Bhai log, isn't the space too congested for men with guns and armour? Getting in and out would take some time no?
Not really, u only get so much space frm such seating position. U.S Stryker has different seating position and bit wider so its much easier fr them to get in and out.

I would say WHAP has OK space. Much better than BMP-2 but thts an IFV so no comparison.

US striker seating isn't designed for mine explosion under the vehicle. Where as WHAP has a roof mounted seating, which offers a significant protection..

The reason why they face outwards instead of inwards is that, they can technically fire through the firing ports, while seating inside the vehicle. Though I'm not sure how practical it might be within that confined position.

US clears decks for Stryker armoured personnel carrier to be made in India
If the US government goes through with the ToT deal, it will allow India to manufacture the eight-wheeled armoured fighting vehicle jointly produced by Canada and the United States (US)

Washington:
The United States (US) government may allow the Transfer of Technology (ToT) for the Stryker armoured personnel carrier (APC) to India.

If the US government goes through with the ToT deal, it will allow India to manufacture the eight-wheeled armoured fighting vehicle jointly produced by Canada and the United States (US).

It will also enable India to incorporate some of the technology of the Stryker APC into the armoured fighting vehicle being developed domestically for the Indian military.

Although it is not yet clear whether the Indian Army is willing to go for a domestically produced APC over imported ones, the deal for the Stryker armoured personnel carrier (APC) is expected to provide a boost to India’s defence manufacturing industry as part of the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.

The Striker Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) which can carry up to 9 soldiers and is armed with a machine gun or a 30 mm cannon, can be developed into a number of different configurations.

The Stryker has a weight of around 16.5 tonnes, while the MGS version of the APC – which is armed with a 105 mm M1128 gun – weighs around 19 tonnes.

Apart from being used in a direct combat role, the Stryker APC can also be adapted to serve as a command vehicle or as a platform for several weapon systems such as the 120 mm mortar.

They have cleared but do we have cleared to take this production line in India.

Modi’s Defence Diplomacy: A New Chapter in Indo-US Ties
In the run-up to Modi’s State Visit to the US on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, US business leaders are excited over prospects of deeper Indo-US technological convergence in such sectors as semiconductors, cyber security, telecom, 5G and 6G, and defence.

On Tuesday, June 13, 2023, addressing a gathering of top American corporate leadership at the annual India Ideas Summit ahead of Modi’s visit, US-India Business Council (USIBC) president Atul Keshap said American companies support India’s ambitions and align with its national interests. The summit was the largest gathering of Indian and US CEOs, before the State Visit. He said the plan was to raise the quantum of trade as rapidly as possible to USD 500 billion.

I’d like to see more defence deals. Defence deals are really important for deterrence. When we host Indus X next week, we’re gonna try to see how that startup incubator of ideas and convergence can have even more impact on the US-India relations,” Keshap said.

Modi, during his State Visit, will discuss pending defence deals with US officials. India and the US are discussing ways to co-produce defence equipment. This would help India become self-sufficient in defence production, which is one of its long-term goals. As the two countries deepen their defence cooperation, these agreements and co-production initiatives could strengthen their bilateral ties and contribute to regional security and stability.

India has hiked its spending on military purchases in recent years. It is now one of the world’s top spenders on defence. It is also working to develop its own indigenous weapons and defence systems. India and the US could discuss the following defence deals:

The MQ-9B Predator Drones Deal
The US wants to finalize the deal to sell MQ-9B Predator drones to India during Modi’s Wasjington visit. The Indian armed forces are in talks with the US to buy these MQ-9B Predator drones. The number of drones needed is still being decided. The Indian Navy had initially asked for 30 drones. But, last year, the Navy Chief hinted that the number might need to be reduced.

Army & Navy’s Interest in Drones
The Indian Navy leased two MQ-9B Sea Guardian drones from General Atomics in 2020 after the Galwan Valley clashes. The lease has been extended and the drones are now being used for land and maritime surveillance operations in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). They have also operated alongside the P-8 aircraft from Boeing.

The Indian Navy and the US are working together to monitor the growing presence of Chinese boats in the Indian Ocean Region. The US has agreed to sell India 30 MQ-9B Sea Guardian drones for $ 3 billion and will be through Foreign Military Sales (FMS).

India needs to be able to monitor its vast coastline and expanding maritime interests. The MQ-9 Predator drones can help in this by providing maritime surveillance, detecting illegal activities and supporting maritime security operations. By acquiring these drones, India can improve its defence capabilities, intelligence gathering and situational awareness.

Upgrading M-777 Light Howitzer Guns
The Indian Army already uses these guns and the US has proposed an upgrade that will significantly increase their range. This will give the army greater firepower and flexibility on the battlefield.

Producing GE-F414 Fighter Jet Engines
India is planning to produce GE-F414 fighter jet engines under license. This will help India produce its own engines for the Tejas Mk2 and future Indian Navy warships. This will help India become more self-reliant in defence manufacturing.

Stryker Armoured Personnel Carrier
India and the United States are exploring the possibility of jointly producing the Stryker armoured personnel carrier. This would replace the Russian BMP-2s currently used by the Indian Army. The collaboration would benefit both countries by meeting India’s defence needs and promoting local manufacturing and technology transfer.

More F/A-18 Super Hornet Fighter Jets
The Indian Navy is considering buying F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jets for its indigenous aircraft-carrier, he INS Vikrant. However, India may prefer the French Rafale fighters due to compatibility issues. Modi will be visiting France in July and the Rafale fighter jets issue is on the agenda for talks during his visit.

The above deals have been discussed before and either a deal may be reached during the visit, or the talks could be continued when the US President visits India in September.

War in Ukraine has shown that we'll need tens of thousands of IFVs & APCs basd on modular platforms to support an armored offensive. WHAP can be our own Stryker platform .
U fool gernails think way advance than u can

Quite the opposite IMO.. They're losing MRAPs everywhere, mostly to artillery & IEDs. In our own Red-corridor paramilitary troops avoid using MVPs but prefer motorbikes. Stryker is also disliked by a lot of US troops I've come across online.

Plus we can't afford 10s of 1000s of IFVs.

I suppose what we can use is a truck-turned-APC based on soviet "artillery tractor" concept, essentially a tracked-truck whose drive train power a sprocket instead of a complex 8×8 wheel mechanism. We majorly use thousands of lorries to transport troops but they're all soft-skinned (we ourselves suffered from shelling of trucks in Kargil war). Turned into an armored bus with just enough STANAG levels to protect from nearby shell explosions, a single vehicle can transport 2dozen troops, unlike only 10-odd in regular APCs. Just a battle-taxi to ferry troops to the front in great numbers & fuck off, heavy (if possible) remotely-operated IFVs can provide fire support. Russians recently found out than more troops are needed than armour.

All sorts of stuff can & have been mounted on them, from CIWS to SPH turrets.

US offers Stryker armoured vehicles and M777 gun upgrade to India
Indo-US defence cooperation is set to take an orbital jump after Prime Minister Narendra Modi meets US President Joe Biden on Thursday in Washington, with the Pentagon offering New Delhi the “Stryker” family of eight-wheeled armoured fighting vehicles and upgradation of M777 towed howitzers, apart from MQ-9 Reaper drones and the manufacturing of GE-F414 aircraft engines in India under 100% transfer of technology.

According to officials based in New Delhi and Washington, while the final decision on both Stryker and upgradation of M777 light weight howitzer depends on the conditions offered by the US, the defence equipment deals will be a significant component of the outcomes of the visit which will also see the signing of a deal with Micron for a $ 2.7 billion chip plant in India and a pact on quantum computing and artificial intelligence.

Produced by General Dynamics Land Systems, the Stryker is an eight into eight wheel drive V-hull armoured infantry vehicle for rapid combat response to any insurgency or war-like situation. Armed with a 30 mm cannon and 105 mm mobile gun, the Stryker was used to good effect by the US army and the NATO forces to counter the Taliban in Afghanistan. The US is offering the infantry combat vehicle to India and the Modi government is interested in the local manufacture of the armoured vehicle under the “Atmanirbhar Bharat" route.

According to the officials cited above, the US is also offering to upgrade 155 mm M777 howitzers with precision-guided long range ammunition to counter the artillery challenge on India’s northern borders. India already has 145 M777 howitzers, 120 of which were made by Mahindra Defence Systems in business arrangement with BAE systems. Given the light weight of the gun, the M777 can be transported by helicopters to mountain tops in case of any emergency in Jammu and Kashmir or Arunachal Pradesh.

While India and the US have an MoU over cyber security cooperation, the ties will get further cemented and the mutual convergence will be reflected in the joint statement issued at the end of PM Modi’s visit to the US.

The biggest deal is expected to be for the F-414 aircraft engines that will power indigenously manufactured fighters for the coming decade as well as “hunter-killer” Reaper drones, which will counter the challenge faced by India from China, which has armed drones and has also sold them to Pakistan.

Write up the mother of all spec sheets, spend a decade+ sayin no no no to the product, and when product is ready, give a limited order and look for imports, rinse and repeat until you have succeeded to destroy indigenous MIC and then bitch about the indigenous products not being up to mark.
