Let the CAG report 14- 15 come and there is going to some more Dhamaka.

In my view the user is entitled to have an accountability commission on MoD, OFB , DRDO and DPSUs....

It is best post recent articles than reposing year old articles which support your claims of present, , Btw i am still waiting for your reply ....

Getting personal with mod will only get you infraction and will get you more if complain about it under warning ..

Pinaka Mark-II Rocket Successfully Test-Fired

An advanced version of the indigenously developed Pinaka Mark-II rocket was successfully test-fired today from Army's Chandan firing range near Pokhran using a multi-barrel launcher. "Pinaka Mark-II trials were successfully tested in Pokhran field firing range near Indo-Pak border. Target was successfully hit in Keru area which was situated 55 km from the firing point," said the Defence sources. Jointly developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation and the Indian Army, this multi-barrel rocket launcher has high operational mobility, flexibility and accuracy as the major characteristics, which give the weapon an edge in modern artillery warfare for the Indian Armed Forces. According to the sources "the ongoing developmental trials at Pokhran range in western Rajasthan by Army and scientists of DRDO was to test the advance stage of development of Pinaka Mark-II weapon system with upgraded version of software". The development and trials will continue and the rocket is expected to enter service any time now, they said. Pinaka-I has already been inducted into the Army and was also put into field testing for assessing its capability during the Kargil war. Its quick reaction time and high rate of fire gives an edge to the Army during low-intensity warlike situation. The system is capable to incorporate several types of warheads. "Pinaka Mark-II rocket with a range of more than 60-km is capable of acting as a force- multiplier and was developed to supplement artillery guns and is currently passing through a phase of testing," said the Defence sources.

I was expecting pinaka 2 to have greater range ? It was suppose to be along the lines of Israeli Lora. Israelis were also suppose to have been involved?

This is Pinaka Mk2. Pinaka 2 with 120km range is under development, I think.
Pinaka 2 will be a deadly weapon india can have. I think that once india gets its BMD operationalized,USA will offer its BMD systems to Pakistan. Pinaka 2 with 120 kms range can negate any BMD by bombarding too many rockets into their cities which is pretty much near boundries. if pinaka 2 can launch decoys to defeat air defense systems,it will be double bonanza.

There is no chance in hell US is giving Pak BMD. It is a very high tech system and Pak do not qualify.

The rationale of post 9-11 military aid is to provide enough equipment of decent quality to keep them somewhat satisfied with their conventional prowess and not go nuclear from the onset in a war. It not just goes for F-16 but every other thing.

US providing BMD to Pak will entail that India will spend more on it's nuclear capabilities something US is not particularly fond of. Although, China may or already have provided with its copy of S-300 PMU. But is a outdated system with limited BMD capabilities and will be very useless in an Indo-Pak war.

We were discussing about Pinaka -2 or Pinaka mk3. Don't get confused. I have already mentioned about the 68 km(max) range as per the design in one of my earlier post.

Mk3 will have G3OM or other form of satellite based guidance to have improved accuracy.

Pinaka 2 which has 68km in range is just up-gradation of present Pinaka 1, The most notable change is the rockets which have GPS / INS guidance ..

With this, The rocket are more precision guided ammunition than just dumb rockets in salvos, The overall upgrade is more for precision than long range ..

Imho, Prahaar is design to take place of BM-30 ..

GPS Antenna: Increased application of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) for navigational aids, necessitated the development of low profile antennas. Two types of low profile antennas, viz., Wraparound Microstrip Antenna for Pinaka Rocket and Quadrifilar Helix Antenna for manpack GPS have been developed by DRDO. The development of GPS antenna for Pinaka, along with its feed network, is a challenging task as it requires antenna to be conformal with the cylindrical body of the rocket. Quadrifilar Helix Antenna is one of the preferred antennas for GPS application owing to its smaller size and cardioid pattern.

Minmum production rate of 5000 rockets per year, maximum plant capacity of 25000-30000 rockets annually. Expect numbers to hover around 15000-18000 per year in the coming years.

Sundaresh said the DRDO was developing the Mark II version of Pinaka, the multi-barrel rocket launcher that fires the Pinaka rockets. While the rocket Pinaka-I has a 10 km to 38 km range, Pinaka-II will have a range of 60 km. Ordnance Factory Board will be producing 5000 Pinaka Mark IIs in the first year. If OFB uses it's full capacity it should be able to make 20,000 to 30,000 per year.

Pinaka Mark 2 to enter Production 2015

After Pinaka Mark 2 rockets were successfully test fired from a multi-barrel rocket launcher this year from Experimental Establishment (PXE) at Chandipur firing range. DRDO plans to start production of the Rocket systems by end of 2015 .

Earlier this year 6 rockets were tested successfully , Pinaka mark-2 has the same dimensions as its predecessor, but its range will up to 68 km, as compared to Mark-1"²s 39 km. advanced version Mark-II rockets with a range of more than 68 km, will be capable of acting as a force-multiplier and was developed to supplement artillery guns, quick reaction time and high rate of fire of the system will give an edge to the Army during a low-intensity conflict situation.

The Pinaka system with a battery of six launchers could fire a salvo of 12 rockets in 44 seconds and could neutralise a target area of 3.9 sq km. DRDO also plans to develop longer Pinaka 2 or MK 3 which will have longer range and will supplement Russian supplied Smerch multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS) , TOT for which was denied by Russia to India .

Pinaka II trial successful: DRDO

Jodhpur: Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune, a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) laboratory has ended the year with a bang in Jaisalmer, adding to the success story of the premier defence research establishment. The three-day-long User Assisted Trials (in this case Indian Army) of the much-awaited Pinaka II, a complete multi-barrel rocket launcher (MBRL) system with a range of 60 km, have been successfully completed as per the DRDO officials.Range of Pinaka II is 20 km more than the Pinaka I version, which has a 40 km range and has already been inducted into the forces.

DRDO officials revealed that after the successful development trials of 60 km range Pinaka II rocket systems, the same were being manufactured in huge quantities in production lines. Sources revealed that the same have been handed over to the Army as per its projected demand meeting the timeframe of December 2015. "And now, the user assisted trials have been completed successfully in Pokhran in the past three days or so," said an official pleading anonymity about these covert trials marking a glorious year end for DRDO as well as the Army . Pinaka has been indigenously developed by ARDE, Pune, a DRDO laboratory .

Interestingly , the `submunition warheads', amongst the eight different kinds of warheads for Pinaka, successfully tested during advanced development trials for Pinaka I in Pokhran field firing range in Rajasthan during June 2015, paved way for it to be used in Pinaka II as well.These act as a force-multiplier while supplementing the artillery guns as well.Pinaka, the indigenous unguided rocket system which has been undergoing extensive testing since the past 20 years is capable of neutralising large areas with rapid salvos. Having proven its mettle during Kargil war while neutralising the mountain peaks off the enemy , Pinaka akes pride in its low cost vis-a-vis other such rocket systems in the world bestowed with shoot and scoot capabilities.

Meanwhile, `proof trials' for the production lots of Pinaka I wherein random Pinakas are picked up to test the performance standards of a specific lot were also conducted here as per the officials. `Inhouse' or the `technical trials', actually a part of the developments trials for Pinaka II have been completed in two phases ncluding the first phase in Balasore for checking the range and the second one at Pokhran for checking the accuracy and consistency in performance levels.

DRDO officials disclosed that not only the number of Pinaka rockets to be manufactured is being increased in production lines to cater for the Army's projected needs aimed at giving boost to concerned regiments but even the strike capability in terms of an even longer range for Pinaka II is in pipeline. ARDE and other DRDO officials were present along with the Indian Army officials during these trials at Pokhran.

Pinaka can carry a payload of more than 100 kg

Pinaka battery consists of six launchers, each equipped with 12 rockets. Capable of carrying a payload of more than 100 kg, Pinaka went into development in 1986 and production in 1998. Having proven its mettle during Kargil, indigenous Pinaka MBRL mounted on a Tatra truck can act as a force-multiplier as an Area Weapon System while firing a salvo of 12 High Explosive (HE) rockets in 44 seconds and neutralizing a marked area of 3.9 sq km. This thermo-baric ammunition has become even more lethal while being able to operate from a mobile launcher at extreme temperature ranges of -10 degrees Celsius to 55 degrees Celsius or so, with a quicker reaction time and capability to carry various kinds of warheads. The MBRL system can work in various modes including autonomous mode while being controlled by a fire control computer, standalone mode, manual mode or remote mode etc.

We should remove BM-21 from the truck and place it on the T-72 Like russian TOS-1 so that they can be easily be used in desert with ease.............
