Need more destryer on codag and 64 vls , use visakhapatnam Design for a bigger order , you can't win a war with resources wastage
A 64-80 VLS ship will only be realised when the Kolkata/Vizag class DDG will get refitted with VL-SRSAM during their MLU, Barak 8 is way too expensive, those 32 missile cells cost almost 1/4 the entire cost of the ship.
I think the Navy should really order 5 more 7500ton destroyers under Project 15C with enhancements over Project 15B and modular construction similar to Project 17A to arrest downfall in fleet nos.
You cannot win a war over PLAN with just cutting edge tech, you need numbers aswell.

Why not develop akash ng varuant for vls with booster ,will cater almost 120 km ,if not 150 of barak 8 er , indian so cheaper , and can be used in large number , also barak 8 and akash ng are of similar weight class akash ng being heavier so , performance would obviously being better as dual pulse is drdo in both .

Current version is inclined one but a vl can be developed , brahmos too have both versions , and same vls can be used for both missile , just need some modifications .

Also mf star is expensive and we have dual face mf fcr , for ship 20 , it can be used for that , just will is required and we have almost everything except few subsystem for a good medium weight destroyer

where did you get the idea that barak 8 system alone costs 1/4 th the cost of ship?

A Barak 8 VLS system(missiles+control systems) costs around $180-200 million, so incase of P17A frigate almost 1/5 the ship's cost and 1/6 in case of P15B destroyers in 2020 money.
So I am wrong in case of quoting the 1/4 figure but Barak 8 still costs a significant chunk

Are there any chances of Indian Navy ordering more ships of the Kolkata/Vizag class under a follow on project?

dig up Navy’s Long term perspective plan related info, should be there somewhere here at DFI.

over and above that plan, they want 6 new nuclear submarines. Let’s see if it gets approved.

calm down mate, to presume that a defence forum knows more than military professionals is hubris.
Yeah ,they have to divert fund for maintenance , replenishment , overhaul , exercises and a lot other things .

And who knows ,they might already have some design ready but a approval might be pending , s 5 Design is too in works , and that isn't some sarkari babu office that info will be out easily , neither they are authorized to .

INS Rajput to be Decommissioned on 21 May 21

Posted On: 20 MAY 2021 2:04PM by PIB Delhi

On the 21st of May, a glorious era will come to an end with the decommissioning of the first destroyer of the Indian Navy - INS Rajput. INS Rajput, the lead ship of the Kashin-class destroyers built by the erstwhile USSR was commissioned on 04 May 1980 and has rendered yeoman service to the Indian Navy for over 41 years. INS Rajput will now be decommissioned at a solemn ceremony at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam. Owing to the ongoing COVID pandemic, the ceremony will be a low-key event attended only by in-station officers and sailors with strict observance of COVID protocols.

INS Rajput was constructed in the 61 Communards Shipyard in Nikolaev (present-day Ukraine) under her original Russian name ‘Nadezhny’ meaning ‘Hope’. The keel of the ship was laid on 11 Sep 1976 and she was launched on 17 Sep 1977. The ship was commissioned as INS Rajput on 04 May 1980 at Poti, Georgia by His Excellency Shri IK Gujral, the Ambassador of India to USSR with Capt Gulab Mohanlal Hiranandani as her first Commanding Officer. Over her four decades of glorious service to the nation, the ship has the distinction of serving in both Western and Eastern Fleets.

With the motto “Raj Karega Rajput” firmly etched in their minds and indomitable spirit, the gallant crew of INS Rajput have remained ever vigilant and always ‘on call’ to protect the maritime interest and sovereignty of the nation. The ship has participated in several operations aimed at keeping the nation secure. Some of these include Operation Aman off Sri Lanka to assist IPKF, Operation Pawan for patrolling duties off the coast of Sri Lanka, Operation Cactus to resolve hostage situation off the Maldives, and Operation Crowsnest off Lakshadweep. In addition, the ship participated in numerous bilateral and multi-national exercises. The ship was also the first Indian Naval Ship to be affiliated with an Indian Army regiment – the Rajput Regiment.

In her glorious 41 years, the ship had 31 Commanding Officers at her helm with the last CO taking charge of the ship on 14 Aug 2019. As the sun sets on 21 May 21, the Naval Ensign and the Commissioning Pennant will be hauled down for the last time onboard INS Rajput, symbolising the decommissioning.

Vishakhapatnam will be inducted by year end.

Also Nilgiri class though classified as frigate is as big as destroyers . Much bigger than rajputs.
Upcoming 4 talwar class frigate have almost same displacement as rajputs.

Numbers should always come with cheaper cost, hopefully we are seeing the last of imports like barak if we were to believe what DRDO is putting out in terms of pictures and what not of homegrown stuff....if not then its BS

I hope its not send to the scrap yard.

Cuz its got a lot of history on it. Hope its handed over to some port museum so that future generation kiddos can visit and feel inspired.
