This CRPF attack was inevitable

Thinking that ;The terrorists have lost 206 men last year
there was some complacency on our part

At least it was not a Big disaster like Uri and Nagrota

@Screambowl @COLDHEARTED AVIATOR @Bornubus

One Thing that is really worrying is that We have not been able to Fully secure our Camps and Convoys as these Random attacks prove

SO in case of an escalation the Sleeper cells in kashmir will come out all guns blazing

Rear Area Security is a Big challenge
I can tell you where I live. If Fidayeen (Suicide ) Jihadi want to eneter in the living quarters, trg area, CSD, mess etc they can easily enter, kill, take hostage or most probably easily disappear even though the Cantt is sealed off and has a strict security check to enter.

The answer is every time suicide attack happen target Pak Army positions at LoC and Rangers at Int Border. Earlier we had the Justification too because all the Fidayeen were Paki now for the first time they have successfully recruited a local Fidayeen so that India can't blame them like earlier for ex - Pathankot, Dinanagar, 26/11 etc

A home ministry official said the decision to continue the declaration of Nagaland as “disturbed area” has been taken as killings, loot and extortion have been going in various parts of the state which necessitated the action for the convenience of the security forces operating there.

The entire Nagaland has been declared as “disturbed area” for six more months, till June- end, under the controversial AFSPA, which empowers security forces to conduct operations anywhere and arrest anyone without any prior notice.

In a gazette notification, the Union Home Ministry said it is of the opinion that the area comprising the whole of Nagaland is in such a “disturbed and dangerous condition” that use of armed forces in aid of the civil power is necessary.

“Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (No. 28 of 1958), the central government hereby declares that whole of the said State to be a ‘disturbed area’ for a period of six months with effect from December 30, 2017 for the purpose of that Act,” the notification said.

A home ministry official said the decision to continue the declaration of Nagaland as “disturbed area” has been taken as killings, loot and extortion have been going in various parts of the state which necessitated the action for the convenience of the security forces operating there.

There have been demands from various organisations in the Northeast as well as in Jammu and Kashmir for repealing the controversial Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), which, they say, gives “sweeping powers” to security forces.

The AFSPA has been in force in Nagaland for several decades. It has not been withdrawn even after a framework agreement was signed on August 3, 2015 by Naga insurgent group NSCN-IM general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah and the government’s interlocutor R N Ravi in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The framework agreement came after over 80 rounds of negotiations spanning 18 years with the first breakthrough in 1997 when the ceasefire agreement was sealed after decades of insurgency in Nagaland.

Officials say the decline could be due to attrition of cadres or Maoists' strategy to lie low

For the first time in more than a decade, in 2017 the incidents in left-wing extremism (LWE) affected States remained below the 1,000 mark.

A senior official of the Union Home Ministry attributed the decline to “attrition of various level cadres of Maoists” and the other to the possibility of Maoists “deliberately lying low.”

According to Home Ministry data, 851 incidents were reported till December 15 in 2017, compared to 1016 incidents during the corresponding period last year. The total number of incidents in 2016 was 1048.

The violent incidents in the 10 LWE-affected States have always been above the 1,000 mark, with 2,258 the maximum number of incidents reported in 2009.

‘Not attracting recruits’

K. Vijay Kumar, Senior Security Adviser, MHA said, “First of all, youths are no more enamoured to join the Maoists which has led to the attrition in cadres at all levels. They are not getting even 50% of the recruits they got earlier. The other reason could be strategic: to lie low.”

Mr. Kumar said several instances of top Maoist leadership siphoning off money and running extortion rackets has also attributed to their decline.

“Nothing happened in a year’s time. In 2004 when all Maoist organisations merged, for two years they planned many attacks. By 2010, maximum attrition took place and from there on there has been a steady decline,” said Mr. Kumar.

The Border Security Force (BSF) deployed for anti-Maoist operations apart from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) established base at four new locations .

‘Leaders ailing’

A senior Home Ministry official said the top Maoist leadership was ageing and many suffered from ailments.

The recruitments were also at an all-time low as security forces had penetrated many territories in the past decade. The earlier reports the elusive head of the banned Maoist making way for his second-in-command and chief of the Central Military Commission (CMC) Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavraj were not found to be correct.

Update on weapons mods used by CT/CI personnel.

During the Pulwama encounter recently, the Rashtriya Rifles soldiers were seen carrying ak with some interesting mods. One of the soldier was seen carrying an ak with one side of the magazine cover taken off.

This was done to add some transparency to an otherwise opaque magazine made up of metal .Through this ,the whole internal mechanism of the magazine and the number of rounds in it, are visible from outside. This was deliberately done to have an idea of the number of rounds left in the magazine of the rifle. However, this does not seem to have been done by the Rashtriya Rifles, as only one soldier was seen with it,further army would have never allowed such type of mod.As, it is an easy way to get all the debris and dust in the rifle magazine ,making it vulnerable to jam and malfunctioning. To be honest, more than a useful mod ,it is a foolish destruction of a magazine.Such type of mod on an ak magazine have been observed among the Kashmiri terrorists. This particular rifle magazine most probably belonged to a dead terrorist ,which had been confiscated by the Army and now you see the magazine being used here by this particular soldier. However ,it is not a good idea to carry such mod on your ak magazine for combat.
The mag actually has a transparent plastic cover....

However, this mod was prone to stoppages due to the magazine design itself because of the incorrect molding of the lips. I'm sure they must have corrected the defect by now.

If Bipin Rawat Sir is even half the guy Manekashaw was then Pakistan's days are numbered
What are you even saying? Why compare him with Sir Manekshaw who tasted war when he was a COAS. I am sure if Indo-Pakistan breaks out before the end of his tenure, he will prove his mettle.

My close friends say you could find him smiling outside, but deep down, he's a really angry man who doesn't takes our jawans' martyr for granted.
