After wasting so much money on the Mirage going the French route for it's upgrade, they have nothing left for the Mirage, it's a pity, Israeli plan for IAF Mirage upgrade was cheaper and also had AESA, Python-5 and other cool goodies in it.
The Mirage 2000 upgrade from the French offers far more benefits than the Israeli offer, the inclusion of the modula data processing unit (MDPU) and other avionics will see the IAF Mirages to be highly compatible with the IAF's Rafales that will be coming soon.

Only 2 other fighter aircraft in the world have MDPUs- the Rafale and the F-22.

It is a total myth the Mirage upgrade was a waste of money.

F-35's have it too, anyways such modules could have been included in the package even if Israel did the upgrade.

Flight of Jaguar DARIN III with AESA Radar soon: HAL

https://**********/attachments/upload_2017-2-18_9-27-43-png.377979/
idrw.org has been informed at Aero India 2017 that, HAL and ELTA have completed ground trials, integration and installation of Elta’s ELM-2052 AESA radar on upgraded Jaguar DARIN III aircraft and first flight of Jaguar could be conducted after Aero India 2017 concluded HAL employee to idrw.org.

Indian Air force’s main Strike aircraft Jaguar under DARIN III upgrade will be getting 28 new sensors, which will also see the integration of indigenous mission computer. ELM-2052 AESA radar on Jaguar DARIN III makes Jaguar fleet first aircraft to receive Next Generation AESA Radar technologies which will keep them technologically relevant for next decade to come.

IAF plans to keep Jaguar DARIN III flying till 2034 and has made necessary arrangements with BAE and HAL to maintain their supply chain till 2034 when it plans to retire them. HAL is also exploring the possibility of uprating it’s 25 kN indigenous Aero Engine (Hindustan Turbo Fan Engine – HTFE 25) to 35kN-40kN thrust class so that it can be offered for Jaguar DARIN III engine replacement program.

HAL employee has confirmed to idrw.org at Aero India 2017 that offering new indigenous Turbo Fan Engine for Jaguar is under active consideration but priority is to replace Russian-supplied NPO Saturn AL-55 turbofan engine which is used to power HAL’s HJT-36 Sitara Indian jet trainer with higher thrust class HTFE 25 engines.

Thanks for the update but I meant was the technologies that we developed during LCA/LCH like gun controlled by helmet or the composite parts which make it sleather or engines which are more reliable...I was not aware that such things.. If they are happening I am happy; but, if you can update me I will be happy. Thanks.

At a high level, things done on jaguar cannot be done on mig-29 upgrade primarily because jaguars are no longer produced which is not the case with mig29. Because they are no longer produced there was compulsion for us to do something about it, and Russians are very stingy at giving ToT(can't fault them at that).

Overall indigenous tech is getting more exposure only in last two years, it will be gradual year on year.

For specific info, you need to dig into the various threads. There is plethora of info on the forum.

This forum is one of the Indian modern military historian by itself after all.

IAF Jaguar DARIN-III Flies With New AESA Radar

Reference Image

BENGALURU: Test pilots at defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) flew for the first time an upgraded Jaguar fighter aircraft fitted with an AESA(active electronically scanned array) radar.

The Jaguar Darin III, which HAL is upgrading for the Indian Air Force (IAF), will now boast of the state-of-the-art AESA radar and improved features like multi target tracking frequency agility, higher bandwidth of operation, interleaved modes of operation, higher accuracies and resolution.

HAL and Israeli firm ELTA, whose radar the defence PSU has fitted the Jaguar with, had completed the ground trials in February. Apart from the AESA radar, the aircraft will also be equipped with 28 new sensors, among other things.

With all the new features, the Jaguar Darin III is expected to serve the IAF for at least another decade. The IAF, which has been struggling to keep up its fighter plane strength at the desired level was satisfied with the initial upgrade plan and the aircraft had received the IOC (initial operational clearance) in November 2016.

"The upgrade incorporates new state-of-the-art avionics architecture including the Open System Architecture Mission Computer (OSAMC), Engine and Flight Instrument System (EFIS), Fire Control Radar, Inertial Navigation System with GPS and Geodetic height correction, etc," HAL said.

It added that the plane will also boast of Solid State Digital Video Recording System (SSDVRS), Solid State Flight Data Recorder (SSFDR), Smart Multi-Function Display (SMD), Radio Altimeter with 20,000 ft range, Autopilot with Alt Select and Identification of Friend or Foe (IFF).

Why this AESA equipped Jaguar is meant to Hunt Chinese and Pakistani Warships
Published August 11, 2017 SOURCE: VINAYAK SHETTY / FOR MY TAKE / IDRW.ORG

First AESA Equipped Jaguar aircraft with tail number JM255 made its first flight yesterday. This particular aircraft belongs to IAF’s Maritime Strike No-6 Dragons Squadron based in Lohegaon Airbase just outside Pune, which is specially tasked to carry out Anti-Ship operations in the Arabian sea. Jaguar Maritime (JM) Strike Squadron consists of 12 Jaguar aircraft which are now getting Darin III upgrade and each aircraft will be equipped with AESA radar, Glass cockpit, Higher capacitor alternators, Helmet Mounted Display, Integrated Defensive aid suite, New mission computers along with new software upgrade along with Tarang Radar warning receiver. Jaguar Maritime is now equipped with American supplied Harpoon Block-II Anti ship missile which has a range of nearly 124kms and also can be used to carry out land strike missions if required. Jaguar Maritime is also equipped with Inflight refuelling probe which allows them to patrol Arabian sea for longer duration and the pilots are also trained by Indian Naval aviators for all their operations over the sea. While almost all Indian air force fighter fleet can perform all Anti Ship missions over high sea and several Sukhoi-30 Squadrons are also regularly trained to carryout Anti ship missions over the sea but Jaguar Maritime Strike Squadron is only special dedicated Squadron marked for operations over the sea which in sync works with Indian Naval aviation to hunt for rival warships which are moving closer to Indian waters . IAF operates 100 + Jaguar Strike (JS) and Jaguar Trainer (JT) aircraft out of 48 newer built Jaguars will receive Darin III upgrade along with 12 Jaguar Maritime (JM) so that it can be kept in operation till 2034 and beyond. ELTA-2052 AESA Fire Control Radar has excellent Sea Search and tracking capabilities and Multi-targeting capabilities which will enhance Jaguar Maritime (JM) Strike capabilities.
