Indian companies rank top among global peers in employee satisfaction, reflecting their successful business practices, says a study.

The findings are part of a report, ‘Driving Success Through Performance Excellence and Employee Engagement’, by research arm of leading global HR solutions provider Kenexa.

The report is based on two employee-based indicators of business success, which can be used to measure and monitor a firm’s state - the Performance Excellence Index (PEI) and the Employee Engagement Index (EEI).

“The higher the scores on these two indices, the better positioned employees are to deliver the organisation’s value proposition. By improving their scores on these indices, organisations can improve their business results,” Kenexa Research Institute executive director Jack Wiley said.

India ranks highest with 76 per cent on country-level PEI index of 14 countries. The index tracks employees’ views of product and service quality and the firm’s focus on customer service, quality, training and employee involvement.

Other than India, Russia also ranks high at 67 per cent, while Japan has reported the lowest score at 45 per cent.

Besides, the EEI index measures an employee’s pride in his/her firm, willingness to advocate the employer, whether they intend to stay and their overall satisfaction.

India ranks the highest in the country-level EEI index as well, with a 73 per cent and is followed by Brazil (65 per cent). While Japan has the lowest score in this index at 36 per cent, the report revealed.

Kenexa Research Institute has introduced organisational model for high performance and employee engagement and includes practical insights that would have a positive impact on individual and organisational productivity, customer satisfaction and bottom-line financial results.

“Having a high performing organisation and an engaged workforce are complementary goals but they involve different leadership practices. Managers should pursue both goals in tandem as this has positive, synergistic effect,” Wiley said.

“Leaders are expected to meet increasing productivity demands, yet with lower costs and fewer resources. That means employees need to be motivated and fully engaged in their work in order to support organisational objectives,” he added.

The report also provided an analysis of the financial impact that performance excellence and employee engagement can have on an organisation.

It shows that performance excellence and employee engagement are major contributors to an organisation's 'total shareholder return'.

“Given the recent economic conditions, many organisations and employees are feeling particularly battered. The analysis tells us where employees are reporting strengths for improving performance, enabling leaders to modify their practices and improve their systems,” Wiley said.

That has nothing to do with work culture. Indians perform well when they are put in western work culture. Our successful companies have adopted that. For Indian work cultures give a round in any government office.

You can take example of Indian IT sector , software or any private sector. Indian are not performing good in government sect because of poor administration and corruption. Indian can work can perform thats why they are performing so good in western culture . western culture don't have magic in themselves.

Would you please define what is work culture? Our babus (they are not aliens, they are people like us) are not school going kids, if they are not commited no headmistress can get the work done by them. Administration, Transperancy, initiative, punctuality, descipline, commitment all are part of a work culture. Surprisingly We create good workers who perform well in a given ambience but we can't create and maintain a good work culture. Somebody had said. ' India is a mysterious land'.

You gave answer by your self. Administration, Transperancy, initiative, punctuality, discipline, hard work commitment all are part of a work culture.

We create good workers and have good culture of working thats why we are growing economically in terms of biggest revenue we are getting today in Service Sector or by working employees in our private sector . Unfortunately in our Government Sector Corruption , Poor Leadership, Poor administration all are the things which are lacking.
In old time we were used to be most develop civilization. not only because of good workers .
A good worker only can make a good work culture .

Wrong....now let me explain.

Sucess in IT and ITES is because those sectors are well in touch with West due to their client base. So they are first to adopt the change. But it is nice and most welcoming that it is transmeating to other sectors (mainly private) also. But unfortunately most of the Govt companies (with few exception) are still where they were decades ago in term of work culture. And Gvt offices-it is better not to mention.

In british era India was a known name in global export. But latar that fame started dwidling. It is a misconception that only government companies suffered because of work culture. Many private industries and companies like Jute, tea estates, engineering tools also suffered same fate. If today our Babus dont open up their eyes to increase efficiency in government office it will not take time to stifle the little achievement we have now.

If today our babus don't open their eyes then nothing is going to happen. Today all of our middle class is moving to private bank, private hospitals , private transportation, private posts (courier) etc. The only people will be affected is poor people who cannot afford the expenses . In that term we are slowly shifting to capitalization . This is even itself a improvement.

Sucess in IT and ITES is because those sectors are well in touch with West due to their client base. So they are first to adopt the change.

So why they are mostly making there client base in India only . Why they are appreciating Indians about hard working.and work culture does not mean that client has to be only from own country.

Any way sabir it was nice conversation with you , but now i am feeling very sleepy and i am awaking whole night its already morning here. One thing is sure whether we have work culture or not we definitely have to build it or improve it in every sector of our country since we have very long way to go. Any post if you will post now will chat you next day.

The question never was on the ability of Indian workers, but on work culture prvalent here. Our Babus still hold the keys. Can you sset up a business unit without feeding them and roaming door to door in government offices. yes, you are right. Now middle class has other options. But how can you underestimate the poors who are the largest portion of our population. Again to remind you the work culture in Private sectors is something which our present generation has adopted. And efficient private banks, hospitals, schools, couriers are not whole of India but a very small advertisement of incredicle India. Just check the fertile area available in India and our agricultural out put per acre, compare with it with developped nations, Check our minarels reserve and then compare our industrial out put with major countries, you will get a clue. We have everything except the work culture. Otherwise we would have been the Super Power by now instead of America. six decades is not a small period.
