Dunno which thread to put in but but......

A broken clock is right twice a day.
But that is a definitely a working clock and he seems well intentioned when he mentions it. A very good explainer article on The Print : https://theprint.in/world/all-about...a-hotbed-for-devastating-earthquakes/1357347/

" Turkey sits on a hotbed of seismic activity known as the Albide Belt — the second most active region on Earth after the Pacific Ring of Fire.

The Alpide Belt spans over 15,000 km, roughly following the boundary of the Eurasian and African tectonic plates. It extends from the Himalayas in the east, through the Mediterranean region and across to the Azores in the Atlantic Ocean. Tectonic plates are formations of the Earth’s crust that move slowly, often creating pressure and friction between each other.

This Alpide Belt accounts for about 17% of the world’s big earthquakes so far, according to United States Geological Survey. These earthquakes include some of the most destructive ones such as the Iran temblor that took 11,000 lives in August 1968, and the Turkey tremors in March 1970 and May 1971 that killed about 1,000 people each, according to the countries records. All were near magnitude 7, USGS archives show.

The Alpide Belt is home to many mountain ranges, the most significant being the Himalayas and the Alps. The Himalayan zone is prone to intense and high-frequency earthquakes because of active tectonic plate friction.

Scientists say there is a strong possibility of a major earthquake in the Himalayan region. "

Interesting : https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/ind...8n_CjDIrfkCMMmyoQEw7I60AQ&utm_content=bullets

  • Almost 26 years ago, the GSI submitted a detailed report about the presence of lithium in the same area, in the union territory's Salal. But there seems to have been no meaningful follow-up until now.
  • Like the previous findings in 1995-97, the latest find by GSI is also preliminary. Officials admit that exploration and findings are based on the previous work of the organisation.
  • A 1997 report by the GSI said, "In view of the persistent lithium values and presence of widespread bauxite column (palaeoplanar surface) at a number of places, the prospect for lithium appears to be quite promising. "

Was it shelved due to security issues perhaps?

The purpose of creating Planning commission by Congress was that Country will be run by planning commission while Nehru family can enjoy their life in palace like Viceroy.

We better not export that Lithium. Develop the infrastructure to process and refine it. Then supply Lithium to our own industries on the condition that they don't export the products before meeting our demand. Since most of that 5.9 million tons is ore and assuming we get only 1 million tons of pure Lithium after all the processing and refining, we are still looking at 1 billion Kgs of Lithium. That's enough for 500,000 buses or 50 million cars.

Supplying that Lithium for Electronic gadgets can wait, we need to urgently lower our Oil import bill which is eating into our trade deficit. That means more electric buses and cars. Our crude oil imports have crossed $250 billion last year on the back of rising oil prices due to Ukraine war. We can't wait and see this number climbing every year. It's insane how a country of $3.5 Trillion GDP is consuming that much Oil. Imagine our oil imports once we hit $5 Trillion or more. Most of the gains will be erased by huge Oil import bill.
Expect no extraction and processing of these mines for atleast a decade. Finding reserves somewhere in our country does not means that the extraction is also feasible and if feasible does not means we setup mines immediately.

Lithium mining is very dirty, and it would take easily a decade to setup any plants in Jammu for this. South Delhi and South Bombay walas will fill SC with plea to shut down any mining in Mountains to preserve the HARMONY with NATURE.

It's like the Govt from at the top wants Indians to believe they deserve nice things, but those that implement it on ground want people to feel worth shit and treat you that way. To be fair to them, we too behave as if we don't deserve nice things(ingrained into our thick skulls after 6 decades of misrule).
Spitting, littering, defecating...you name it.

There's no sense of ownership of the land they live in, within the people, everyone lives as if in a rentier state. And as a result, good things open for public consumption is quickly translated into Tragedy of the Commons.
