No, earlier date for manned test was late 2023 now delayed to early 2024.
Unmanned Gaganyaan will take place in 2022 as was planned.
So unmanned Gaganyaan is on track whereas the manned Gaganyaan has been delayed by only 1 year. Not a big deal I would say, let's hope they don't delay it anymore.

It looks like two projects that were pushed back to 2023, have now been moved forward. Unmanned Gaganyaan, and Chandrayaan-3, both scheduled to take off by the end of 2022.

Meanwhile, hoping for an announcement any day now, about the SSLV- D1.

No, unmanned Gaganyaan G1 already delayed to 2023, this year only 2 inflight abort tests

Not a big deal IMO. A lot of work is to be done from IDRSS to testing full scale spacecraft.
A delayed successful mission is better than dead astronauts that would bring national shame.

ISRO plans Gaganyaan test demonstration by December
Several tests are under way for crew module, crew escape system, electronics, intelligence, software: ISRO chief S. Somanath
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has planned to launch the Gaganyaan test vehicle for a crew abort mission this year, its Chairman S. Somanath said here on Saturday.
“Several tests are under way for crew module, crew escape system, electronics, intelligence, software at many centres. We are developing a crew module, a training module, astronaut training, display systems, crew training facilities and simulators. This year, we aim to demonstrate a crew escape system, which is the first step. Next year, we will do an unmanned crew mission and recover the module. Then we will again test crew escape systems two times with improvements based on observation. Currently, we are targeting a human space flight in 2023,” he said during his visit to the Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences.
Mr. Somanath said, “Primarily, ISRO has been the only space agency [in India]. So they [the Central government] want private entities to come in not only as suppliers of space items but also as those who build rockets, satellites and applications on their own and operate them.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June announced a space policy. The ISRO Chairman said that under the Space Policy 2022, “we would allow private entities to own and operate satellites. This is a very big change. All the satellites of India are currently owned only by ISRO. And every television broadcasting channel is linked only through ISRO, and this is going to change.”
“This will change not only communication but also remote-sensing. Private entities can own imaging satellites, they can take photographic images, they can use value-added products...” he added.
He said complete ownership would be allowed for Indian companies and foreign direct investments would be allowed up to 70%; government approval will be required for investments over and above the ceiling. “Private entities can design, develop and launch [rockets and satellites] also. They can launch from Sriharikota. We will provide a launchpad or they can build a new launchpad.”
“All this will create more markets and avenues in the space sector; that is our goal,” said Mr. Somanath, who is also the Secretary of the Department of Space.
He said, “We are also planning a GSLV Mark III launch — for a commercial launch for the first time — for a web satellite in September or October this year. The agency plans a Small Satellite Launch Vehicle for private companies this year and the first launch will be at the end of July or the beginning of August. After this development, ISRO will not operate [the satellite]. We will transfer the operation to the private industry,” he said.
Two PSLV launches and a NavIC (Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System) satellite launch by the GSLV are planned before December, he said.
On the new spaceport at Kulasekarapattinam in Tamil Nadu, he told The Hindu that land acquisition was under way and the State government had handed over 2,000 acres to ISRO. “We are in the process of securing it and we must also get many approvals and we have to tender out the facility for construction. It will take 24 months to build the whole facility...”
When asked about the Agniveer scheme, he told reporters that “Agniveer will be very useful to protect our nation and ISRO is working on rockets and satellites to protect our nation. One can find the connection there. Like every other institution that will recruit Agniveer after four years, ISRO will also employ them.”

Man, its so frustrating tbh, they earlier said that there would be 2 inflight abort tests this year....1st test was supposed to happen this month followed by the 2nd one in oct....later this was changed to 1st test in sept & 2nd test in December....now they pushed the 1st test to December.....why can't they announce the launch date when they are fully ready, instead of this "end of the month or beginning of next month", " End of this year or early next year", " mid next year", "end of next year" statements....it's just bad PR and makes people to lose confidence in them & destroys their credibility.

It is actually surprising that they said they are planning a test this year. It was announced last month that there could not be any Gaganyaan test this year.

Please watch the C-53 post launch press conference which I posted earlier in ISRO thread and also read that annual report, they clearly said there will be 2 inflight abort tests this year, only now they pushed the 1st test to dec

I don't think they care about their credibility. Its a government organization after all, whether they deliver or not, their jobs are guaranteed and pensions as well. Besides COVID has been a great help, can blame any late schedule on it.

Preparations for Gaganyaan completed, says Jitendra Singh, ‘Indian origin humans to travel to space next year’

Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 11 (ANI): Union Minister of State for the Ministry of Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh has said that the preparations for Gaganyaan, India’s maiden human space mission, are complete and humans of Indian origin will go to space next year.

The Minister announced that the trials of the mission scheduled to take place in 2023 will be conducted by the end of this year.

“Next year one or two human beings of Indian origin will go to space. The preparations for our Gaganyaan have been done. Before that, two trials will be conducted by the end of this year. The first trial will be empty and in the second a female robot (astronaut) will be sent whose name is Vyommitra,” Singh said during a press conference on Sunday.

“On the basis of these two missions, our astronauts will go in the third mission,” he added.

Notably, in a reply to a question in Rajya Sabha in December 2021, the Union Minister had said with this launch, India will become the fourth nation in the world to launch a Human Spaceflight Mission after USA, Russia and China.

“The major missions viz., Test vehicle flight for the validation of Crew Escape System performance and the 1st Uncrewed mission of Gaganyaan (G1) are scheduled during the beginning of second half of 2022. This will be followed by the second uncrewed mission at the end of 2022 carrying “Vyommitra” a spacefaring human-robot developed by ISRO and finally the first crewed Gaganyaanmission in 2023,” he had added.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day address in 2018, wherein he said that an Indian astronaut, be it a man or a woman, will go on a space odyssey by 2022 onboard ‘Gaganyaan’, Singh had said that the program got slightly delayed due to COVID restrictions, but preparations are now in full swing to achieve the mission by 2023.

He said that the objective of the Gaganyaan programme is to demonstrate the capability to send humans to low earth orbit (LEO) onboard on Indian Launch Vehicle and bring them back to earth safely.

Singh had said that more than 500 Industries are involved in the launch of Gaganyaan with several research modules including the indigenous health research module.

The Minister informed that this is the most ambitious space programme undertaken by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) till date and it will give a big boost to the Science and Technology development within the country, besides inspiring the Youth and Start-ups to take up bigger challenges and enhance the prestige of the country. India To Send Astronauts To Space By 2023, Preparations For Gaganyaan Done: MoS PMO Singh

Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Sunday stated that India is ready to send human astronauts to space by next year as preparations for Gaganyaan mission are on.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Sunday stated that India is ready to send human astronauts to space by next year as preparations for ISRO's Gaganyaan mission are being carried out successfully. Singh who was addressing a press conference in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad on Sunday was asked about the country's future plans with regard to space missions.

Speaking about the same, as he noted that two or three astronauts of Indian origin will be sent to space by next year, Singh further also said that preparations for the Gaganyaan mission have been done efficiently, however, two trials will be carried out before the final mission by the end of this year.

"The trial mission two trials, - one where the spaceship will be empty and the second one which will include a female robot (astronaut). The mission has been named 'Vyommitra'. On the basis of the first two missions, human astronauts will go for the third mission", he added.
In addition to this, the Union Minister also hailed India's growth as a fast-progressing country on the world stage stating that the country has sent satellites into space and now preparations are in full swing to send 'Gaganyaan' by 2023.

It is pertinent to note that ISRO's Gaganyaan mission envisages undertaking the demonstration of human spaceflight to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) in the short term and to lay the foundation for a sustained Indian human space exploration programme in the long run.

I am afraid of these noobs at PMO forcing the mission before 2024 elections. I was already unhappy with the way Modi announced this mission. It forced so many compromises, such as relying on Russians for crew training, no new launch pad, etc. Not that its clear that we won't even have a single unmanned flight this year and even one of the PAD abort tests have been pushed back to next year, these politicians are still irresponsibly claiming that the manned mission will happen by next year when its clear it won't happen even before 2024 elections.
Imagine how much pressure they will be putting on ISRO behind the scenes if this is what they are doing in public.
