If these guys seriously want to do what they say they want to do and dethrone big tech in India, they should start by supplanting Android with an Indian version of something like Postmarket OS. Include it as a medium term agenda. Although it will cause slight consternation in Smartphone makers because mobile Linux distros are not going to bloatware the $hit out of the smartphones and allow them to work for 10 years, thereby decreasing the number of people wanting to replace their smartphones with newer models frequently. But it will surely help in supplanting google because people will prefer it over Android after a marketing campaign explains bloatware to the janta. Someone should also design an Indian search engine.
YouTube will be one of the most difficult things to replace.
China are doing this with Harmony OS because of the huawei ban i agree being so reliant on US companies means we will never develop these technologies inhouse

Its a browser, not a search engine, right?
Yeah sorry I deleted it anyway building a new search engine to rival google at this point is really difficult most startups trying have failed and duckduckgo survives using google's funding and anyway it just uses Bing's search engine you need massive capital and a massive workforce if you want to beat google

What Finance Minister Needs To Do To Make History: The 10 Big ‘Asks’ From Budget 2021-22

With less than two weeks to go for the Union budget, expectations about Big Bang announcements have risen. Not least because Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has herself talked about wanting to see a “post-pandemic budget never seen before in a hundred years.” It is not clear what she actually meant by that, but it has given rise to hopes for another 1991 kind of breakthrough budget-cum-liberalisation package from the government.

Where defence spending is concerned, it has not only stagnated but fallen for many years. Over the last decade, defence’s share of GDP has fallen from 2.5 per cent to 2.1 per cent and needs a big boost to make Atmanirbhar Bharat in defence manufacturing successful. India must push up spending to 3 per cent at least given the huge defence needs over the next decade

This is why we need 2-3 fabs in India.
Demand for ICs will only increase as the years pass.

IIRC the original PLI outlay for these was 5K crores, they have increased it per anonymoose sources in article.

They are raising duties on imports mostly Chinese mobile phones, Luxury furniture, Imported cars and components like Tesla, Kia.

So far looks good the commie hammer is only falling on foreign companies.

but wouldn't it make the products costlier and decrease competition.

also ikea is not chinese and actually provides good furniture at a reasonable price. Same with a lot of e vehicles air conditioners etc.

It will increase the cost of stuff that is imported compared to ones locally assembled or manufacture, this is done to give a fair shot to Indian counterparts given that the Indian companies are investing in cost cutting measures and improving the quality of their own products.
Say a TATA cars costs 7lakhs and the KIA with imported parts costs 6.5 lakhs. So the gov brings up the cost of KIA cars by increasing the import duty on components.

if that logic were to be applied than almost all imports should be exempt from duties in a way that they wipe out the Indian entities.
Gov imposes tariff to prevent a total wipeout of Indian business
