We are nowhere and will be nowhere even 20 years down the line w.r.t. beautiful modern city architecture compared to the world.

Egypt has progressed much better on their cities...Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand; not to mention most of the rich arab countries are building groud-up new cities which will be the new hubs of human activity in this century.

Indian cities are the ugliest in the world, nobody cares about aesthetics here. Even the new buildings are fucking trash compared to Hong-Kong in the 1990s.

Behenchodh when will we start and when would be able to live in such cities? I don't want to hear any retarded 'old city ko new banayega' bullshit! Its not possible with our piece of shit planning and low ambition expansion of exisiting cities + our population is borderline anarchic and will protest at any major planning and remodeling.

Fuck this country; I'll emigrate someday to somewhere in SEA.

P.S. saare corrupt or incompetent IAS officers aur unki families par bhot badi lanat. Kutte ki maut maro BC.

Because we have clause where we have to provide 5-10% of land to existing village folks from where land has been acquired. They build up new slum type villages inside the new cities.
We do try building new cities with modern architecture but katchi colonies springs up quickly and given protection by the MLAs and MPs as they provide good vote bank to them.

There are multiple reasons for it, let's not pretend that even if there was no issue of land acquisition that our planning is top notch.

India will still be third world even after 20 years because the rest of the third world cities will be so much better than us already.

We'll be trying to compete with old American and European cities then who won't have money to re invent but who knows even they might make some good changes.

Indians will continue to manage within our own failed cities while we send our bureaucracy to training abroad and then having two vacations a year to foreign capitals on top of it.

Itna blackpiilling karne se pehle try and learn the truth behind this "beautiful modern city" that you are tom-tomming...

I understand that our cities are not well planned and have problems, but try to use actually good examples of urban planning, instead of just getting fooled by the eye candy.

EDIT: Credit where its due, with the rollout of metros and now RRTS, public transportation in our cities would be quite modern and superior to many other cities and will also help mitigate some of the problems our cities face. We won't have to endlessly expand roads anymore.

I know this YouTube creator, he made a video on Dubai also. Doesn't change the fact that your neighbour's sons and daughters go to Dubai for honeymoon and the lifestyle is much better than any city in India.

You would rather have us play in mud with the slum people who create a hub of crime and steal utilities. I don't want to live in your version of successful planned cities. Poor people are always bitching, who contributes to the economy though and who is a burden?

I hate these socialist handouts to an extreme extend and ignoring our aspirations as a superpower 2020. People will continue to immigrate as Modi makes "smart cities" in the middle of Gujrat. It will fail obviously because #1 who the fuck wants to live with gujjus all of a sudden who have no concept of nightlife and decent food. It's like asking a hair dresser to make a cake.

Is the food of Gujaratis that bad? Never had it. Coming to nightlife, only metropolitan cities have it in India. Most of the other cities do not have it. The problem is with the police not have enough manpower to manage both during night and day.

Way to shift goalposts dude. We were talking about urban planning or tourist destinations? The rest of what you wrote is strawman arguments. I never said live in slums and mud. My only problem with your tirade is you are not talking about urban planning in detail but giving stupid cities like Egypt's new capital as examples of "how Indian cities should be".

Exactly, it is horrible. They put sugar in everything and then sleep at 8 pm like Jains.

Anyway, coming to the topic. Is it a crime to have a concave within India that has the best we have to offer? Like LA, Dubai or Macau?

It will generate jobs and create revenue for the state too. Low tax special economic zones are not a novelty in India but they have to design a comprehensive city-state which is self-contained and has a separate jurisdiction.

I didn't shift goalposts. Dubai is also a failed city according to you but I know enough about it since many of my friends and family have visited. Best city to model is Tokyo but it's too large a project for our failure 50-something job secure bureaucrats to create or even sign-off now so I have already given up hope.

EDIT: Also there is not even an attempt made, I didn't say copy paste Egypt's version anywhere. How will India reach $5 trillion GDP economy but have not a city worth looking at?

You do know cities generate large % revenue for a country right? It takes decades to plan and build one. As Indian per capita increases and cost of living becomes prohibitive in the western world, people will move to Dubai's of the world, not Mumbai or Bangalore which are failures in their own right. What is your plan to stop that brain drain? Singapore here I come. You have any idea who much wealth Indians hold in Singapore? What if they lived in an Indian city and lived and spent their money there? Of course they'll have to earn that money there too so we need infra and a standard of living to match their aspiration.

How about we discuss the basics of urban planning on this thread, and how to adapt it to Indian cities? Isn't that the purpose of this thread? This back and forth is taking us nowhere. Although doesn't look like anyone is interested in discussing anything apart from "aesthetics" in this thread, since this thread started. Point is, asethetics is secondary to good urban planning.

We need new cities from scratch which will be cheaper and faster to build than changing old cities.

Why don't you give any ideas or are you here to just criticize posts made by others?

One good idea for our cities would be to have Central Business Districts where you can provide District Cooling Systems (DCS), that lower the energy requirements, saving money and the environment. This has first been implemented in GIFT city. Should also be implemented in the new City being planned as a major deep water port and transshipment hub on Great Nicobar island.
This presentation details the GIFT city experience: https://www.asiacleanenergyforum.or.../ACEF-2021-Workshop-DCS-PPT_Rajeev-Sharma.pdf

One observation is that DCS plant is only practical when cooling requirements are between 40,000 to 50,000 tons. That is per plant. In GIFT city, for a floor space of 62 million sq.ft., the cooling requirement is 240,000 tons. So ideally there should be 5 DCS plants there.
If we plan to do it in Great Nicobar, it will help reduce the planned electricity consumption of the city for cooling by a massive 50% (going by GIFT experience). All these things need to be a part of the master plan right now. I don't think it'll be feasible to add it later.

Aircon is a necessity and will remain so.

#1 The location of a city goes a long way in deciding the logistics cost and meeting the energy requirements
#2 Grid-like Metro system to eliminate need of cars and have walkable districts connected
#3 Circular cities with each block being self-sufficient and having all amenities within 1-Km
#4 Industry specific zones and housing societies build around carbon-zero industry 4.0
#5 Centralized water and waste management system
#6 Cargo logistics planned for small and medium size packages to eliminate need for private vendors and their fleet of vehicles. This would probably the more complex aspirational need but can support grocery and E-commerce delivery

Dint keep track if it as it was on incognito

But here is what I found after reverse search.

Ya'll Nibbiars The web desk of the IndiaToday is a fool and lazy.

Ya'll Nibbiars and @Bhumihar Nibba that palava city gets drowned in water every monsoon as it's a privately planned city with no pump stations or drainage system for the floods. Aur dikhawa pe math jas. And the lodha builder gets away with this as is the BJP chief of the Mumbais.
