The image below posted by @WolfPack86 is of a mizoram police commando allegedly holding an M4 carbine

But by looking at the weapon's iron sight it does not look like the conventional M4 iron sight as in the image below:

The barrel size is also notably smaller than that of a regular M4.

Guys is the gun a new variant of the M4 or has the state police purchased HKs?

@Kunal Biswas @ALBY @cobra commando ?
As @Kunal Biswas said, these are M4's. Mizoram police is the first in the country who have adopted M4 as there standard weapon back in 97. I think this is a recent upgrade.

Army personnel arrive to take positions outside the house where Commander of Lashkir-e-Toiba (LeT) militant Abu Usama, a resident of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK), was holed up during an encounter at Dardpora (Lolab) north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday, 30 January 2016.

We should have used drones with thermal imaging to find them in thick forest and covered with tents...
This is what i said in other thread about Kashmir, which also has thick Forest.

Our Mi 35 have day/night fighting capability with day night sight with FLIR and TV.

The effective way to find and kill them is boots on the ground with local intelligence, Interception of their location through electronic signature via their radio frequencies ..

Light helicopters and mini drones working with strong but light artillery ..

===============

I don`t think that thermal sights work through thick vegetation in a hot humid climate, Specially from above ..

News is that in a covert op in Myanmar some 15+ have been killed & 20+ surrendered.
Nice, Last time many close relatives of Khaplang killed in Para Raid including his son in law, if i recall it correctly.

That coward signed a peace pact with Govt since his entire cadre was wiped out.

I know Havaldar Limbu sir from Facebook , he took part in the Raid, let see if he could give me some exclusive pics of 21 para SF

In Colombia and other South American countries, Authorities use Helicopter to comb the vast forest for illegal drug trade.

It is similar to the rain forest of NE.

Also, Philippine military against Moro Terrorist - the forest is similar to NE

Hmm apparently IA did a cross border op into Myanmar in Sept-2015 as well:

http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/army-crosses-into-myanmar-kills-3-pla-militants/1/467381.html

A combined Army and Assam Rifles unit ambushed and killed three militants of the underground People's Liberation Army (PLA) in Myanmar on Saturday night. Army sources in Manipur said the three PLA militants were killed 'in a daring cross border action'. "Our boys went 2.8 km into Myanmar and did this act in broad daylight. We even brought two bodies to our own side," Army sources told India Today.

The operation was carried out by troops of 11th battalion of the Assam Rifles and the 6 Dogra regiment. Eighteen soldiers from the Dogra unit were ambushed by suspected NSCN(K) guerillas in Chandel district on June 4. Indian Army special forces carried out a retaliatory raid on rebel camps in Myanmar on June 8 in which they killed an unknown number of militants.

"The September 5 action was along the border. We did not go across," an Army spokesperson in Delhi clarified. The combined units were on an area domination patrol in Manipur's Chandel district which shares a border with Myanmar when they ran into the PLA militants. The firefight lasted an hour in which five militants were killed including a self-styled Major, a self-styled Captain and a self-styled Lieutenant. Two bodies were taken away by the PLA cadres who retreated after the encounter. The army unit brought back bodies of two slain militants and handed them to the Moreh police station. The Meitei-dominated PLA was founded in 1978 and is fighting for an independent Manipur.

Army aviation do that as well, But using thermal and flair in hot climate may not be practical ..

Who is this havildar limbu sir...i want those pics too......

Another point is that SF should be given complete independence while carrying out ops...since i am an inhabitant of assam. I know some things...in fact some of my bodo neighbours are suspectedly insurgents. U all would be surprised to know that there is a ssb camp located nearby whose distance from my ultra neighbours wont be more than 150metres!!...just think...NE insurgents are not at all well trained. They can be eliminated within a week completely. Just political allowance is required. I should say that they are surely armed however they behave well with us despite me being an assamese.

One of my close relatives is an civil servoce officer who is involved with law and order situations. He said me that 60% of the insurgents are roaming in the nearby cities..quite like sleeper cells. But simultaneously carrying out money demands. One cant understand the actual situation here sitting in Delhi...let it be a major gen. Or an IPS. Things are different down here. Plus i have seen violence very closely. They start from very small fights even from two person's fights sometimes.. yes believe me,...these fights get racial and hundreds lose their lives.
