Can anyone give some stats ,how was the response to pli schemes , how much capacity it gonna add , in percentage if possible .


Which sector it created ,which were almost non existent , what more to be expected

Most of schemes given till date have a timeline of 5-6 years , many factories being built under it , will be completed by 2023 .

What i wanna ask is ,can we be net surplus in manufacturing , and when ,2030 ?

Nope, India can’t be net manufacturing surplus by 2030(in less than a decade). too short a period.

PLI handles the manufacturing incentive for select industries. it’s like giving back their own tax money as incentive.

Innovation/research side of the manufacturing equation is still not answered, especially by private players. ex: compared to EV industry in India with their innovative products coming out in recent years, old Indian industry looks pale.

More over there are still many industry verticals that are yet to be fully indigenised.

Most of the schemes have been just announced, now companies will have to apply, they have to get selected, then hunt for land to start a plant or setup some new lines at an existing plant.

In terms of non-existent sectors there is the whole Laptop/Desktop/Server assembly plants, with perhaps further indigenization of the supply chain in the future, then there is the Pharmaceutical API industry, which earlier used to be all imported from China.
A new PLI has been announced for LED lights, so that's also new

This company Dixon's shares have shot up since announcement of PLI Schemes( they have been selected under the Mobile manufacturing one ), now they are also having a JV with Airtel.

I also heard that they got a contract from Samsung to manufacture their low-end phones, but don't know how true that is.

This is an Indian company btw, they produce electronics and white goods for other name-brand companies

Nope, about 10 will be enough if they get global scale export orders and diversify into subcomponent production, like PCB manufacturing, casing/chassis manufacturing, chip assembly and testing, battery cell assembly, etc.

Taiwan has like 5-6 of these OEM companies but they are global scale and employs loads of folks( PRChinese mainly because taiwan doesn't have the population or low wages )

New Delhi: The Indian government said that European telecom gear vendors like Ericsson and Nokia are keen to expand their existing operation in India for global supply chain under under the Rs 12,195-crore production linked incentive (PLI) scheme of the government, which was notified in February.

Other global vendors like Samsung , Cisco, Ciena, and Engineering Manufacturing Services (EMS) companies like Jabil, Foxconn, Sanmina and Flex have shown interest to set up manufacturing in India for telecom and networking products for domestic as well as export markets under the newly announced PLI scheme, the government said in an official release.

Indian manufacturers like VVDN Technologies, Dixon, HFCL, Coral Telecom and Sterlite Technologies have also shown interest in the scheme.


The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) was expected to release final guidelines for the scheme by March 31 and operationalise them by April 1. However, the DoT is expecting more applications and has therefore extended the time frame, said industry executives.

On Wednesday, contract manufacturer Dixon Technologies (India) Ltd and Bharti Enterprises Ltd signed a pact to form a joint venture (JV) to manufacture telecom and networking products such as modems, routers, set top boxes and Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The JV will file necessary applications with the communications ministry to avail benefits under the PLI scheme.

The PLI scheme in telecom and networking products aims to make India a global hub of manufacturing telecom equipment, including core transmission equipment, 4G/5G next generation Radio Access Network and wireless equipment, access and Customer Premises Equipment (CPE), Internet of Things (IoT) access devices, other wireless equipment and enterprise equipment like switches, routers amongst others.

It is estimated that full utilisation of the scheme funds is likely to lead to incremental production of around Rs 2.4 lakh crore with exports of around Rs 2 lakh crore over five years. The scheme is expected to bring in investment of around Rs 3,000 crore and generate huge direct and indirect employment.


The government said that an extensive outreach program with the support of Invest India team for the PLI scheme is being planned, covering - One to one meeting with potential investors, participation in global outreach events organized by industry associations and webinars among others.
