How much does one save up in 10 years living in a city like Mumbai with 0 side income/investments, surviving only on salary increments, bonuses etc?

Yes, few core engineering jobs where job continuity is always a risk... so people keep jumping jobs and eventually try to go and work abroad, preferably in the Middle East.

I know people making double that living paycheck to paycheck... literally taking personal loans to manage their card bills, emi payments etc. That's why I asked... how much would one end up saving in 10 years?

An income and expenditure statement has two sides.. jab khud kamana shuru karte hain na bhai.. tab jakar ke samajh aata hai ke paisa ped par nahi ugta... jo haath se nikal gaya, usey phir kamana padta hai.

I wont be keeping my money in a bank owned by corporates and may end up running like PMC depositers. I dont know what you meant by corporates, doesnt HDFC, Icici come under corporate.
I just wanted to highlight whats actually behind the magnanimity shown by TATAs.
Such loans are fine as long as money is paid back and people stop making fun that PSB are inefficient.
Some of the expressways in UP are actually funded by PSB.

US has Social Security. A person making 2000 $ in the US would either be eligible for social Security benefits or other safety nets(Monthly payment checks and EBT) . Also most food articles and electronics are relatively cheap here. Public transport is also convenient and virtually free of cost. 2000 $ is enough for sustenance imho.
