress.

I also think it’s debatable the second strike capability is truly viable without an equal number of SSN to provide escorts for the SSBNs, if you want to push the SSBN further from shore you risk leaving them exposed to enemy action

The mediocrity and lack of vision of Indian defence planners never fails to blow me away.

come 2040 Indian GDP will be >$18TN USD even at a modest ~1.5% defence spend that’s~$300bn a year defence budget and they’ll have at most 6 SSN, a comparable SSBN fleet, 12-18 SSK? That’s less than the PLAN has TODAY

Indian defence and political leadership thinking they can keep playing the odds and grow prosperity without the hard power to back it up will soon realise their folly

Keep waiting for another 2 years at minimum. The sacred elections are coming. The uneducated swine that stands as public representatives in this country's legislative council and parliament are physically and mentally incapable of seeing beyond vote bank politics. They have no vision.

It seems like Indian Navy wants a modified Barracuda Class SSN with a Russian OK 650B nuclear reactor due to the pump jet propulsion technology.

The French offer to India includes the overhauled design based on its Barracuda-class submarine for a new submarine class. This new submarine will feature pump-jet propulsion along with a 190 MW Pressurized water reactor which is currently being developed by state-owned nuclear company BARC in consultation with Russian state-owned companies

Seems like some small models of pump jet technology is already undergoing testing at the Warship Design Bureau.

So until pump jet propulsion technology matures to the point it can be used in Project 75A like DRDO's AIP, no construction will begin on the SSN barring an early CCS approval.
