The reality would have been different if they had started nabbing everyone who attended these funerals. They allowed this frenzy and made it "normal" to portray the image of a soft state. Apparently it has some fancy doctrinal name in anti-insurgency books where the state lets the insurgents believe that they own the streets, as a psy-ops way to dispel the narrative that the state has gobbled up their neighborhood. This only works with decent people. It doesn't help with Muslims.

Probably because there isn’t one. Not in the near term anyways or even the medium term. Doesn’t matter which government is in power, there is nothing much that can be done in Kashmir. Use of force can keep levels of violence contained but that is all it is...containment. Talks are of no use either, the Hurriyat has very limited independent ability to do much, the Pakistanis want something which we won’t give.......end result, status quo.

There is no reason for us to get worked up. We can hold this situation as long as it takes for something to give. We need to focus only on containment and not be in a hurry to “solve”.
