530mm at 60° will mean 1060mm at LOS... We're trying 300+mm at 60°, ie 600-700mm LOS penetration.
Tweet is taken from here ??

Appendix A: Appreciated Timelines & Milestonesfor for 125mm APFSDS Ammunition with minimum DoP of 530mm for TankT-72 &T-90at 60° angle of attack at 2000 mtr.

Appendix B Preliminary Service Qualitative Requirements(PSQR)for 125mmAPFSDSAmmunition with minimum DoP of 530mm for TankT-72 & T-90at 60° angle of attack at 2000 mtr.

Isnt it 530mm LOS penetration for armour at 60 deg ???

Read the objective part: "...development of prototype and further procurement of the 125mm APFSDS ammunition with minimum DoP of 530mm for tank T-72 & T-90."

That means 235mm at 60° tilted RHS plates.

@ArgonPrime what do you make of this. Either retarded sentences formation or we've reached lightsaber FSAPDS tech? 🙄 ...Or does keeping the plates sloped indeed affect the DoP?

:hmm: Round would go through 235 thickness at 60 angle of attack.

That is 535 mm path.

I think tweet wrong part was ' 530 mm RHAe' , its (RHae) , he didnt copy brackets.

There was a table with angle of attack (60 and 0) vs armour thickness posted long time back.
Dont remember the round type but at angle 0 penetration depth wouldnt double.

I am guessing at 0 angle of attack it wont go through 1060mm , it will be closer to 600-700 which is what earlier news was.

Retarded sentence formation to be the likely cause. 530mm DOP against RHA inclined at 60 degrees and that too, from a distance of 2km is simply a stupendously unrealistic objective to set, something which even the Americans haven't managed to achieve as yet.

And no, sloping does not affect modern KE penetrators in any meaningful capacity at all.

😀 nothing man , @VinodDX9 simply forgot 2 brackets .

:hmm: thats what data looks like , weird tho .
Well, sloping does increase LOS thickness of the armor which our T-90S are an extreme example of, so it helps in that regard but if you are expecting a modern KE rod to ricochet after impacting a canted surface, then it ain't gonna happen.

BDL gets Rs 3,000 cr contract for anti-tank Invar missiles
The BDL would be licence-producing these missiles at its facilities and the deliveries are expected to be completed in next five years.

New Delhi: In a major boost to Army's firepower, defence PSU Bharat Dynamics Limited has been given a Rs 3,000 crore contract by the defence ministry to produce Russian-origin Invar anti-tank guided missiles for the T-90 tanks of the force.

"Bharat Dynamic Limited, Hyderabad, signed a contract with Defence Ministry for supplying Invar anti-tank guided missiles to Indian Army here yesterday. The contract is valued about Rs 3,000 crore," defence ministry said today.

The deal was cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Security headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh earlier this month to help the Army in meeting its requirement for anti-tank missiles.

Former Army Chief Gen VK Singh had written a letter to the government last year highlighting the shortage of such missiles for the Army.

The BDL would be licence-producing these missiles at its facilities and the deliveries are expected to be completed in next five years.

The 5 km-range Invar is a laser beam rider anti-tank guided missile capable of being fired from T-90 tank. The missile can neutralise adversaries tanks fitted with Explosive Reactive Armour Protection, ministry officials said.

BDL has been manufacturing these missiles under technical collaboration with Rosoboronexport of Russia.

India purchases licence to manufacture Invar anti-tank missiles
Using the latest Russian technology, India is expected to manufacture a further 15,000 Invar missiles for the T-90 tank.
India will receive a manufacturing licence to produce 15,000 Russian Invar anti-tank missiles, which were designed for the T-90 tank. New Delhi previously purchased 10,000 of these missiles from Russia (produced directly by the manufacturer). The average cost will be around $2,000 per missile following acquisition of the manufacturing licence.
The characteristics of the Russian Invar 9M119M1 (Invar-M) are as follows:
· It is fired from a 125-mm smoothbore gun with increased accuracy
· It operates like a guided missile
· It weighs 17.2 kg and is 680 mm (26.7 inches) long
· It is fitted with a retractable stabiliser (across a 250 mm / 9 inch range), which helps with aiming (the missile is guided along a laser beam, controlled by the tank gunner).
· It has a maximum range of 5,000 m at a speed of 350 m/sec (the maximum speed for a flight of 14 seconds).

India signs $471 million contract for Russian Invar missiles

· It has a tandem warhead, with a dual application in combat: it first penetrates armour up to 900 mm (35 inches) thick, and it then ensures detonation of the warhead.

It has to be said that India has purchased the latest modification, along with a licence to manufacture a further 15,000 missiles.

In accordance with existing agreements, India is to receive around 1,400 T-90 tanks by the end of this decade. The T-90 first entered service in 1993, and India is the largest country to use this system. India is planning to form 21 tank battalions by 2020, all equipped with the T-90 tank.

In fact there are only 45 combat ready tanks in each battalion. The other 17 are either in reserve or intended for training purposes.

Army to upgrade missile system of T-90 battle tanks to enhance strike capability
As part of efforts to enhance its strike capability, the Army is now working on a project to add more teeth to its T-90 main battle tanks by arming them with a third generation missile system.

New Delhi: As part of efforts to enhance its strike capability, the Army is now working on a project to add more teeth to its T-90 main battle tanks by arming them with a third generation missile system.

Currently, the T-90 tanks are equipped with a laser guided INVAR missile system and the Army has decided to replace them with a third generation gun-launched missile, army sources said.

"As the design of the existing INVAR missile has been maximised, both in terms of range and depth of penetration (DoP), it is imperative to upgrade it to next generation missiles with enhanced capability," according to a document related to the project.

The Russian-origin T-90 tanks are mainstays of the Indian Army's offensive formations.

The sources said the third generation missile should achieve a DoP of 800-850 mm and will be capable of hitting targets up to a range of 8 KM in day as well as night.

The missiles, to be fired from the 125mm gun barrels of T-90 tanks, will be able to hit targets by taking a pre-flight programmed manoeuvres.

The missiles should be capable of firing against mobile as well as static targets, the sources said.

The Army is also working on a separate project to install a modular engine for the T-90 tanks so as to enhance their strike capability in high-altitude battle field.

The sources said the proposed modular engine for T-90 tanks is envisaged to have a variable power output of 1200-1500 HP to cater to high battle field agility.

Considering the evolving security scenario in the region, the government has taken a series of measures in the last few months to enhance strike capability of the Army.

Last month, the government had empowered the Army to directly procure critical ammunition and spares of major military platforms to maintain combat readiness for short duration "intense wars".

According to the decision, the vice chief of Army has been given the "full" financial powers to procure ammunition and spares for 10 types of weapons systems and equipment.

The government has also decided to speed up procurement of key weapons systems and platforms for the Army.

In a major decision, the defence ministry on Thursday approved procurement of six Apache helicopters along with weapons systems from American giant Boeing at a cost of Rs 4,168 crore for the Army which will be its first fleet of attack choppers.
