Navy team reaches U.S. for training on MH-60R helicopters

A team of 18 Navy personnel reached the U.S. for training on the MH-60R multi-role helicopters, 24 of which were contracted in a $2.2-billion deal signed during the visit of then President Donald Trump in February 2020.

“Three helicopters are scheduled to be delivered to the Navy next month which will be used for training in the U.S. The first batch is likely to arrive in India by June 2022,” a defence official said. Training of the first batch of aircrew and technical crew, will commence at Pensacola, Florida and San Diego, the official said.

MoD signs contract with GSL for construction of two Pollution Control Vessels for Indian Coast Guard

Posted On: 22 JUN 2021 2:23PM by PIB Delhi

Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) for construction of two Pollution Control Vessels (PCVs) for Indian Coast Guard (ICG) at a cost of about Rs 583 crore, on June 22, 2021. These Special Role ships will be indigenously designed, developed and built by GSL. The acquisition is under ‘Buy Indian - Indigenously Designed Developed & Manufactured (Buy Indian-IDDM)’, the highest priority category for defence capital procurements. The acquisition will significantly augment the capability of ICG to respond to Oil spill disasters at sea and also enhance Pollution Response (PR) efficiency. These two vessels are scheduled for delivery by November 2024 and May 2025 respectively.

At present, ICG has three PCVs in its fleet at Mumbai, Visakhapatnam and Porbander to carry out dedicated Pollution Surveillance, Oil spill monitoring/Response operations in Indian EEZ and around islands. The new PCVs planned are for pollution response requirements in Eastern and the ecologically sensitive Andaman & Nicobar Regions. The vessels, with capability of operating helicopter onboard, will have many advanced features with modern PR equipment of niche technology for containing, recovering and dispersing of marine oil spill.

While meeting the objectives of AatmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, the contract would further boost the indigenous shipbuilding capability and increase employment opportunities in the shipbuilding sector that involves around 200 MSME vendors.

But this image have all four fitted ,means that those two out of it are maybe for some modifications or for reload 😉 , looks like ad 1 , ad 2 test are coming soon
Possible....im more interested in the radar than any missile tbh....i think any bmd will tested from land first before before putting it on a ship

The target missiles would be flying from the vessel instead of BMD missile.
That would severly limit the type and range of the target.SLS's can carry upto 7 tons ....ad1 and ad2 need to be tested against heavier missiles

Heavier missiles???

BMD would not intecept missiles. They would intercept the warheads. We have already tested them against Prithvi missiles of 4 Ton weight category.

Ad 1 and ad 2 has been tested?...i am specifically talking about those here and can smaller missiles like prithvi or say shaurya simulate flight path of missiles with longer ranges?

Be it AD1, AD2 or PDV AAD or any other BMD system, they are made to intercept the RV, not the whole missile. So a missile weigh a 5 ton or 50 ton doesn't matter. What matters is the range and the reentry path the RV would take.

Re entry characteristics of warheads of missile of different throw weights are different.
Prithvi rather Dhanush has been used as a target missile, it has been used to mimic the trajectory/ flight path of missile/s with upto 1000/ 1500 km range.

What he ( the poster) wants to say is, if you are to test your BMD against a 5000km target missile. The missile used to mimic the flight path of that 5000 km missile may have a all up weight of more than 7000 kg ( limited by ship based deployment). How such problem will be addressed?

Not really.

Lets consider a simple comparison here. A5 and DF-4 does have a near about same range of 5500 km (!). But the weight of A5 is around 50 ton as oppose to 80 ton of DF-4.
Now the flight trajectory of both the missiles to obtain its optimal range would be same. Prithvi missiles are SRBM which were used to mimic the flight path of a MRBM. So a SRBM, MRBM, IRBM/ ICBM would have its own predicted flight path.

Yes, that's what I am asking, what is the limitation of using Prithvi to mimic the target missile.
Or if I may reword it, can Prithvi be used to mimic re-entry vehicle from an IRBM also?
