As part of the central government's target to blend petrol with ethanol up to 20 percent 2023, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on June 28 issued a draft notification to facilitate manufacture of automobiles designed to run on petrol blended with ethanol to the extent of 12 percent and 15 percent.

The government hopes that higher blending of ethanol would reduce the oil import bill by $4 billion a year, reduce pollution and support sugarcane farmers. To meet the government's target of 20 percent blending of gasoline, ethanol storage capacity of sugar companies needs to expand to three times the current level of about 300 crore litres. The 10 billion liters of ethanol would be required each year to meet the 20 percent ethanol-blended fuel standard by 2025, India’s Oil Secretary Tarun Kapoor said this month.

The that investment of Rs 41,000 crore is expected to meet the requirement.
This presents an opportunity for sugar companies that have historically struggled with a surplus production of sugar as well as outstanding cane dues from states. The Ethanol is a kind of alcohol of more than 99 percent purity, which can be blended with petrol and is a by-product of sugar mills, although it can also be produced from grains or cane juice. The Mills typically crush cane with a total fermentable sugars (TFS) content of about 14 percent, and every 100 kg of TFS yields 60 litres of ethanol. This presents an opportunity for sugar companies that have historically struggled with a surplus production of sugar as well as outstanding cane dues from states. Thus, from one tonne of cane, mills can produce 115 kg of sugar and 45 kg of molasses that gives 10.8 litres of ethanol.

Equity analysts say the sugar sector is poised to benefit from the government's push for higher ethanol blending in.The government's ethanol policy is adding good balance to the sugar companies and ethanol is something that can turn out to be very profitable. Sugar manufacturers have already started investing to increase their ethanol storage capacity. Earlier this month Shree Renuka Sugars announced that it will invest Rs 450 crore to expand its ethanol capacity.

The Oil marketing companies would also need to set up ethanol distillation facilities and need to provide timelines for making blended fuel available across the country. The blending percentage of ethanol with petrol has gone up from 1.53 percent in 2013-14 to 8.5 percent in 2020-21. The National Biofuel Policy 2018 envisages an indicative target of 20 percent blending of ethanol in petrol and 5 percent blending of biodiesel in diesel by 2030. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in December approved an Rs 8,460 crore modified scheme for extending interest subvention for those setting up standalone ethanol distilleries. According to a report by the Independent Commodity Intelligence Service, Hindustan Petroleum Corp and GAIL India Ltd plan to build grain-based refineries to help boost India’s ethanol output by 2025. According to the report, HPCL will invest Rs 4 billion on a 125,000 litre/day grain-based ethanol plant in Himachal Pradesh and GAIL is planning a 500,000 litres/day capacity grain-based ethanol plant.

TVS and Bajaj have already developed two-wheelers to run exclusively on ethanol, but many companies still produce two-wheelers and passenger vehicles that are designed optimally for 5 percent ethanol blend with petrol. The government expects that as its Ethanol Blended Petrol Program rolls out, automobile companies would need to supply vehicles with rubberised parts, plastic components and elastomers compatible with 20 percent ethanol blend with petrol. NITI Aayog in its research paper titled 'Roadmap for Ethanol Blending in India 2020-25' said that industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers had guaranteed that automobile companies would gear up to supply compatible vehicles in line with the roadmap. NITI Aayog also said all the components required to make engines compatible with 20 percent ethanol-blended petrol can be made available in India and that no significant change in the assembly line is expecte.

Mahindra’s Pininfarina Teorema Is A Concept For The Future

Pininfarina’s newest concept – Teorema, come from the future, or at least it gives a hint of what the future of automobiles is
Pininfarina is an Italian design house currently owned by the Indian UV giant – Mahindra. The Pininfarina is known for producing some of the most radical concepts and production cars. Now, the design house has revealed a new concept – Teorema, which is one of the most outlandish concept cars to come from the Italian coachbuilder.
The radicalism in the Teorema lies in a lot of aspects. Talking of its design, it hardly looks like a car from most angles. The first glance confirms that it belongs to the future. The silhouette is very unique, and it has a glimpse of a shooting brake-style roof in it. Also, the window line tapers down towards the rear end.
Pininfarina has confirmed, the Teorema has been designed using VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality) technology. Measuring at 5,400 mm in overall length, the Teorema is as long as the newly-launched Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. The height is 1,400 mm, which is quite low. This has been done to keep the Teorema aerodynamically efficient. Moreover, it has been tunnel tested to ensure a low aerodynamic drag coefficient.
The interior of the Teorema is futuristic too. It misses out on a steering wheel and gets seating for five occupants in a 1+2+2 fashion. The interior of this EV is finished in a dark shade, and the cockpit shouts out loud that it is an autonomous vehicle. However, it is showcased as a demonstrator concept, and would not be hitting the production lines ever.
Pininfarina Teorema Concept Seats

The specifications of the electric powertrain aren’t revealed yet, but the Teorema gets two modes, namely Rest and Drive. Underpinning the Teorema is a rolling chassis from Benteler. Also, Continental was involved in the R&D of the Teorema. And the seats of this super EV come from Poltrona Frau.

They should plan on to spread Ethanol plants and pumps evenly across India.
For CNG also they have made Gujrat, Maharashtra and Delhi NCR the hub of CNG pumps and rest of Indian has Bhagwan Bharose availability of CNG.

Don't know why they are taking so long for this launch . By the time hyundai may launch its new XA1 compact UV .. This one is longest testing model of TAMO for last two years .
Tata is having multiple projects running simultaneously.
They are prioritizing CNG versions of Teago, Nexon and few other models. CNG in current market makes much more sense.
CNG cars from Maruti and Hyundai are having bumper sales. More than 90% of new WagonR I see in NCR are all CNG version. same case with Hyundai Aura and Santro.

has anything ever come for Indian market from this Mahindra acquisition?
Not yet. It's automotive production lines had shut in 2010. New concepts have later started surfacing though, if they get funded by Mahindra for production.

all major auto companies have their own test tracks of a similar nature, they are highly secretive about their tracks. only thing they may not have is a track which allows vehicles to go at 300 kmph(which natrax has).

In 2005 itself I know of a company which had a track of their own in Tamil Nadu , they were a auto ancillary major supplier at that time.

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) recently conducted a Dealer Satisfaction Study and has now released its report. And its dealer's survey not the customer's.

Ya'll Nibbiars suprise is that Hyundai from being in the top three now slide to the bottom says something about the dealers displeace. And Tata motors from the bottom to the above Suzuki, Honda, Mahindra and Hyundai. The MG satisfaction is die to the higher margin and nothing else the story is pretty bad. The Kia and Toyota is no suprise.

Mahindra bolero and Honda city v tech was launched around the same time in india, happened to go to both showrooms on same day on the same street .

The stark contrast in customer service still makes me laugh. Mahindra showroom didn’t even have customer service, it was as if they were selling a tractor to a farmer and language spoken was Tamil . Honda show room customer service guys has a uniform neatly tucked with a tie , language spoken was English.

Ya'll Nibbiars when went to Hyundai showroom no one even cared and after waiting for 30 minutes walked out. Jaroorat nahi hai unko customer ki. And when walked in Honda or Tata Motors showroom within a second the salesman was there.
