I don't see a CRN-91 gun on these ships. Atleast wiki says it should have them.

L&T Wins $228 Million Contract For Indian Offshore Patrol Vessels

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has won $ 228 million contract from the Indian Ministry of Defence to construct seven Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). The contract is part of the government's initiative to strengthen India's coastal security, the company announced in its press release on Tuesday. OPVs under the project are long range surface ships, capable of operation in maritime zones of India, including island territories with helicopter operational capabilities. Their roles include coastal and offshore patrolling, policing maritime zones of India, control and surveillance, anti- smuggling and anti-piracy with limited wartime roles. In keeping with Government's 'Make in India' focus, complete design and engineering of OPVs is planned to be undertaken in- house at L&T's Warship Design Centre. The first OPV under the project is scheduled to be delivered within 36 months from signing of the contract. Subsequent OPVs shall be delivered at six months interval. L&T is already executing MoD contracts for design and construction of 54 fast Interceptor Boats (IBs) for the Indian Coast Guard. 25 IBs have already been delivered so far to ICG with the latest boat having been delivered 23 months ahead of schedule. L&T is targeting to complete delivery of all boats far ahead of schedule. With contracts for 54 IBs and 7 OPVs, L&T is positioned as the largest supplier of patrol vessels to the Indian Coast Guard.

Different class boats. I think this is the reason.
Well, outwardly the boats look identical.

The BEL EO pod (Shikari?) is also missing, probably along with internal wiring and terminals etc.

I am creating this thread to record and discuss various operations and incidents involving tactical action by Indian Navy, ICG or other security force that occur from time to time.

Examples:

- Drug busts at sea
- Fisheries protection
- Incidents on sea related to security
- Exercises like Sagar Kavach

Mumbai: The Indian Navy on Monday admitted to "accidentally" shooting a fisherman in a boat in the Arabian Sea, around 80 km off Mumbai, adding that an inquiry was ordered into the incident. An Indian Navy officer said the fisherman had strayed close to an offshore oil rig, a high-security zone.

The incident occurred late Sunday evening when an Immediate Support Vessel was on a coastal security patrol in the high-security and prohibited Offshore Development Area (ODA) of Bombay High, around 80 km off Mumbai. The vessel observed a fishing boat was anchored close to an oil platform and it was warned to move out from trespassing into the restricted area. "Despite repeated warnings, the boat refused to move out of the prohibited area, that is when the warning shots were fired into the water... One round deflected on hitting the water and accidentally hit a fisherman in the boat," the Indian Navy said.

He was immediately evacuated by a helicopter and rushed to an onshore hospital for treatment. His condition is reported stable. The victim's family was informed and the incident has been reported to the Joint Operations Centre which has now ordered an inquiry into the matter. "The incident was immediately reported to the Joint Operations Centre which is manned round the clock and where all authorities concerned with coastal security are present," the Indian Navy officer said.

"ODA is a very high security zone and is a no go area for normal shipping/ fishing traffic. The area is kept under vigil 24x7 by Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard and other relevant agencies," he added. "It has oil rigs which are involved in drilling and extraction of crude oil which is then conveyed ashore by a maze of underground pipelines.... The mariners are always advised to remain clear of these areas as a general practice," the officer said.

NEW DELHI: Coast Guard DIG B K Loshali, who had triggered a major controversy saying that he had ordered a suspicious Pakistani boat to be blown up off Gujarat, is facing dismissal from service.

According to a top Coast Guard official, Loshali will stand trial at the Coast Guard Court now that a Board of Inquiry(BoI) has indicted him for his remark.

....

The BoI was completed after two extensions as it had to record the statements of several people. All Coast Guard officers and sailors and the Larson & Toubro employees, who were present at the event when the DIG made his remarks, were examined as part of the inquiry. Loshali was the chief guest at the event in Surat. Then the Coast Guard Chief of Staff (NorthWest), he was transferred to the force’s Gandhinagar regional headquarters, a day after he made the comment.

WTF ...

Indian Fishermen across the country are proving to be a security nuisance - be it in Gujarat, Palk Bay or Bombay. They place themselves into situations where they are liable to get shot, killed, or taken prisoner. And then cry hoarse on the gross injustices piled on to them.

This is unfair to the security personnel who are prevented from doing their jobs. If the fisherman turned out to be an explosive laden boat taking down an oil rig - who would be blamed for the security lapse?

Mumbai: Mumbai Police on Thursday registered an attempt to murder case under IPC Section 307 after a fisherman was shot at by an Indian Navy Vessel.

The incident took place in May when a fisherman was injured after he was shot at by an Immediate Support Vessel of Indian Navy which was on a coastal security patrol in the offshore development area at the Bombay High.

The fishermen association has alleged that the Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) was responsible for the incident.

However, Navy said that while providing protection to the oil rig, they had spotted a fishing boat and despite repeated warnings the boat did not move out of the prohibited area.

PRO, Indian Navy, Captain DK Sharma said, “The Navy is very much aware of it, we are doing a BOI (Board of Inquiry), all the facts will come out soon. We immediately provided first aid, rescued the man by helicopter & took him to hospital. We did open fire as warning shot, one of bullets ricocheted and hit the fisherman, it wasn't intentional.”

“They were advised to pick up their nets and leave, all boats did follow our instructions except for one boat. Incident happened in Bombay High area on 17th, few fishermen came in ODA area which is not supposed to be used by mariners,” he added.

I am assuming you haven't spent time with them. Fishermen are risk takers by nature and by profession, it gets into their DNA. It's rare for them to live beyond 50 for a reason.

Sure. But that they are very much responsible for their actions, and the consequences.

Another sea intercept notched up...

http://www.dnaindia.com/india/repor...-smuggled-cigarettes-worth-rs-1-crore-2098939

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Thursday intercepted a dhow in the Gulf of Kutchoff Gujarat coast with nine persons on board and seized a stock of foreigncigarettes worth Rs one crore.

All those onboard the dhow, named MSV Safina Al Meraj, were Indian nationals. The dhow was taken to Salaya harbour in Jamnagar district, said inspector general Kuldip Singh Sheoran, commander Coast Guard Region (North-West).

The ICG also recovered two Thuraya sets (satellite phones).

"On searching the vessel, the ICG personnel found two cartons of 'Davidoff', each carton containing ten thousand cigarettes, and 50 cartons of Gudang Gadam, which contain 14,400 cigarettes each," said Sheoran.

The search of the vessel was still on with officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and other agencies taking part.

According to a statement from Defence PRO, intelligence about a suspicious vessel which had sailed from Sharjah was received on June 18, following which the ICG boat 'Sangram' intercepted it on Thursday, despite the rough seas.

The dhow was damaged and water was leaking inside, so it was escorted to Salaya harbour.
