TSMC leads anti intel lobby in semi conductor industry and if somehow we manage to get them to build even one foundry here in India it will bring in a revolutionary changes. India has skills in design and manufacturing gap TSMC can easily bridge.

Hope GOI manage this great achievement of getting them or Intel in India.

One separate discussion is ongoing between the government of Taiwan (ROC) and the GOI for a potential US$ 7.5 billion semiconductor investment deal. It is not part of the US$ 10 billion chip incentive deal. Reuters, Bloomberg and a bunch of Korean and Taiwanese media houses reported on it.
I will be surprised if anyone agrees to set up a chip plant in India. Even BJP with all their seriousness about brining manufacturing jobs to India is not trying hard enough. How stupid the morons who are working in GoI should be that they initially said they will give peanuts of $1 billion to anyone who sets up a plant here? Now the reality has hit them in their dirty disgusting faces. Now they are offering $10 billion. This requires more than incentives. We need to establish contacts with Indian origin or Indian citizens working for chip companies abroad like Taiwan did in late 1990's and give them incentives to come back to build our own semiconductor manufacturing industry. They better fucking finalize a deal before next half of 2022.

Kerela and eastern states only possible. West bengal will be perfect especially southern west bengal.
if someone builds a fab it will be where there is already a lot of infrastructure available and our biggest manafacturing states seem to be Gujarat Maharashtra or Tamil Nadu , why would anyone choose Kerala or west bengal when these states barely have the needed infrastructure

As of now, Guj, Karnataka, UP are the front-runners as per Arun Mampazhy.

Tata and Vedanta are attempting to do just that. Raja Manickam (Tessolve founder, formerly at Texas Instru) joined Tata recently.

My professor in the first year used to pick up a steel bar and say "this costs some 100 Rs and we export this to China and Japan and buy back Vernier caliper made out of same steel costing some 3,000 Rs", "This is the absolute State of our country"
You might find it very odd but the cost of a final product can be exponential times higher than the cost of raw materials. It's because fabrication and machining is not cheap. You might procure raw material for Rs 3000 but the final cost of fabrication can go higher than Rs 30,000.
Calipers and other precision devices, especially the ones used in industrial applications can be very expensive. The one Made-in-India that i used was around Rs 6000.

Southern west bengal is connected by port and highways. Besides massive amount of water. Kolkata is much closer.

Bad infra, frequent power cuts (might be taken care of), poor port connectivity, overall poor investment environment, petty politics. They are not even considering WB for MITRA park (7 to be built across India) or power equipment park (3 to be built); states like Bihar, UP, Telengana, Andhra are front-runners in those cases and they would build fab in Bengal?

Well i am taking about if the state of west bengal really want investment and wants to build business friendly environment. West bengal do have natural advantages

Tajpur port will show if they are really serious.

Bengal simply does not have a business friendly environment. It is very difficult to run even a rolling mill, let alone a fab unit.

I think Odisha will be the best for fab industry.
Good Water Availability.
Friendly Government
Closer to port.
Good Road Infra.
Lot's of empty land.
Little to no Political Unstability
Close to a Smart City like Bhubaneswar where U can find skilled workforce.
Power Availability is decent.

As far as i knw TATA going to establish OSAT . An OSAT plant packages, assembles and tests foundry-made silicon wafers, turning them into finished semiconductor chips . 3 potential states - TN, telengana , karnataka .

Fabrication unit different . Talking with taiwan .

Hmm. They are going slow for now and looking for committing more on R&D. US$ 300 million investment proposal is not much wrt chip production.
