Variable Depth sonar is more advanced version of towed array - it be used at varying depth unlike towed array which usually stay at ship level while being towed.

INS Sindhukesari to sail back from Zvyezdochka shipyard in Russia after second MRLC in October 2018. The boat, now armed with 3M-54E ASCM & 3M-14E LACM, will be good for another 10 years.

CSL while periodic refit of Vikramaditya. Didnt know that the entire crew stays at/near the shipyard doing refit and shipyard has to upgrade its facilities to accomodate them

"Another point of anxiety and a major concern, which was repeatedly discussed in all meetings, was the availability and hygienic condition of toilet facilities. This was taken up as major challenge and a concentrated efforts were put in by the agencies involved. Firstly all the toilet complexes in and around the repair dock was identified, earmarked and numbered for INS Vikramaditya. All toilets were given facelift including total renovation of few along with painting and upkeep of the surroundings. Additional containerized toilets were also brought in to cater for such a huge ship company. The cleaning pattern was completely changed with innovative ideas and manning round the clock to meet highest standards of hygiene during INS Vikramaditya stay was organized. The cooking and the dining facility of a ship company consisting of 90 Officers and more than 1100 sailors within CSL was addressed for the first time in CSL. Additional dining facility was setup on top of the north canteen including upkeep and maintenance of existing galley at ground floor. Separate area for additional washing machines, water coolers etc were also provided along with north galley. The entire ship company was transported from the shipyard to their residential accommodation in more than 30 vehicles without causing any hindrance to the public through M.G Road and Thevara Junction during the peak hours was another example of the coordinated effort of the Shipyard. The entry and exit of all the VVIP's, VIPs, OEM representatives and various contractors working on Vikramaditya was conducted smoothly without any aberrations, which was expected while handling such large crowd. This is one of such event where several uncertainties and anxieties were put to rest with dedicated and collective team work with professionalism leading to achieving several records. Maximum tonnage of the vessel, maximum draft of the vessel, maximum length of the vessel and above all INS Vikramaditya in any Indian Shipyard for the First time and the list is much more. I should say this is yet another example of CSL Magic of team work."

The crew stays with the ship from the time of launch to its decommissioning. Its partly tradition and partly pragmatism. The crew help out during docking/undocking and in the overall general maintenance too since they are the ones who know which areas need extra attention, any faults that occurred during operational deployment, etc, etc...

What are those brown colored ships doing in main Navy docks. they are warships but seem incomplete/uncolored. Any reasons why??

That's the true colour of the steel plates. And yeah, thats rust. maintaining ships is tough in warm water seas, especially ones that are as saline as the Indian Ocean.

The first looks to be Gomati/Brahmaputra class. The second looks like a Talwar class.

I know that. I meant why aren't those at shipyards for maintenance.
Does the Navy dockyard do maintenance? Like Coloring etc. Bcoz that paint looks deliberately scraped off.

Hope Karwar gets new piers soon and a two parallel runway airbase Mumbai dockyard seems like an ant infront of Karwar and Vishakhapatnam dockyard.

Btw Varsha seems to be in full accelerator mode;p

Could it be INS Betwa that got overturned during launch from dry dock?

The naval dockyard does indeed do the periodic maintenance. Major mid life upgrades and refits are carried out at Mazgaon and other ship builders.

Karwar's shipyard is huge. There is a picture online of the Delhi lifted up onto land using a ship lift at Karwar. That's how capable that shipyard is.

Once Kadamba becomes fully ops, we'll have no problem pushing build numbers to 4-5 major units every year.

@NeXoft007 there is no P15B-4 as of now. The keel hasn't been laid yet, that covered room must be where scorpene are booted up.

The DDG that you have listed as #4 is actually #3 and #4 will be laid by next year once #3 will be launched.

Let's agree with you for a moment.

Can you please give me any news that shows keel laying ceremony of 2nd, 3rd and 4th scorpene? I can see frontal hull of 4th Kalvari-class submarine but still can't see any news of its keel laying ceremony.

If proven wrong, I will ask a moderator to delete my posts.
