There is also news of IAF going for 54 or 56 Rafale in similar G2G deal.
Not sure about authenticity of Both F/A-18 and Rafale deals.

Finally! FA-18 has been selected. I always knew it, FA-18 was the one which was going to get selected by the Indian Navy. FA-18 is best for the Indian Navy and Rafale is best for the IAF.

I hope that we Procure a few Growler Variants of the F/A-18 SH as well. Would prove to be a great addition. Australia already uses "Growlers".

What ever I have said is true if this is confirmed news, let's wait for further Confirmation.
Lets have a barter deal with US on this. We take F/A-18 and they take Tejas as part of their LIFT program.

This can only be said by someone who has nothing to loose because of sanctions on India.

Our economy will be ruined and our progress will be reversed by decades.
Not really. Neither India's "sins" are radical enough to get sanctioned by US nor India is as much dependent on west for trade as much is being shown here. It's not just that market is diverse. West doesn't invest in India out of favour but since they get the best deal in India's case. The dire situation due to China ensures that India won't be sanctioned unless it turns hostile to west itself.

Nor western countries themselves will have a consensus to ban India. Some of them might put embargoes while trade will continue with most. In fact trade will even continue with sanctioning country indirectly through other countries just like Indian exports are still being done to Pak via UAE.

So, it's more about quality of Russian stuff rather than political pressure.

Brahmos weights 3000kg not 3000 pounds and my replay is to vls requirement not weight and if you want to consider weight, the what about sam, barak8 around 300kg and their around or more than 1000kg.
Actually using multiple vls like Indian ones saves space, unlike single ones. Just consider vls cell for tomahawk, using same cell for quad pack essm cause wastage of space, also there is difference in length for vls, same vls with different length.
Yes 3000kg which is a lot. Most Western Navies carry missiles that only weight half of that. There is a penalty for having to carry such large heavy missiles.

INDIA TO BUY 26 FIGHTERS FOR INS VIKRANT ON G-2-G BASIS
INS Vikrant is presently undergoing sea-trials and is expected to be commissioned by PM Narendra Modi on August 15,2022

The carrier-based fighter acquisition by the Indian Navy will be part of a larger arrangement with the country selected as India is looking to manufacture fighter aircraft engines under the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” plan.

With the indigenous twin-engine deck-based fighter a decade away, the Narendra Modi government will be buying 26 carrier-based fighters for soon to be commissioned INS Vikrant on a government-to-government basis on the recommendation of the Indian Navy.

While the flight test trials of options French Rafale-Marine have already been conducted at the Indian Navy’s shore-based test facility in Goa this January, the trials of US F-18 super hornet are expected to be completed by June 15. Out of the 26 aircraft, the Indian Navy wants 8 twin seater trainers, which can also be used in combat conditions. Both the fighters are virtually of same vintage and both the manufacturers have maintenance, repairs, and overhaul facilities in India.

Both the aircraft have undergone intensive trials at the test facility in Goa but have not landed on India’s sole aircraft carrier, INS Vikramaditya, as it is under major maintenance in Karwar and expected to start sailing later in June. India’s indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant is undergoing sea trials and is expected to be commissioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15, 2022.

According to South Block officials, India is not looking to lease fighters for INS Vikrant but will go for outright G-to-G purchase of the deck-based fighters from either French Dassault or US Boeing, based on the evaluation of Indian Navy’s aviation wing. Both the companies have dealt with the Indian Air Force with Dassault selling Rafale fighters and Boeing selling P8I anti-submarine warfare platform, Chinook helicopters and C-17 heavy lift aircraft. The two aircraft have proven track records with F-18 being tested in Afghan and Iraq wars by the US Navy.

The carrier-based fighter deal is expected to be linked with a larger strategic arrangement with the country involved as New Delhi is looking for aircraft engine manufacturing under the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative with the participation of Indian private sector companies. While French Safran is keen to manufacture 100 kilo newton engines with Indian entities without any pre-conditions, Defence Ministry is also exploring the same with the US as the GE-404 engine is used in the indigenous Tejas fighter and GE-414 being considered for the twin engine advanced multi-role combat aircraft (AMCA) project of the DRDO.

~36000cr worth of ships are for IN, including NGC.
MDL expects (read "hopes") the RFP will be released by late 2022.

NGC was said to be worth 15000cr & include 7 hulls, ~2150cr per hull (which was v cheap IMO)...if the reports of 36000cr for 8 are true..the current est. price is around 4500cr (which includes the cost related to the project, not just the hulls & subsystems).

Its time we start dropping that obsolete cost per hull metric. Lead Boats of any new ship class will always cost a bomb compared to the boats that'll follow it. An example being the US' FFG-62 program, where in the lead boat will cost upto $795 million but follow on boats will see their cost of successive hulls go down below $650-700 million maybe even reaching $600-650 million if a high degree of standardization and no developmental hiccups occur.

IN SELF-RELIANCE PUSH, INDIA CLEARS MILITARY PURCHASES WORTH ₹76,390 CRORE
New Delhi:
In the latest push to self-reliance in defence, India on Monday cleared the purchase of indigenous military hardware worth ₹76,390 crore to sharpen the country’s combat capabilities with next-generation warships, wheeled armoured fighting vehicles with anti-tank guided missiles, weapon locating radars and bridge-laying tanks, the defence ministry announced.

The defence acquisition council (DAC) – India’s apex procurement body – accorded its acceptance of necessity (AoN) for the capital acquisition proposals. Under India’s defence procurement rules, AoN by the council, headed by defence minister Rajnath Singh, is the first step towards buying military hardware.

The proposals have been greenlit by DAC under acquisition categories that seek to promote self-reliance in the defence manufacturing sector.

“This will provide substantial boost to the Indian defence industry and reduce foreign spending significantly,” the ministry said.

Next-generation corvettes for the navy will cost around ₹36,000 crore and will be used for surveillance missions, escort operations, search and attack, deterrence, and coastal defence, officials said.

“These corvettes will be based on a new in-house design of the Indian Navy using latest technology, and would contribute to further the government’s initiative of SAGAR (Security and Growth for all in the Region),” the ministry said.

The other proposals cleared by DAC include the procurement of additional Dornier aircraft, Sukhoi Su-30MKI aero-engines and a project for digitisation in the coast guard.

India has imposed a phased ban on the import of 310 different types of weapons and systems, including next-generation corvettes, during the last two years to boost self-reliance.

The military hardware sought to be indigenised covers light weight tanks, naval utility helicopters, artillery guns, missiles, loitering munitions, missile destroyers, ship-borne cruise missiles, light combat aircraft, light transport aircraft, long-range land-attack cruise missiles, basic trainer aircraft, multi-barrel rocket launchers, assault rifles, sniper rifles, specified types of helicopters, and airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) systems.

The ongoing Russia-Ukraine crisis has exposed India’s overwhelming dependence on imported weaponry, especially from Russia, and India’s military and strategic planners are grappling with issues such as how the war could affect the country’s military readiness, alternatives for sourcing military hardware and speeding up the indigenisation drive to become self-reliant.

The chief takeaways from the Russia-Ukraine conflict include the urgent need for diversification of weapon purchases, maximum possible indigenisation of spares and sub-systems to keep Russian-origin equipment serviceable, and, most importantly, staying laser-focused on achieving Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) to meet India’s growing defence needs, as previously reported.

Where Will The Money Go?

Next-generation corvettes for a variety of naval missions
Specialist vehicles with anti-tank guided missiles
Weapon locating radars to detect hostile artillery
Tanks capable of launching bridges
More Dornier aircraft for maritime surveillance

Now I get why the GoI is so reluctant to buy more submarines and Rafales from France. They don't want to be held hostage to exorbitant price gouging by the French people.
If you are thinking that French suppliers' deals are ridiculous, try American': they are even worse.

Amreeki engines, i guess. Also, would it be safe to say that after p17a most of the IN ships would use modular construction.
