India developing surface to air missile

NEW DELHI: Indian is developing a medium-range surface-to-air missile (MR-SAM) in collaboration with Israel for protecting its important cities
and installations from enemy aircraft.

"We are jointly developing a 70-km range MR-SAM in partnership with Israeli companies," Senior DRDO scientist Prahlada told reporters on the sidelines of a DRDO function here.

"We may take around 12 years but the requirement of the services is that they want it (MR-SAM) fast. The only way to make it four to five years is to partner with a country which has already developed some of the hardware. If they have have got some hardware and we have got some knowledge, we can do it in 4-5 years," Prahlada said.

He added that the DRDO has already developed air defence systems such as the Trishul and the Akash.

He said the Akash did not fit the bill for the MR-SAM as its range was only 30 km and the services wanted a missile system with a range of 70 km.

He said MR-SAM systems can be deployed for the security of cities such as Delhi and also for securing nuclear installations across the country.
May this can play a great part in air defence ,ensure our security

Another important thing to note - Canisterisation of AAD. Earlier it was this:

same hai bhai they just covered it up.......... may be if they would have preserve missiles for long life through hermetically sealed atmosphere, then that would have been achievement, that too like this, at border.

this way missile could be launched at short notice @Chinmoy what you said is going to be true.

Made in India interceptor missile shoots down one from multiple simulated targets

The supersonic ballistic interceptor missile dubbed as Advance Air Defence (AAD) was fight tested from Abdul Kalam Island, a part of Integrated Test Range (ITR) off Odisha coast at about 11.25 am.

BHUBANESWAR: In a major breakthrough for Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), made in India interceptor missile capable of killing incoming enemy missiles in endo atmospheric region at low altitude shot down a target from multiple simulated targets.

For the first time the missile was fired against multiple targets simulated electronically by the mission team comprising officials from the Indian Army. The missile attacked one after choosing it from a bunch of targets.

The supersonic ballistic interceptor missile dubbed as Advance Air Defence (AAD) was fight tested from Abdul Kalam Island, a part of Integrated Test Range (ITR) off Odisha coast at about 11.25 am.

Defence sources said a few minutes after the electronic targets were simulated, the tracking systems selected one from a number of targets and subsequently provided command to launch the interceptor missile, which was auto-fired fired from a hermetically sealed canister.

A defence official said the missile has demonstrated its killing capability paving the way for its early induction.

“Several tests of the missile conducted earlier were against single target. But this one was against multiple targets for the first time. It was an excellent mission accomplished,” he informed.

Long range radar and multi-function fire control radar located far away successfully detected the missile from take-off and tracked it through its entire path. The total trajectory of the incoming missile was continuously estimated by the guidance computer and subsequently the AAD missile was launched at an appropriate time to counter and kill the target missile.

The Fibre Optic Gyro (FOG) based INS in interceptor, on-board computers, guidance systems, actuation systems and the critical Radio Frequency (RF) seekers used for the terminal phase have also performed excellently.

Indigenously developed by DRDO, the AAD interceptor is a single-stage missile powered by solid propellants. It is 7.5 metres tall and weighs around 1.2 tonnes. It had a diameter of less than 0.5 metre.

The DRDO has developed both high-altitude and low-altitude anti-ballistic missiles.

The test assumed significance as India plans to deploy a two-tiered Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) system to protect its important cities and vital installations from enemy attack.

While the first phase seeks to destroy incoming enemy missiles in exo-atmospheric region (outside the atmosphere), the second phase envisages killing enemy missiles of more than 2,000 km range in endo-atmospheric (inside the atmosphere) region.

LOL...dear, aroud 6 years ago...

pay a little more attention to your own nation's project, young indians, spend more time on the development of USA BMD tech ,and then you will be able to understand what the so called ' cutting edge' means...

If we have so much advance BM beating systems then what's stopping us to carry out more strikes in POK or capturing POK. Is it the danger of escalation to nuclear threshold?
It is that Pakistan is backed by oil suppliers. So, we have to balance between the benefits of oil supply by tolerating little bit of Pakistani nuisance versus the benefits of getting peace by destroying Pakistan and getting oil supply cut off. Since oil is limited, it is better to wait for oil to exhaust before adventurism

Today's launch has been a milestone in Indian BMD launch. The launcher has been canisterised with 6 missile per launcher. Each missile weighs 1.2ons. So, total weight of launcher is likely in the range of 15-20 tons.

Here is today's launch from canister:

So you people want to say that we are helpless? Wouldn't we be more helpless if Pakistan get's ABM? What would be our counter to that?
We are capable of defeating and destroying Pakistan completely today as well as tomorrow. We seek the best path for the next 100-200 years rather than immediate solution.
Acquiring imported items will only help in minimum deterrence, not actual capability. So, Pakistan is not going to get anything meaningful indigenously for next 10 years at least.

So, India will only grow stronger while Pakistan will stagnate.
