Unless they come up with EUV machine it is not possible. Moreover, 5nm, 7nm node is a marketing hype. I read upon this topic little bit. So basically Intel and TSMC have totally different way of measuring the process node. Intel's 10nm has the same transistor density as TSMC's 7nm. So Intel is packing the same number of transistors with older node compared TSMC's smaller node. Now Intel has changed the way to measure process node. It is literally a shit show. At the end of the day how many transistors can you pack in mm2 of area. Reading about this topic a bit deeper tells us things are not that simple and black and white as it is.
They're coming up with EUV machines though the yield itself remains questionable but they'd improve with time.

You underestimate the technology behind EUV machine. Building a EUV is far more complex than even going to the moon. It's more likely Chinese will have a shot at going to the moon than building viable EUV machine. Why I say that? Read on.

The research to start building EUV machine started in late 1990's with US funding.

Screenshot 2024-04-18 102157.png

Although by 2010 they have made significant progress, they were still not there yet. It was then they decided they needed to bring onboard Intel, TSMC and Samsung to carry the research forward. So in 2012 all these 3 companies invested in ASML.

This gave a shot in the arm for ASML who carried on the research. In addition to that, they established 700 suppliers like Car Zeiss from Germany, Applied materials from US, Tokyo Electron from Japan. They have exclusivity contract with all these suppliers meaning these suppliers cannot supply to any present or future competitors to ASML.

After more than decade and half, EUV machine became a reality in 2016 and first EUV was shipped in 2017. By 2020, there were still only 100 EUV machines in the world. Imagine the complexity of even manufacturing a EUV that they could only produce 100 of them by 2020. They can pop out 100's of DUV machines per year whereas with EUV they can only make 12 of them a year. Now they have increased the production to 60 EUVs per year.

If the Chinese have not perfected DUV, then they have no chance in developing a EUV machine. They still order DUV machines from ASML which is not under sanctions. With regards to Chinese stealing or developing their EUV machine, this is what ASML CEO had to say

“A lot of ASML’s technology is not on blueprints,” he said. “It’s in the heads of people. And you don’t need just the blueprints; you need everything surrounding it and the entire supply chain. You have to build an alternative Zeiss etc. That is a colossal task. You’re not talking about months or years. You’re talking about a decade or more before you could replicate something like this.

The next big leap in SMC tech. The west's pursuing it . You can bet the Chinese are too. Hope we do too ASAP.

Last year chongs started work on ~300 semiconductor related factories, from fabs to equipment to chemicals. But the americans are not far behind. take a look at this list. Almost all aspects of chip production, from analog chips to SiCs, 2nm ones to OSAT packaging ones are covered, with all the mega mega factories like Samsung's Texas base, Wolfspeed's world's first 300nm SiC plant, to TSMCs mega $100 billion factory to Texas Instrument's $40 billion facility are well under construction. Hopefully once the first fabs in India become operational, it will kickstart downstream investments into all related industries'

Raimondo Says Huawei’s Chip Breakthrough Is Years Behind US Tech
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...i-s-chip-breakthrough-is-years-behind-us-tech
You don't need Raimondo to tell you that. That is an obvious fact to everyone.
The problems that really worries Americans is: they tried to slow down Chinese progress in chip manufacturing and kill Huawei. So far, both missions are not so successful.
The worst of the worse, with 7nm breakthrough, they won't be able to halt Chinese development in AI in the next 10 years.

Always quote tweet along. Twitter does have an uncertain future, especially in India and Tweets are even short lived.
GOI plan for the Semi-Conductor Laboratory will require an investment of Rs 20,000 cr for a new fabrication (fab, or foundry) plant with a capacity of 20,000 wafers/month. The plan also envisions moving SCL away frm high nodes of 180nm, towards 28 nm and then down to 14 nm 1/2

The idea is to establish a R&D/prototype centre of excellence with 300mm wafer processing on advanced nodes.SCL cannot survive solely as an R&Dcentre. Thats why considering a reasonably sized commercial fab unit of 20,000 wafers/month, which will require around Rs 20,000 cr 2/2

China cannot mass produce 7nm with DUV machines. It has already been tried and tested by many other fabs. Nothing new here. The yield will be substantially lower and not profitable or sustainable in the long term. There's a reason why EUV exists and the US has made it inaccessible to China.

Sharp considers major investment in India for display fab: Sources
Per sources, meetings have taken place between Sharp representatives and senior government functionaries, where the company has expressed a clear intent to establish what could be the largest display fab facility outside of its home country. The discussions indicate that Sharp is actively exploring opportunities across various states in India, with plans for a sprawling 1,000-acre facility.

Thinking of making something similar, a live web-based tracker for the Indian Semiconductor Industry, perhaps a separate one for specialized electronics segments, maybe even one for India's Supercomputing/HPC ecosystem and industry.

I'm currently collating all recent announcements and updates, would appreciate if people here bring up lesser-known facilities or developments in this field....

Try these. They keep track of all such events in the SMC industry globally.
