Well they shouldn't be... Bangladeshi upgraded Type-59G 'Durjoy' has a same gun as their MBT-2000 & our T-90.
Actually that kid got more turret & hull armour than both Ajeya & Al-Khalid. View attachment 59364View attachment 59366

There you go, light tanks done right... Everyone spends better than us!
And T 55 and Vijayanta in our arsenal are ending up in scrap yard or rusting in storage. 😂😂😂

I see the T-55s often, doing this or that in support role... I'm sure a decent number are available or mothballed. Upgrading about 100 with new engine & gun in the way Chinks did would be enough.

Hell, even NAG is better of mounted on its hull instead of a huge & unarmoured BMP-2 chasis, like the IT-1 tank destroyer.

I know we have them in storage. Same with Vijayanta. The point is they can be very well upgraded and there won't be any need for light tank drama.

It seems
@DRDO_India
Ajaya MK2 is doing more than sitting ideal, here a 'RARE' snap while going for trails with a regt of T-90 This T-72M1 has better ERA cover & mobility compare to T-90 bhishma.

Atleast looks like there's no penetration, but 100% mission kill... maybe completely beyond any repairs.

...lacks in mobility.
cost of upgrade is more than the cost of tank itself.
It's got a 1200hp engine & weighs 48.5t... Same T/W as Bhishma, but with best ERA layout in the world. Drastic overhaul of stock T-72.

45t M-84AS is similar standard as our latest T-72 upgrade pack (+laser sensors & soft-kill APS).

I've found out that this ERA layout may actually be inferior...
IA T-72M1 with ERA Mk.2 tiles.jpg

...than this.
CIAjeya.jpeg

Not only the latter has better distribution at the sides, in that brick format the ERA tiles individually can be thicker. The ERA Mark2 is made up of two layers of spaced ERA tiles, mostly counters heat.

But M-84AS1 uses the M19 ERA the its meant to cut APFSDS rods into pieces with blades made of shaped charge jets.

ERA mk 1 is mainly for HEAT.
ERA mk 2 can counter HEAT and APFSDS to a moderate extend. ERA mk 2 is our own analogue of Kontak 5.

No K-5 has single plate with more powerful explosive than ERA Mark1. If Mark2 has 2 layers of explosive tiles then its comparable to Relikt (bricks looks thick & massive)...

...if not then yes.

Oplot's ERA called Duplet at front blows out all top layers when a linear shot detonates the lower. 😅

So they came up with Nozh that uses streams instead of blowing up.

And that Serbian M19 uses that, enhances that & puts another (connected) layer at top to trigger detonation simultaneously... Far superior to anything we have.

Oh great!.. After AK-1 they just inducted VT-4 yesterday. 😐
And unlike the former which was a subsystems upgrade, this platform has much better armour, firepower & mobility than everything we got. Literally, every single spec is better than that of every single Indian tank... Even the weak flank armour of AK has been addressed.

And our corrupt sellouts are going to pay their daddy more royalty for antique T-90S. 😫

we will still able to maintain qualitative and quantitative edge over them.

I know it's meant to make us feel better, but not true... That is due to recoil of much higher chamber presure, the shell leaves by the time the tank starts rocking. (See slomo of any rifle firing).
Also possibly due to crew inexperience. Minimal rocking here;

Thankfully the Chink quality maybe (maybe not) shoddy, but specs are still superior to all Indian counterparts, from turret rotation speed to hard-kill APS. Maybe Arjun has better accuracy at higher speeds, but that's it.

We still maintain quantitative edge, but qualitative edge we've just lost twice in a month.

high chamber pressure means gun will require maintaince in short intervals.

Also means the claimed penetration of 700mm at 3km is probably true... and let's face it, they were never getting T-90, but VT-4 beat T-84 Oplot in 2 seperate tender competitions (Paki & Thai).

pakis are only getting 500mm one that 700mm is used by type 99.
