I never understand why our companies dont spam american websites like Amazon, eBay or even SEA ecommerce sites like Lazada with their products. Is there something that is blocking them from doing it? It is the easiest way to boost industrial exports. I dont expect high end stuff here, but things like textiles, shoes, machined goods etc are product plenty across the country

Indian engineering products are crap, but that's to be expected. Instead of inhaling copium, we should try to export this crap to other countries for low prices and move up the food chain gradually. Everyone here knows this.

The engineering goods export of India had a share of 27% out of the total exports during April-December 2021 from the country. Exports of Engineering Goods jumped to US$ 81.8 billion during April-December 2021 (provisional) compared to US$ 52.9 billion during the same period in the previous year, registering a remarkable growth of 54%. The engineering sector contributes approximately 40% of the total manufacturing export. The impressive growth in engineering goods exports in recent years has largely been due to the Zero duty Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG) scheme of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry which forms part of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) of the Government of India.

Exports of capital goods contributed about half of the total engineering exports from India. Primary iron, steel, and products and consumer durables exports accounted for 21% & 20%, respectively, while Non-ferrous metals and products export contributed 9% of India's engineering goods exports in 2020-21.

India exports engineering products to the following regions: ASEAN, North-East Asia, Africa, EU, North America, CIS, Latin America, South Asia, Africa, Middle East, and West Asia etc. The top Indian engineering goods importing countries are USA, the UAE, China, Italy, and Germany, with a share of 15.5%, 5.0%, 4.9%, 3.7%, and 3.4%, respectively. 23 out of 25 countries recorded positive cumulative growth in engineering exports during April-March 2022 over April-March 2021.

Even accounting for that it shows we are still punching well below our weight in labor intensive manufacturing. It seems to be a legislation issue which is not allowing us to capitalize on it.

not the case, it is the case that there is no accurate system to calculate employment in the country at the moment.

and these numbers are not constant, this year there is less demand of MNREGA, which usually means rural folks are finding wages somewhere else.

There is a comparison with peers that can point in that direction, what part of their workforce are involved in this kind of manufacturing and what part of their GDP comes from said sources. Why get defensive about it and claim that a MoHR pdf will deboonk this when it seems that the govt itself is serious about employing a large section of the workforce in these areas?
