Dell supposedly is selling "Made in India" laptops for its Inspiron and Vostro lines, but I cannot find any information in text format on the site, or any press release/report about this.
Is there any penalty for falsely advertising products as made in India?

Dell has a fairly large factory in india. It can be seen on the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway near Sriperumbudur. But I'm not sure which models are manufactured here. So if they are saying it is Made in india then it is probably true.

Yes, but they manufacture desktops there I think, same as HP in India.

Perhaps they have started an assembly line, on Amazon I saw two latest inspiron models that had India in country of origin rather than China for older inspiron models, so maybe true.
Surprising tho they aren't advertising it, there are a chunk of Indians who wouldn't mind paying 10K more for a make in india laptop.
ofc it won't be expensive compared to a CBU imported chong model but still

Taiwanese company Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co, a major supplier for Apple, to begin manufacturing in India soon

https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/b...turing-for-apple-in-india-report-6010401.html

Taiwanese cable supplier to soon begin manufacturing for Apple in India: Report
India has been making efforts to attract smartphone makers such as Apple and Samsung through its production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme.

A Taiwanese cable and connector maker will soon start mass production for Apple in India, as the country tries to attract manufacturing from global companies.

Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co will start mass production for Apple later in 2020 from its new facility in Chennai, according to a Bloomberg report.

Moneycontrol could not independently verify the story.
India has been making efforts to attract smartphone makers such as Apple and Samsung through its production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme.

Three contract manufacturers for Apple - Foxconn Hon Hai, Wistron and Pegatron - have received approval under the PLI scheme.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information and Technology (MeitY) on October 6 said it has approved 16 applicants under the PLI scheme for large-scale electronics manufacturing. Apple's rival Samsung also received the green signal under the scheme.
"Apple (37 percent) and Samsung (22 percent) together account for nearly 60 percent of global sales revenue of mobile phones and this scheme is expected to increase their manufacturing base manifold in the country," the ministry said.
TC Gou, Chairman of Cheng Uei, is the brother of Foxconn founder Terry Gou

In July 2020, Apple began assembling the iPhone 11 at Foxconn’s plant in Chennai. Other models such as the iPhone XR, iPhone 7, iPhone 6s, and the original iPhone SE are also assembled in the country.

Apple Cable Supplier To Start Mass Production In India Soon
Apple’s major assembly partners, Taiwan’s Foxconn Technology Group, Pegatron Corp. and Wistron Corp., have all set up either a subsidiary or an iPhone assembly plant in India.

Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co., a Taiwan-based cable and connector maker, will start mass production for Apple Inc. later this year from its new plant in India, according to a person familiar with the matter, the latest sign of the US company’s increasing presence in the South Asian country.

Apple’s major assembly partners, Taiwan’s Foxconn Technology Group, Pegatron Corp. and Wistron Corp., have all set up either a subsidiary or an iPhone assembly plant in India. The chairman of Cheng Uei, also known as Foxlink, is TC Gou, the brother of Foxconn founder Terry Gou.

India is trying to attract manufacturing for Apple, Samsung Electronics Co. and other major smartphone brands with an incentive program, as political tensions between the US and China escalate. The global coronavirus pandemic has added pressure on companies to review supply chains.

Cheng Uei said in a statement on Friday that a company engineer was caught on internal surveillance video this month damaging automation equipment at the new Indian plant near Chennai. The suspect is a Chinese national, and the incident was reported to local police and Chinese authorities, it said.

Wow. The government should provide every single incentive. Once the first chips are produced from India, they can start mandating that in order for devices to be sold in India, they must have a chip from India. This will bolster demand for more semiconductor manufacturing. Hopefully the government is smart (damn) about this

It is testing/assembly facility.

Intel manufactures lots of bare ICs on a silicon wafer like this in America or Israel

Exports this wafer to Malaysia, Vietnam, China.

Where they are first cut up into squares like this from the wafer, the square is a functional Intel processor

Then it is coated with some black colored magic material( plastic or ceramic or epoxy idk ) this is called the "package" , the leads from the chip are then attached to a PCB, with either pads or solder balls on the other side.
In this the black or white square in centre is the Packaged intel CPU, the blue and green outer squares are the PCB.

We do not get the IC Fab technology if Intel actually opens a Testing and Assembly plant here, but it is a step in a good direction, also if these finished chips are exported, it will be called a "Made in India" product.

It's some fanboy site for Samsung phones, may be getting some gibs for samsung or doing it for free who knows.
There are Windows focused websites also which are always filled with positive spin for Microsoft, and Apple product focused websites shilling for Apple.

Nope, afaik I don't think we have any branded products that cause "fans" to start running websites and all about those.
If you see today most famous brands around us are of the MNC/Western or even Chinese variety, Indian products are just ok and don't have that "x factor" to inspire brand loyalty and fanboyism, or the products are beyond the consumer sphere in B2B sphere so those obviously don't garner interests of any sort.
Perhaps in the future we may have but now I doubt it.

Now Vedant-Sterlite wala wants those sweet PLI GibsMeDats for their fibre optic cable manufacturing business, even though his bijness was running swimmingly even without the PLI Gibs.
GoI should be vigilant for these folks who just want to pocket the gibs without making requisite expansion in capacity/production/sales.

India movie product ‘rajnikanth’ has fan websites I think. And a huge following where Tamils style their hair, wear shades, smoke cigarettes etc. looks like they sell Rajnikanth merchandise there.
IPL is another product that has fan websites.
Royal enfield has biker fan websites?
there are Facebook pages called Fans of ISRO.

so, some examples are there. But yeah we don’t have large user base consumer products like American companies do. And I am sure no one is starting a fan base for Bajaj auto or TVS scooty. LOL.

D-Link May Start a New Production Unit in India: Report
D-Link is reportedly considering outsourcing production of its network devices in India. The Taiwanese company plans to start local production for the devices that are sold within India. By outsourcing production to India, D-Link aims to benefit from India's PLI (Production-Linked Incentive) scheme. As of now D-Link has a subsidiary in India, with the office located in Mumbai, although possible production sites are currently unknown.

Finally...Finally...Finally...routers and modems and other network devices getting built in India than at the enemy nation china

Nice to see the companies sensing the CONSUMER RESOLVE in Indian minds..vocal for local
D-Link had actually a router production plant in India.
However it was a JV with some other company.
That company eventually turned into "Digisol"
Digisol is an Indian brand manufacturing their own designed router's in India, specifically in Verna, Goa, this was site of their original JV plant with D-Link.

This site has a history of these smartlink/digisol people and their JV with D-Link.
In anycase production will be done by Indian company only, most likely Digisol ppl.

This has a chance of happening, apparently these Smartlink people were a part of D-Link India subsidiary before it got split into Smartlink that does manufacturing and design under it's own name, D-Link meanwhile switched to only import of Routers,Switch etc from China and sales/distribution/marketing in India.
The Split happened in 2013 according to article below.
