A very close family friend used to oversee a large commercial and EU accredited+certified farm on the outskirts of Bangalore.

They used to grow a lot of things from chives, cherry tomatoes, capsicum, english cucumbers to exotic herbs and export it by plane to EU countries.

The leftovers were sold to shops like Namdharis and sundry local vendors at almost mandi rates.

It was a big ass farm and was almost net zero. Plenty of solar panels, bio gas plants, a scrubber to get much cleaner bio-cng, their kitchen ran entirely on gas from the plant.

He took us there on a weekend tour. We were quite impressed with all the green talk till we sat down to discuss commercial viability.

They had two consultants from Israel. Both made ISD calls then and ran a minimum bill of Rs. 3 lakhs a month. Then there were local agri scientists and researchers working in house. Very bright men and women.. told us about simple solutions to deal with fungus, ball worm and bugs of all sorts that are common in this region.

How green is it? They had massive green houses. Lets get to the pests part. How do you limit pesticides? Well well well... there are these machines which dig into the soil and raise the temperature by so much that it kills all bugs, insects etc. The same is repeated over the entire plotting area. It may take a couple of weeks but but.. they run on diesel which is ok, small bit of pollution for 'organic' certification toh chalta hai.

Only after all these and a zillion other processes do you get an 'export' licence under the 'organic' stamp from the EU. They are quite strict. Inspections are random and routine. They have cancelled several accreditions and licences issued to others in the past. They have bounties for employees to spot a lapse in processes or use of pesticides to get rid of a pest infestation. He was telling us about how standing crop in nearly 12 green houses had to be ripped from the ground and destroyed because of an infestation. They could not use pesticides to get rid of the bugs and letting the crop get to maturity would mean waiting for almost two months. The 'consultants' suggested to destroy everything.

After exhausting funds, they began diverting money from their other businesses.

The brainchild ? The owner's daughter in law who sipped red wine and scotch throughout the day at work. Modern women in a world of regressive men you see. The organics business shut down after some years not before nearly bankrupting the company.

Organic for own consumption is ok. Branded organic on a commercial scale after following the myriad rules and regulations in a tropical region is a sure shot at bankruptcy. Only luck can save you.

Center only procures that much food through FCI at MSP that it requires for its PDS distribution.

For the rest, there are public and private mandis where farmers can go and sell their produce.

Contract farming is also an option which is generally profitable for the vast majority. The unlucky one will for sure curse his fate and the MNC.
No, Centre procures as much as farmers can bring to the farmgate. PDS distribution is a small miniscule of that. Why do you think we have surplus buffers by like 3x the norms

Yes. Those who agreed to fund this harebrained idea of the bitch were more responsible.

Anyways, both son and daughter in law got kicked out of the house. The family businesses are running much better with the duo out of the picture.

Yes of course but the primary reason behind Govt. procurement is for PDS distribution and for maintaining buffer stocks to prevent wild price rise during years when production is low.

Center has been traditionally procuring from Haryana and Punjab for decades. It is for other states to figure out how they deal with their farm produce.

Telangana is forcing center to purchase their rice at MSP. Other well meaning one's will join too and pajeets will realize they have bitten off more than they can chew.

Telangana is forcing what they're entitled for. MSP is a central sector scheme, applicable to all India. Either the CG cancels it for everyone or applies everywhere or sets statewise value quota. Haryana, Punjab and Western UP are only enjoying all the money allocated for MSP/FRP. So much so that paddy from Bihari farmer gets sold to a Punjabi middleman at 800 Rupees per quintal, the Punjabi middleman pays for transportation to Punjab and sells it to Central Government at 1800 rupees per quintal. It is a known fact, since Mandi rules don't apply in Bihar the middleman has to buy out the police/officials in UP and Haryana (if caught). APMC laws are in place in most of the states, but procurement is absent. Middlemen from these region are being subsidised at the cost of farmers all over India.

Ya'll Nibbiars The In a bid to enable India’s decarbonization push, Indian Oil Corporation, Larsen and Toubro L & T, and ReNew Power signed a binding term sheet for the formation of a joint venture JV company to develop the nascent green hydrogen sector in India. The tripartite venture is a synergistic alliance that brings together the strong credentials of L&T in designing, executing, and delivering EPC projects, IndianOil’s established expertise in petroleum refining along with its presence across the energy spectrum, and the expertise of ReNew in offering and developing utility-scale renewable energy solutions.

Additionally, IndianOil and L&T have signed a binding term sheet to form a JV with equity participation to manufacture and sell electrolyzers used in the production of green hydrogen. The central government in February notified the Green Hydrogen policy aimed at boosting production of green hydrogen and green ammonia to help the nation become a global hub for the environmentally friendly version of the element. And For countries like India, with its ever-increasing oil and gas import bill, green hydrogen can also help provide crucial energy security by reducing the overall dependence on imported fossil fuels.

The While nearly all hydrogen produced in India today is grey, it is estimated that demand for hydrogen will be 12 MMT by 2030 and around 40 precents of the element produced in the country around 5 MMT will be green, as per the draft National Hydrogen Mission guidelines. And By 2050, nearly 80 percents of India’s hydrogen is projected to be green produced by renewable electricity and electrolysis. Green hydrogen may become the most competitive route for hydrogen production by around 2030. This may be driven by potential cost declines in key production technologies and in clean energy technologies such as solar PV and wind turbines. The Today, hydrogen is mainly used in the refining, steel and fertilizer sectors, which will be the focus of the JVs’ initial efforts. The country’s refining sector consumes approx. 2 MMT of grey hydrogen every year, with IndianOil owning one of the largest shares of its refining output.

And To help decarbonize Indian industry, the new green hydrogen policy provides for the waiver of Inter-State transmission charges for a period of 25 years and a banking provision of up to 30 days, which will help reduce the cost of green hydrogen significantly. This will, therefore, push the replacement of grey hydrogen with green. The Ministry of Power has also provided a single window clearance portal for all clearances and open access on priority to green hydrogen projects.
